About Heather Mitts

Heather Mitts is a key defender on the USA Women's national soccer team. She has the sporty good looks of a professional althete at the top of her career -- not to mention she's been noted as one of he hottest female athletes in the world, and certainly is one of the top 5 best looking soccer players.

Heather Mitts was chosen as a starting player by one of the first teams in the early days of the US women's professional soccer league. After a season with the Tampa Bay Extreme and several games with the under-21 national team, she moved to the Philadelphia Charge, one of the nation's top women's squads. She's now playing with the US Women's team and has moved to California to train.

Heather's Background

Heather (Blain) Mitts was born on June 9, 1978 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her father (named Don) is a cardiac surgeon, and her mother Jan is a personal fitness trainer. when she was 6, Heather kicked her first ball, and she is still going. When she was 8 she was playing on organized teams but she continued to play other sports.

After Heather completed her freshman year of high school, Mitts decided to only play football and she decided to try to go to collage on an athletic scholarship. Heather received just about every honor in for high school athletics and lead St. Ursula Academy to four straight district titles. The University of Florida saw her as a future women's soccer star, and gave Heather the scholarship she dreamt about.

Heather Mitts College Soccer

Heather started her college career as famously as she had left her high school career. In her first season, she started in 20 of 21 matches, logging a total of 1,270 minutes and winning the team's Gator award for exceeding coaches' expectations.

When Heather became a junior she led the Gators to a national victory and was crowned an all-American athlete. The US national team just had to have her at that point, and they took her onto the under-21 squad, where she played while the first American professional women's soccer league was being planned. When they announced the formation of the WPL Heather received an offer from Tampa Bay asking her to play in the league in its first season.

Heather Mitts and the WUSA

Heather's time on the Tampa team was short as the the Philadelphia Charge, the seemingly stronest team in the Women's United Soccer federation, made her a transfer offer. So in 2001 Mitts was drafted to Philadelphia drafted and she became their strongest defender - the girl who would let no opposing player past. Heather was building momentum and becoming increasingly more famous, for both her awesome play on the field and her drop-dead-gorgeous looks.

Heather Mitts in the Olympics

The US National Team, the reigning women's world Olympic champions put Heather Mitts on its roster in 2003, shortly before the Olympics in Athens. Joining the US team allowed her to play against the top players in the world in addition to her teammates, and she has helped keep the team on the top of world soccer. Heather played in the the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, and in Beijing in 2008.

International Football

Heather plays for the US Women's Soccer Team. She's a defender so goal scoring is not what she does, but she has proven she can keep larger strikers at bay and keep balls out of the goal.
