New Striker for the Arsenal between Monday-Wednesday?

Sunday, 24 June 07, 02:29 AM · Comments(5)

Unfortunately not a 100% good source, but a new striker is expected to be signed by Wednesday for the Arsenal, in fact possibly even being unveiled as early as Monday, to boost the Arsenal fans as pictures of Henry doing tricks and juggling and smiling at the Nou Camp in a Barca shirt stream through.

Rumours so far are - Anelka, Michael Owen and/or Obafemi Martins. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is also another widely mooted possiblity, although Wenger's preference for pace and Huntelaar's lack of it (especially in comparison to the aforementioned trio) will probably count against him.

The Henry transfer has been boiling for a while, maybe even from as early as January, and Wenger has been actively seeking out reinforcements. The broadsheets have also picked up on this, some saying that Arsenal are in advanced negotiations to sign someone.

Wenger won't be wasting any time this year. Two seasons ago he dilly dallied over Julio Baptista, while Shaun-Wright Phillips and Sergio Ramos both decided to sign for Real Madrid and Chelsea (respectively) instead, and pre-season (and the season) were disastrous. Early July is when the Arsenal will have their pre-season matches underway, and hopefully all signings will be done and dusted by mid-July so that the preparations for 2007/2008 can go smoothly.

I can't say any of those are exactly getting my pulse racing. Though no doubt in the Arsenal way someone is going to appear from the sidelines that we'd previously underrated.
I'm more worried about Wengers future and the effect that will have on bringing anyone in.

I agree, my biggest concern is will Wenger be staying, he is the one we will struggle to replace. I am also confident that van Persie will prove he is a great striker next season.

Owen would be great if he could remain healthy, but as he's shown he cant play a quarter of a season every 2 years. the only prem striker w/ a greater injury ordeal is Ole Gun, who plays 5 games and is out for 3 years or so it seems.

Martins has great pace but not much of anything else. he's a disaster winning balls in the air and is not a very clinical finisher ( I know ppl will disagree with this assessment as he has a lot of fans particularly Africans or Inter fans) if he had more vision for passes he may have made a hell of a wing forward or side mid.

Anelka i think may be a more durable/complete option but not the caliber of player that a top side requires.

Huntelaar, from what little i have seen from him seems clinical in the face of goal (kinda like Ruud) which with the team that arsenal already has in terms of play makers is what this team needs.

listen i think that ur analysis of obafemi martins is no where near true except i can agree that he might not have vision but he can finish and has got a rocket shot and will out run any defender and also put pass backs to the keeper in the back of the net and to be fair he would fit in best with arsenal and anelka is past his best ii think so obafemi is the better choice and glenn roeder has already said that he'd rather lose owen then obafemi because obafemi has more potential therefore mean he is better !! end of lol
