Next Saturday Aston Villa Football Club want to know some suggestions for what will become the 'official' club song. I've got one suggestion for the club and that's don't run with this idea.
I believe this Supporters Consultation Group can be a good thing. I don't necessarily think it's a great idea and believe it's pandering to a few people and groups but it should be able to get us some nicer food at Villa Park, maybe help with parking and the few that get to go will get looked after at every meeting; which is nice.
I just think when it comes to a song sung by the fans it should come from the fans and have nothing to do with the club. What will they do after this; publish the words in the match programme! Could you imagine the embarrassment if the lyrics to the official club song had to be published in the programme?
Do you think it was the Liverpool board that came up with the idea that the Liverpool supporters sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' or 'Fields of Anfield Road'? Was it the Manchester United board that came up with 'United Road, Take me Home'?
Am I alone in thinking that there are some things that the supporters and the club just shouldn't be doing together. It's our club and we will be here a lot longer after this board has moved on so why should they be involved?
The supporters have to come up with the song and not with the club in a meeting set up for a few. The song has to come from the Holte and it has to grow organically because the supporters allow it to happen not because a small percentage vote on an internet poll and it gets published in the programme.
I don't want Aston Villa to become a manufactured club and I also don't want the club saying this is your club song which I honestly thought we already had!
Before I go I think I should apologise as most of what I've posted the past three days is quite negative. I just don't like Mark Delaney, this Supporters Consultation Group doesn't have legs and Villa World do need a new presenter; so sorry, it will be much better next week after we've won on Monday night and we're fifth again.

From the comments I've read on several forums, fans are well split about the "official" song, you can be sure whatever is picked will be hated by a large section of supporters.
There's not a lot wrong with the one the team come out to now is there?
I just wish they'd not announce the teams yet again just prior to kick off, it stifles the chanting for the players from the Holte, we can see who's playing anyway.
holte enders in the sky anyone? i always thought that was the villa song!
Still having a dig then Damien? Never mind about being negative in the last 3 days, you'd bring down a kid on Christmas Eve. Go with the flow and smile! You'll actually begin to enjoy life..........
I agree with KenVillan there is nothing wrong with the tune we are using now. Is it true Macho man "Randy Lerner" is looking into sorting out the PA system at Villa Park??
Come on the Villa Boys. Am going 4 a 0-1 victory tonight - Petrov from 25yds
General Krulak did say on one of the forums that they were looking into the PA System and Bassett Max, I love life .. I just don't buy into all this Supporter Consultation Group thing ... there are a few hundred supporters emplyed at Aston Villa already!
What are we? Newcastle? The fans have created countless songs over the years and I for one am very happy with them thank you very much.
Although maybe it's time to change 'Spinksy, Birchy and Alan Mcinally' in 'my old man' to more recent players. Then again, that's probably down to the players to merit it.
We don't need an official anthem sponsored by COKE(TM)!! Remember thoses awful Chas n Dave efforts about the Yids!? No, no, no....
If Aston Villa take 10,000 fans up to Old Trafford, that will be a memorbale day for the club and the supporters with that many fans up there, we will have every chance of getting a replay or even a win with the Claret Blue army behinnd Martins boys.
Damien, we are all entitled to an opinion mate, it's just that there are people working hard behind the scenes to get things running as quickly as possible. What happened under the previous chairman (or what didn't happen at all) has to be turned round quickly to pull in some of those wavering supporters who are waiting for something to happen. Why can't you just give it your initial support as a Villan and then just say 'I told you so' if it goes wrong? Something we as supporters are usually very good at!!!
There are things the club should be doing and the things the club shouldn't be doing. They are Americans and they will soon learn and are expected to make mistakes. They'll also soon learn that the muppet advisor that suggested a 'new song' should be discarded and they will start to soon pay proper money and get the right people in.
While I have no probelm in fully supporting what I think is positive this 'new song' for the players to come running out to and the fans to sing is a joke. We'd be the laughing stock of the Premiership.
Everyone talks of our history and our proud heritage. I'd personally be quite embrassed that in over 130 years we have to have a song forced on us by the club. If in those 130 odd years we haven't managed to do it ourselves isn't or shouldn't that be telling them soething about our proud history?
The fact is we have songs. The fac is when the supporters want to they can make some noise. The simple fact is if the club is winning matches and challenging the supporters will get behind the club.
The new owner and his people have to concentrate on the football team not every single potential issue; after all haven't they got years to do that?
I get a feeling that you read this site so you'll also know that I fully support Martin O'Neill and wouldn't be surprised if it was three to five years before he started to bring success; I don't know of one other manager that I would have given that to.
Randy Lerner is just someone at our club for the next few years; he has to be questioned and if he's doing something which is clearly stupid he has to be told. It's embarassing this whole song issue; the club shouldn't be getting involved in things like that; but thats just my opinion.
Concetrate on bringing success to Villa Park not a happy clappy singalong atmosphere. The fans will sing when the team starts winning regular matches; fact!
I don't believe that we are meant to sing along to it! The first meeting was called to get us all together and gauge the way forward. The easiest thing to talk about/vote upon was this while the groups got to go back to their members and vote on what they wish to see change. From today's meeting the best 15 questions/ideas are what we will be aiming at. Give it a chance mate and you will see action. I will also mention that there are people who have concerns about this whole idea and will push for a more public way of showing how the rest of the meetings are going to spread the group wider and to ALL sections of supporters and not just this small circle. You up for a bash then?
I'm not having a pop here but on the invite I got thats not waht it said 'to gauge the way forward'. However saying that I refused based on the invite I got then I go and see General Krulak posting something completely different on a forum which was a surprise.
For me it's about winning matches and I don't need to attend meetings to feel important. I'm not saying that is the case for everyone, but if ever there was a definition of lip service these meetings are it.
I understand the concept of the meeting. Bring along three questions/suggestions. Read them out to everyone then each representative then marks his questions 5,3 or 1. The best fifteen are then put to the club. Do I need to explain why this is lip service? I will; you and every other representative already know which is going to get five points so why even bother with the other two and why even bother attending a meeting. Why not just email them in? Lip service (and that is not my phrase) as clear as day!
Like I said for me it's about the football and I believe certain things should be done and decided by the club as it defines who they are. They emply quite a few Aston Villa fans; why not speak to them first?
I'm not up for getting involved unless I'm getting paid I'm afraid. It's my club and I love it dearly (I hope that is known) but why should I get involved ona preofessional level if I'm not getting paid?
They do very little for me and this site is the most popular on the net after the official site (source: www.alexa.com). But kick on; I'm sure you'll be looked ater I just think it ridiculous that they are doing this in an open environment.
Sorry.
What about villa adopting Youll never walk alone or forever blowing bubbles as lots of teams sing the liverpool song
