Paul Jewell, ahead of Wigan's match against Newcastle this weekend has come out with a great one today.

He says of Michael Owen "We are up against arguably the best striker in Europe at the moment."

What planet is Paul Jewell on or is he drinking something special in the morning?

We think this is blarney so it's going in the blarney stone. I'd personally have atleast 10 strikers ahead of Owen with atleast four from the Premiership.

According to little Michael Owen only Brazil are better than England and he fancies England to lift the World Cup in Germany next year.

Naturally players like Owen and Becks have to attain a certain amount of press coverage each week to keep sponsors happy but doesn't this do him more damage than good?

England only qualified because of other results and only beating Austria 1-0 isn't anything to get too excited about.

I hope England put in a good performance at the World Cup next year...
