Tools for getting to matches

Monday, 01 September 08, 01:36 PM

What do you use to calculate distances for your travels? I like this distance calculator tool here. It has Maps, directions, pictures, a user Q and A thing so you can share opinions and ask questions or give answers and help about travel things related.

From the distance from london to coventry page: Hi, My husband works in Coventry and I work at Liverpool street, London. I would like to know the most convenient place to reside in London so that the commuting time would be less for both of us.

Robert said:Hi Sunny, great question. What are you after? A hotel near liverpool street or a house? As you may know London has an abundance of hotels and properties varying in price. Please tell us more ) - date was 2008-08-18

It also has links to hotel bookings and car hire facilities and other useful tools that I need for planning my journey. It’s no trip advisor or expedia but it’s certainly useful.

Going to California and need to plan your trip? That page there lists over 5000 journeys already worked out by others. It does the same for other states too.

Going to Europe? Then again it has a similar set up broken down into country and locality showing how many times each locaility has been accessed. Take this Paris page for example, a nice little map showing where Paris is and a number of towns that people have already searched for as well as a list of hotels and places to stay in those towns. Take a distance like Paris to London and you get travel estimations and various other little tools and add ons that you can source what you need.

By Road: If you were in a road vehicle maintaining an average speed of 40mph (64 kmh), it would take you approximately 5.4 hours to travel from Paris to London

By Train: If you were in a train that averaged 100mph (160.9 kmh) it would take you around 2.1 hours to travel from Paris to London

By Air: If you were in a plane and maintained an average airspeed of 450 mph (724.1 kmh), your travelling time would be approximately 1 hours for Paris to London.

* All times are for illustrative purposes only and should not be relied upon as actual journey times. Check with your travel company for precise journey times between Paris and London. Train times assume non stop, air times include 30 minutes for take off and landing.

Not exactly accurate to the nth degree but saves you a bit of thinking time nonetheless.

The real kicker is the Google maps implentation. The Rotterdam to Amsterdam example, shows the map and driving directions too, especially useful for planning purposes. It doesn’t yet give you the option to print them off, but you can always just highlight them and do a print selection from your print options.

Its world distance section is missing a few countries and doesn’t seem to have the functionality of the other pages, but its still a good tool.

Definitely one for bookmarking

So we beat the umbrella mans team but what about Newcastle?

Friday, 29 August 08, 05:02 AM

So we are playing the geordies on Saturday. Having beaten Mclarens FC Twente our geordie friends are coming down to see us all the way down from Newcastle to London question is are going to beat them? I'd like to think that confidence is going to be up; Bendtner extolled a certain confidence after the game in the week saying how the team that got beat by Fulham just wasn't the Arsenal that we know and love.

I want to believe him of course. I'd like to think that the presence of Cesc is going to make a difference and that maybe the team itself was a little ring rusty and couldn't quite get into gear at Fulham. The performance at the Emirates against Mclarens lot showed that we did have a certain zip a certain flair and that players like Nasri,  Denilson, Walcott, Bentdner are finally finding their feet and are ready to do the business.

My match prediction. Arsenal 3 Newcastle 0
