Todays speculation & a possible reason for no movement?

Wednesday, 08 July 09, 04:37 AM · Comments (2)

There is further speculation today of MON cashing in on Zat Knight who Bolton are apparently interested in, on top of this he is willing to sell Nigel Reo-Coker to Tottenham, and Shorey back to Reading. Furthermore Sky Sports have reported that MON is set to reject any approach made by Spurs for the big Norwegian hitman John Carew.

But if these players are leaving, who is coming in?

Well without going into how true these rumours are, here are the ones for today! Apparently we are finally preparing a bid for Kyle Naughton, who we were apparently on the verge of signing him two or three weeks ago. Furthermore we face competition for Downing, Crouch and Distin according to the papers. I will say no more as many already know my opinion on this.

Also, I remember reading earlier, that Everton have made a bid for Steven Defour, which is a player I really would quite like to see at Villa Park and I feel we really should be matching them on this one, as I really want to do better than Everton next season!

Now last night I was listening to Talk Sport on the radio while driving home and someone from the Birmingham Mail was commentating his opinion on the Birmingham signings, as they have signed no less than 7 signings and are apparently only just starting. But what is going on at Villa, now according to this fellow, (sorry his name illudes me) he was suggesting that because of our current situation and locaction within the league, that we dont hold a champions league spot, that we are still shopping near those markets, therefore we have to wait for the top four etc to finish their shopping so that we can see whats left and then make signings. This in my eyes is crazy, yes it makes some sense, but at the same time if we want to break that top four monopoly we have to tango with the big boys, that means getting in those big name signings and soon and not just sitting back!

STILL nothing.....It's getting a bit silly now.

Plus, Berg has opted for Hamburg, so that's TWO down with him & Owen.

And I see Everton are bidding for Defour, bet we dont even enter.

By the time O'Neill wakes up from his transfer coma, will there be anybody left to sign?

Or are Villa going to try and compete on 4 fronts with a squad of 18, most of those average at best??

Oh dear. I fell into the trap that everyone else did, that we are top 4. Reality is, we are a mid-table side that excelled these last 2 years.

Time to go back to where we belong I think :(

REALLY hope i'm wrong, but O'Neill isnt helping.
