Club Football

Auxerre

Bacary began his career at Auxerre, playing 34 league games for Auxerre B between 2002 and 2004, after which he made the breakthrough the senior side. Under the legendary Guy Roux he played a total of 81 league games for Auxerre, scoring 1 goal.

He was voted France's best right sided defender for the 2006-7 season and made the selection for the league's team of the season.

Arsenal

He moved to Arsenal in July of 2007 for an undisclosed fee. At the time it seemed a strange purchase as Arsenal already had two right full backs in Emmanuel Eboue and Justin Hoyte but the new man showed exactly why he was brought to the club.

He made his full debut on the first day of the 2007-8 season against Fulham and soon his remarkably consistent performances made people sit up and take notice. Often players take some time to adapt to a new league but Sagna looked comfortable from the start.

He is strong in the tackle, very quick, good in the air and brave. He scored his first goal for Arsenal against Chelsea in March, dedicating it to his brother who had passed away the previous month. In the same game he picked up an ankle injury which would see him miss the rest of the campaign and miss out on France's Euro 2008 squad.

His absence was sorely felt by Arsenal whose defence lacked the balance and stability he gave them.

He has two caps for France. His debut came against Slovakia in August 2007.
