As I arrived I had no idea what to expect, but from the damn near 68,000 (90% Mexico fans since it was held in San Diego and that is their home stadium) I had just got a clue. I (an Argentina fan, in full gear) was the minority! As soon as I got out of the car and went to put my bag in the trunk I got a loud BOOOOO in my hear from a mass of Mexico fans. Yeah I knew what I was in for, but I also knew we where going to kick some Mexican ass today...so I let it slide and just kept walking.
As I entered the stadium it was clear Mexico was there to cheer their team on and where fanatical to say the least. Red, Green and White were all I saw! They few Argentina fans I saw in the halls of the stadium seemed to be in good spirits but where just shuffling through the isles to get a beer, use the bathroom or just get to their seats! After finally finding mine, I took it all in!
The stadium at that point was still hardly filled and most of the seats next to me where empty, but ALL the rows in front of me where filled with die hard Mexico fans, draped in their colors, sombreros, paint and horns blaring - it was clear I did not pick the wrong area to sit it, but that this is where it was going down.As I sat out the hour + before the 8pm start up, I heard chants and beamed over to see the Argentina fan section (clearly I had not paid for those seats but will do so next time) which held maybe 100+ fans in their blue & white, waving flags, blowing horns and waving balloons in the air!
I felt a sense of one with them; even at the hundreds of yards away...After maybe 30min, a couple more Argentina fans settled into my section and we felt like we where going to have to really yell and scream over all the Mexico fans to let our team know we where there for THEM! And we did. From the moment they sat down, it was made known they (as I) was glad to see them.
The start up of the game was amazing, fans screaming on both ends, the continuous wave of the crowds and the team lining up (was it 4, 3, 2, 1 - yeah then it was a 3, 5, 2 (typo before, LOL)) then it was on! Both teams fought like hell for the ball and Mexico's fans went wild as did we, then GOAL! Argentina! We screamed and jumped up and down and after when we heard PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTO and then MEXICO (as we all yelled out after "SUCKS") Mexico (Sucks) from the Mexico fans the race for the ball was on again.Gago played great and Messi - well he is the best! No matter the tumbles and hard hits he got, he played the hell out of that game and made the 1 goal that Mexico could get off, seem, well....pointless! 4-1 the game was over and we won. I will never forget this game.
GAME OVER!
On One hell of a game!
