I am back baby yeah! A round up of the Villa news!

Monday, 13 July 09, 11:14 AM · Comments (8)

Hey all, I apologise for the lack of posts on my end, I have been away since thursday and have only just been able to access the internet. That has also meant that I have been fairly in the dark over what or more to the point what has not been happening. So I just thought I would update everyone of the main snippets of information about what is happening in the world of AVFC.

First off, we have MON coming out and saying that he wants to and needs to add to the squad, and apparentley we could and will be seeing this additions within the next two weeks according to the man himself. Now I know a few of you, not mentioning any names have been saying how much you have been annoyed by the lack of activity and also the fact that MON has been very quiet in his contact with the media. But it is looking like we are going to see activity and in the not to distant future, thank god for that!

Now turning to the rumours, okey, this one isnt a rumour but is still the only sign of us make inroads so far. We have tried to sign young starlet Fabian Delph from Leeds, but have had a bid rejected, obviously we do not know the exact figures that are on the table, but this is a player with real quality and potential. I was talking to a friend of mine who has played at semi-professional level and he says this kid has some real potential to make it to the top, so this is the sort of English signing I would like to see wearing a Villa top!

On top of this, Miguel Veloso looks increasingly destined to be our replacement for Barry, as there is increasing reports coming from serious sources suggesting we are very interested in the Portuguese international. Furthermore, apparentley we lead the race to sign Steward Downing from Middlesborough, now I do not feel that we need him but he would be a good squad signing, but not for the quoted £12 million. Also according to the newspaper the deal could be done by this week. No need to comment on Crouch, you all know my thoughts and who I would prefer between Crouch and Carew! Zat Knight looks set to be leaving Villa Park as Wolves and Sunderland step up their interest in the player! Which begs the question who is going to come in and replace our ever increasing back line?

A bit of bad news is it is looking like we are increasingly set to miss out on the signature of young Kyle Naughton from Sheffield United, as Everton have already had a bid accepted, while Spurs have also joined the race now. So bye bye Kyle!

However a little bit of good news in one sense, is that I can clarify that rubbish about Ashley Young going to Man Utd, Fergie has come out today and said that he will not be doing anymore spending in the transfer window!

Right, heads up, look forward to more news/updates from me and expect some signings soon! Up the Villa!

the next post is one from a comment i made just before, thought u might like to read it. it concerns downing and tuncay. i know you think downing could be a worthwhile squad player, but then again we could get bentley for 5mil less and have a better/ just as bad player(statistically). i know from what you said above that you wouldnt be willing to pay 12mil.

seriously though, the money could be put to much better use. why not pay over the odds for delph like what he did with ashley young? the guy could become an instant superstar and almost triple in value like young, and if not instantly then he certainly still has a very bright career ahead of him.

why is everyone SO HYPED over stewart downing????????? is it just because he has played for england? seriously, the guy didnt get one premiership goal last season (and had 70 shots!) and made 148 crosses with 4 FUC*ING assists yet we are reportedly willing to pay 12million for him. in that case, why dont they give the groundsman 12million quid to go spend on horse shi* and pile it up on the left wing. im sure it would be more effective!

seriously, are we actually considering paying 12million pounds for someone who should consider himself lucky to make it to the subs bench at villa? meanwhile we have two other wingers, milner and young with 8 and 7 assists respectively, with young scoring 7 goals and milner scoring 3. moreover. milners assists are equal 6th in the EPL alongside cesc fabregas, yet people say, 'ohh he was average, he still has a lot to prove'.

it annoys me so much that o'neill could be considering downing, and almost as much, tuncay. gabby (who went very cold towards the end of the season i know) has been called 'retarded' by some of OUR fans, yet the guy scored almost double the amount of goals than tuncay, with less actual shots and people still want tuncay! im sorry to say fellas, you're going to be very disappointed by january and you're going to want to ship the fool out by then. but hey, 18million pounds for the next sidwell/heskey combination, no biggie... we could spend that on someone worth 20mil and get three times the player and o'neill could turn them into 6times the player that either of those gumps are!!!!!! FU*K ME what is going through his head? its like he becomes a completely different person come transfer time.

then again, i hope im just completely wrong and it is just crap journalism and that o'neill feels the same way.. by some miracle however, i think im going to have to put my money with the british media.. and id generally feel safer leaving $1000 with a junkie for a week than believing anything from those tabloids

ps good to see that you are back in action.. was beginning to wonder if you had put yourself into a medically induced coma and ordered the doctors to wake you up once the transfer window was all done and dusted!

haha, yes that does seem like the most sensible option.

on the points above, what I was trying to convey, is that I dont dislike Stewart Downing and if we do sign him I am not going to be having a go at MON, because he would add some depth to the team and provide us with a decent sub! But there is no way in hell he is worth that kind of money, especially with the current injury he has. On top of this I would take Bentley every day of the week over Downing and I seriously hope we do sign Bentley, I think he would be an absolutely quality signing. With the likes of MON and Robertson on his case I can see us seeing the sort of form he showed at Blackburn and those little glimpses at Spurs with his 30/40 yard lob goal against Arsenal last season.

YES YES YES YES YES, I am in total agreement with you! I would much rather have us spend the money on Delph, this kid is going to be big, and I desparatley want to see him in a claret and blue top, I can see him as you have highlighted being a Ashley Young signing! So the verdict is, ditch downing, and sign Delph, (Whatever the cost, whether it be £7-10 million) and also get Bentley in pronto!

deary me... 12mil pound fee agreed for downing. the guy is half the player milner is and yet we are paying the same price. double what 'downer' is worth imo. just because you pay exorbitant amounts of money for a player martin, doesnt mean they are a star signing or one that will take us forward.. pi*sing money away

and apparently liverpool are now in for our boy ashley. no thank you. and 12mil for someone who should be considered a squad player is ludicrous. he would be a decent squad player but shouldnt be a first team regular surely. it would appear that o'neill intends on moving milner to central mid and using downing on the left and moving ashley to the right (ash looks better on the left imo, seen him on the right a few times and doesnt look as dangerous).

its either the above, or he intends on using downing off the bench.. and like i said, 12mil for a benchwarmer is bad business. why not use the 12mil to buy an exciting CENTRAL midfield prospect.. ie where that guy used to play, what was his name again, oh thats right, GARETH BARRY.

so let me get this straight and feel free to comment here.. o'neill wants to 'fill the void' left by gareth barry by signing stewart downing? if your answer is no, then why the hell did he just go and blow the 12mil he made off the back off GB on downer?

we could have had bentley who supposedly wants to come, for 5mil less. i reckon both are probably worth about the same (id like to hear what other people value these two at), so why then, is MON willing to pay almost double for downer and snub bentley? does he own a magical crystal ball that says 'downer will score 10 goals and set up just as many when he returns after his right foot recovers to its formerly retarded state.' ????
