1 in 4 chance of midtable finish

Monday, 30 April 07, 04:17 PM · Comments (0)

After the good football we are playing at the moment, the position we're in and the fairly reasonable fixtures we have remaining it is disappointing to be playing with 4 teams to finish 10th.

After Reading's victory over Newcastle tonight it means we cannot finish higher than 10th. We're only a point behind Blackburn, who have Newcastle (a), Tottenham (a) and Reading (h) remaining. Tricky.

On paper, you'd think we'd get more off Sheffield United (h) and Bolton (a) than Blackburn off their 3 fixtures. Sam Allerdyce's departure could play either way for us depending on whether Bolton have new manager's syndrome or not. Our away form has been good so hopefully we can get a result there.

Newcastle and Man City are 4 points behind us so a win in either two of our remaining games will guarantee an 11th place finish. Woohoo I hear you scream.

Considering how poor we were in the middle of the season, to finish 10th would be ok. I'd hate to finish 11th, missing out on the top half by 1 place.

So a slightly deflating position considering how well we've been playing in recent fixtures, but I think Martin O'Neill has finally finished his analysis of the team and I think we should look forward to the summer and the next stage of the Randylution!

Up the Villa!
