Real Madrid legend Raul could be set for a last massive payday, with the Spanish striker linked with a move to Premier League side Manchester City, according to Marca.
Raul has been at the Bernaubeu since 1992, coming through the youth system at Los Blancos to make his La Liga debut in 1994 and has scored over 300 goals for the Spanish giants.
However, despite being given a contract for life in February, which stipulates that it’s automatically renewed if Raul plays 30 games a season. It is felt that the prolific striker will be moved on if as expected Florentino Perez wins the presidential election at the Bernabeu this summer.
31-year-old Raul was critical of Perez and his ‘Galactico’ transfer policy in his last term as president after he resigned in 2006, with it understood that this has not been forgotten by Perez, who is keen to rebuild a squad that has been second best to bitter rivals Barcelona this campaign.
Indeed in his last term as president, Perez discarded Los Blancos star Fernando Hierro by giving him a free transfer out of the Spanish capital to make way for ‘Galactico’s in 2003.
Now it is claimed by Marca that people working on behalf of wealthy City owner’s the ADUG, have met with Raul’s agent Gines Carvajal about the possibility of a transfer to the Eastlands Stadium. After Brazilian winger Robinho a former team mate of Raul’s recommended the striker to the Premiership side.
It is reported that the Blues are ready to offer Raul a four-year deal, worth a staggering €40million and give the Spaniard, who has found the net 18 times in 33 La Liga appearances this season a way out of Spain. Should the striker find himself surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu, with the expected changes in the boardroom.
