Barry at Arsenal?

Saturday, 30 May 09, 01:18 AM · Comments (2)

This has been out for about a day or so, and this can happen, unlike most transter rumours. Villa's centre midfield maestro Gareth Barry is linked with us for 12 million quid. He's in the final year of his contract, and has been linked to Liverpool at the beginning of this season. (0809.) This season is still 0809 until the FA Cup finishes, later tonight Australian time.

It says in the Telegraph that our only competition is City (with their bucks), Spurs, and Liverpool are 5050 because Benitez is looking for Tevez, as his contract also expires. If Tevez was at Arsenal then it would add definite bulk to our attack, of Van Persie, Eduardo, Vela, Bendtner, Adebayor (if not sold), and Arshavin. Or we could get him for free and then sell him for a massive profit. United style. No thanks.

More transfer rumours now, and after VfL Wolfsburg's emphatic win over Werder Bremen (UEFA Cup losers) to finish their league campaign in style, Chelsea are eyeing Edin Dzeko closely. But he wants to move to Italy. Good for him.

But that's not it. We want Christian Gentner, again a Centre Midfielder. It says in Goal.com, that 'Gentner has operated in Wolfsburg's midfield since 2007. He had a crucial part in Wolfsburg's claim for the Bundesliga title, and since his arrival, he has featured 50 times, scoring seven goals. He only has recently been rewarded with a call-up to the German national side.'
We don't quite know what his transfer fee will be, and now we know that Wenger has a plan A and B. A is Barry, and B will be Gentner. Gentner will have a slightly higher transfer price, I think, because they have just won a title and he is younger than Barry. I'll price him at about 14 million pounds.
We've heard of Van Persie not wanting to renew his contract just yet, but Bendtner wants to. The 21 year old has been put down badly, and is now back in my good books after inspired performances this half of the season. He has netted 15 goals this season, which is good, considering he hasn't been on Wenger's list for half the games. But Bendtner looks promising to be a strong striker, as he is only 21, and wants to stay. His current contract expires in 2012, but these days time flies.
"It is of course a priority to prolong my contract, and I have never said anything else.
"For me it is sweet to recieve the backing from the manager, and I hope to stay at the club for a long time."
Finally, on the talk of contracts, Van Persie has hinted at leaving, but that is very unlikely, with 2 years left on his current contract and playing well for us too.
"The club and I have not been able to make any headway.
"But maybe soon I will have something new to report. That is all I have to say now."
I certainly think he won't leave, despite dozens of 'unhappy' news stories this season, saying he wanted to go to Rangers (but Arsenal unlocked his potential), and that he is unhappy about not winning anything. But he isn't going anywhere.
That's the full from me today, and the FA Cup (sponsored by e.on) is on, watching it, and hoping for an Everton win, because Chelsea suck, and Aussie Cahill is firing for Everton. (And Drogba might be out.) Cheers, all.
