Club History

Boca Juniors was established on Monday, April 3, 1905, when five young people in the neighborhood of La Boca (Esteban Baglietto, Alfredo Scarpatti, Santiago Sana'a and the brothers John and Teodoro Farenga) met at the Plaza Solis for the purpose of founding a soccer club. Without imagining it, this group of Italian immigrants wrote the first pages of the history of the most popular Argentinean team. The name of the institution was taken directly from its neighborhood, but the word Juniors was added to give an English tone to it, so that way it would have more prestige taking away the bad reputation that the neighborhood had gain during those years. The name of the team has never been changed since the creation of the club.

In the year 1905, it was really simple to try to find a free space to create a little soccer field and with this purpose the young founders that year searched for a place located in Darsena Sur. The team played there for two years but when Boca was affiliated to the association in the year 1907 it was forced to evacuate this site because it did not achieved the minimum requirements for games such as bathrooms and locker rooms.

In the island of Demarchi which was located near the neighborhood of la Boca, the team found another territory where they used three fields from 1908 to 1912. However, that year they need to move again. In 1914, the directives of the club decided to accept the proposal to rent a territory in Wilde; unfortunately, the distance of the location of the field and the bad campaign that the team carried out during the season of 1914-1915, caused a decrease of associates reducing the quantity from 1500 to 300.

Faced with tremendous problems, the leaders decided to return to La Boca and build the stadium there. There was a place between Brin and Senquel Minster streets. There operated a warehouse that was used by a factory of artificial tone blocks for storage. In May 25th, 1916, the new stadium was located in that place and inaugurated. Unfortunately, the patrons protests forced them to leave, and the search for a location continued. This search came to an end in 1923, when a piece of land located in Brandsen and Del Cruises was rented. The galleries were built with wood and preceded to be known -as it is nowadays- as La Bombonera. The inauguration took place on June 6th, 1924. The first period of the construction began in 1938; in the same place that was located the previous stadium which was finished in 1940.The architect who was responsible for the work was the engineer Jose L. Delpini. La Bombonera was inaugurated on May 25th, 1940, during the presidency of Eduardo Sanchez Terrero. On Sunday, June 2nd, 1940 the first official game was disputed in the new stadium. Boca juniors faced Newell’s Old Boys and beat them 2-0 with goals from Alarcon and Gandulla. In the year 1949, began the construction of the final stage of the great dream of Boca, and that same year, the artificial lighting of the stadium was opened.

Boca juniors have won numerous important tournaments and titles that have given it an enormous worldwide prestige. Some of the most distinguished titles that Boca Juniors has won are:

According to the present times Boca present his official website in internet. In 1998 the era Bianchi begun: the club obtain the tournament of the Apertura 98 (unbeaten for the first time in the professional era) and Clausura 99, being the best Boca two times in a rod champion of the history, in terms of effectiveness in points. In addition, gets the unbeaten record in the history of professional soccer from Argentina: 40 encounters without defeats. For the first time in its 95 years gets the “triple crown” Libertadores Cup, Intercontinental Cup of clubs in Japan and Opening tournament, all of them in 2000. La Bombonera changed its name in December 2000 by “Alberto J. Armando” in tribute to the former president. Win Copa Libertadores 2001. In 2003, with the return of Carlos Bianchi, Boca gets his second triple crown: Libertadores Cup, Intercontinental Cup of Clubs in Japan and OpeningTorunament. In 2004 won it’s first Copa Sudamericana and in 2005, with the leadership of Basle, reached a new Triple Crown (this time without Bianchi): Recopa Sudamericana, Opening Tournament and Copa Sudamericana. That year the club would have their first problem, for the lack of place in La Bombonera decide to cancel the registration of associates. Following the overwhelming demand for tickets to visitor fan, decided to implement a ranking of associates to reduce the ones who would have the priority for thickets.

Uniforms

At the beginning of the century, it was very difficult that a team would maintain the colors of the shirt definitely and Boca was not the exception of this issue. The team had other shirts before adopting the colors that the team uses these days. It is said that the first shirt was a dark light-blue and made of a satin fabric. However, there are versions that say that the pioneer was pink, although, it was used only a few of games. After a few days, the founders met again and asked a sister of them the purchase of other shirts. The new shirts were made of wool, blue and white with vertical stripes very fine. (Others versions indicate a similar design but with black and white colors). The legend says that there was a team called Boedo, which had a similar shirt. Then an agreement was made between the clubs and they made a challenge game to define who will be the one who stayed with the colors. This game was lost by Boca and had it had to decide on new colors. A young man, who worker on the bridge of La Boca was inspired by the flag of a Swedish vessel which had the colors blue and yellow, and this is how Boca Juniors started to use this colors all the time. But before reaching the current model of the shirt, Boca used a blue shirt that had a yellow stripe in 1908. (This design was similar to the actual shirt of the River Plate team). This necessity brought the need of create another game of shirts. Conversely, the novelty was that the bay, rather than going thought the chest in an oblique way was made horizontally. And at that precise moment al the doubts were gone: Boca had found the shirt that would lead the team to the fame. In the year 1996, an agreement was reached to modify the traditional design by adding a white horizontal stripe two centimeters thick, between the colors blue and yellow. And this design led to a great controversy because the majority of people were opposed to the white stripe on the official shirt. In the year 1998, Boca juniors returned to their original colors, but this time the yellow horizontal stripe was made of 33 cm thick. In the year 2000, the yellow horizontal strip returned to it is classic size of 15 cm of thickness and the blue color was presented more clearly. In 2001, the current shirt of Boca adopts another innovation: the coat in the middle and not on the side as before. It was added to the sides a strip of a darker blue and in the back is yellow from the number to the bottom. In 2003, the design is modified, eliminating the yellow line on the back, with larger more visible numbers. The current model represents a design with a darker blue and yellow, and the coat at the center of the chest. The yellow lines returned to the back.

Stadium

In the year of 1986, it was decided to call the Bombonera officially with the name of “Dr Camilo Cichero,” in honor of that president that during whose mandate the cornerstone was laid for the construction of the stadium. However, in 2002, under the presidency of Mauricio Macri, the official name was change by the one of “Alberto J. Armando”. The stadium is located in the Neighborhood of La Boca in the 805 Bradsen, Capital Federal. The date of the inauguration was the 25 of May of 1940. The capacity of the stadium is for 49,000 spectators. When the stadium was being built win the nickname of La Bombonera and this was for the form that the stadium was getting. La Bombonera is a well know stadium in all parts of the world. Many teams from others countries say that playing in la Bombonera is different from playing in others fields and this is because for all the movement that is provide from the fans and here is when the stadium comes alive and its seems that there was an earthquake inside. A lot of players fear when they just get inside the field because the architecture and from the movement that is produce in the stadium.
