Is Wenger's side really top four material??

Thursday, 11 December 08, 02:06 AM

Remember a couple of seasons ago when everyone expected to break into the top four at Arsenal's expense?? The Arsenal faithful said it was absurd. If someone says, at this point of time that Villa or Manchester City or even Everton maybe will break into the top four at Arsenal's expense, I wonder how many Arsenal fans will respond with spontaneity, I bet many of us will have second thoughts.

What is Arsene Wenger thinking?? I don't know, I'm pretty sure Pat Rice doesn't know and I won't be surprised if Wenger doesn't know himself. 12 seasons he has been at the club, this is clearly the worst side we've ever had(defensively). We're pretty good up front, I'm sure everyone will agree, Bendtner being the exception.

Let's have a look at our defense.

At home,

Goals conceded by Liverpool: 4

Goals conceded by Chelsea :5 (2 thanks to Robin "Chocolate Foot" Van Persie)

Goals conceded by Man Utd:4

Goals conceded by Arsenal: 10

If I were the Porto coach, honestly, I would be offended by the team Wenger put out last night. Chelsea would put out a stronger side for a first round Carling Cup Match.

When Wenger says, he believes we're still in running for the title, I wonder what he must be thinking. Is he drunk?? or is he being sarcastic??

Does he honestly think that either Song, Denilson or Diaby is good enough to partner Cesc in midfield.

What I fail to understand most out of all the things I don't understand about Wenger is,  HOW THE FUCK DOES HE EXPECT THE SHITCUNTS THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE,TO DEVELOP, WITHOUT HAVING PLAYERS FOR THEM TO LEARN FROM, IN THE FIRST PLACE.

I mean, Walcott had Henry for a good year, year and a half. Cesc had Viera, even played along side him, described him as someone he could learn from. Toure learnt from Adams, Campbell etc.

But the current lot, who can they learn from?? The young defenders like Djourou,Norveidt have got no hope because they've been getting advice from amateurs like Gallas. We've got Song,Diaby and Denilson to learn from each other, I can only wonder how that is going to work out.

So I think we can all agree, we need quality, we need experience, we need to spend even more than City come January(which thankfully is only 20 days away).

Pat Rice, please, punch Wenger in the face. We the fans won't mind neither will Wenger, he knows he deserves it.

Arsenal's Defense : A Three Legged Stool

Saturday, 06 December 08, 11:48 AM

Arsenal are weak aerially, this is a well know fact and it has been exploited by teams regardless of where they stand in the table. Arsene Wenger on the other hand is almost reluctant to admit that we have this weakness and has done nothing whatsoever to address this issue.

It has been repeatedly said by fans and pundits alike that Arsenal need to buy a tall centre back who is good in the air and is comfortable dealing with set pieces.

Arsenal's back four is one of the quickest, if not THE quickest in the premier league, but it is in the air where they are vulneable. Some thought (including Wenger I think) that Phillipe Senderos was the answer, but that too didn't work out, he turned out to be more like Cygan than Tony Adams or Sol Campbell. Loaned to AC Milan, I think we let a good defender go, although we can get him back, there is a clause in his contract according to which his move can be made permanent. I think Milan will want to exploit that. Because he is still young and he can still learn.

What made Milan sign Senderos, I don't know. They must have seen something ,plus, Milan are a club who know a thing or two about defending.

The only "BRIGHT" prospect of Arsenal's defense at the moment is Johan Djourou, I think. Standing at 6 FT 4 in', he is the tallest in the squad(along with Ade, also the same height), capable of winning aerial battles. Another interesting stat I got of Online Gooner is: ARSENAL HAVE KEPT 7 CLEANSHEETS IN THE NINE GAMES DJOUROU HAS STARTED THIS SEASON". This fact alone, should guarantee him a starting place I would say. Alongside him, I would prefer Toure or Sylvestre or Sagna or Clichy or Fabregas or Denilson......or Adebayor or Gallas. In that order.

I know Wenger likes to "KEEP THE FAITH" and everything but why he looks at Gallas as a son separated from him at birth, recently reunited is beyond me. I know he is top class and everything but he is clearly past his prime and he should be sold like Henry, Viera and countless others  were when they were past their best. Plus I think, Gallas has got a big ego and this doesn't sit in well with the youngsters who are just at the beginning of their careers.
