Newcastle United

Newcastle United FC, (the Magpies) is an English Premier League team, which plays out of St James’ Park in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Newcastle United was formed in 1892 when 2 local teams, Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End merged. In its early years, Newcastle United was successful winning three league titles in 1905, 1907 and 1909, and going to 5 an FA Cup finals in 7 years. The club was relegated in 1934, for the first time in history, despite defeating Liverpool and Everton. The club returned to the first division in 1948. Overall the club has won six FA Cups and four League Titles. Newcastle United legends Alan Shearer, Jackie Milburn and Malcolm Ian Macdonald helped the club achieve these honors. Sunderland FC is the club’s major rivalry. Currently Newcastle is being coached by Kevin Keegan, and English Premier League superstars Michael Owen and Shay Given are wearing the famous Magpie uniform.

Kevin Keegan, the savior for Newcastle United FC

Legendary football player and manager Kevin Keegan has a strong bond with the club Newcastle United. He began this relationship with the football organization during the 1980s as their lead striker, and helped save Newcastle United FC from relegation. Keegan went on to coach the Newcastle squad in 1992, when it was struggling and saved the football club from being relegated to division 2. The following year Newcastle got promoted to Division 1. In the 1995/1996 the club finished second place in the Premier League, only 4 point away from Manchester United . In 1997, Keegan got replaced by Kenny Dalglish, who got sacked after Newcastle finished 4th in the Premier League. Kevin Keegan came back to manage Newcastle United squad in 2008. He rekindled his popularity with the Newcastle fans, as 20,000 extra tickets were sold for the FA Cup 3rd Round replay against Stoke City within a couple of hours! Keegan continues to coach the squad till present day.
