We dominated the game in the first half. We hit the post three times and had a ball cleared off the line, and then arsenal got a lucky bounce to get their goal. They were the lucky ones today, but considering how it went in the second half, the draw almost feels like a win.

Tonight I'm very proud to be a Villa fan.

Of course neither of us will win the premiership. You lot are one-dimensional (like all O'neil's sides) and we have no defence and overelaborate.

I said to my brother that it would be killer if Arsenal got the first goal---and it nearly was. We were by far the better team in the first half; it was plain for all to see. In the second half, however, Arsenal was unlucky not to go up 2-0. They had two chances (RVP and then Eboue) that, if we're being honest, probably should've been converted. But it's only just that they didn't.

We played well---you can't really dispute that. A point was nothing more than we deserved. I thought Milner, Knight, Reo-Coker, Petrov and Barry all put in rather strong performances.

So here we are: 4th place, 3 points clear of Arsenal. We have a good run of games coming up, and we need to take the results. If we do, I can't see Arsenal surpassing us.

You dont get it, do you? Wenger wasnt talking about the game today, but the season as a whole. Even West Brom could have a good run, but they'd still wouldnt win the league.

The team we put out today was pathetic. Injuries and suspensions aside, it was never the strongest option available. But that's been Wenger this season - don't strengthen, don't play the young players you insist are world class, persist with the very very average 'squad' players that are now somehow first choice.

Villa played well and IMHO were the better team. I'm not sure if you'll manage to keep it up all season (given your squad is around the same size as ours) but who knows.

Yes it was a penalty, it was a needless & reckless challenge that ruined an excellent game for Gallas.

What made the penalty more frustrating was the GA was going nowhere (with no support)and with Toure and Sanga covering the middle. Its those sort of errors that have been happening for the last 2 seasons:

Clichy v Birmingham (was not a penalty but if they's cleared the ball it would not have mattered).

Gallas hand ball at Old trafford.

Clichy/Almunia v Spurs.

We make mistakes when we have leads and that shows a lack of killer instinct that we used to have.


No i have my AFC rant out the way, I thought Villa played very effectively. Should have had the game sewn up by half time, but you can't argue that we were the better side in the second half and could have also killed the game off.

My worry for you is if you get 5 or 6 injuries. I know you were missing Laursen (& Ceullar but he is 3rd choice). It was your gaffers decision to play NRC at RB, i believe you had young at LB and Shorey on the bench.

When you consider we were missing: Djourou, Walcott, Fabregas, Rosicky, Eduardo, Adebayor (and for some reason left Clichy on the bench). I think a point is a good result.

Would you have been able to match up without Agbonlahor, Carew, Young, Barry, Laursen, Milner and Petrov.

This is where your problems lie. If you stay injury 3, you will put up a great battle for the top 4. However i think if you were in our situation now, you'd be like Pompey (despite spending a lot more Money than us).

Football is down to luck, this is luck in specific games, luck with injuries, luck with decisions.

Basically at this stage in the season all this talk of who will finish where is hot air. No-one knows what will happen and we can only talk about it at the end of the season. For now Villa are 4th in the PL table with half the season gone, everyone must admit that is an achievement.

Who knows what will happen over the next 19 games, we will all have to have this argument next year to find out.

Being who he is, he was rather straight forward with his answer. Aston Villa as with Arsenal would find it difficult to win with MU, Chelsea and Liverpool being the top teams at the moment. As Arsenal usually is, wenger's words were targeted by the media to create animosity towards the club. That has been the agenda of the media all this while. If you were to analyse every single interview, the media posed a very simple and straightforward answer to wenger. Before you knew it, the next day all his words were twisted and turned.

So my suggestion is .... don't be played by the media....

Neither Aston Villa nor Arsenal has a chance of winning the Premier League. What was Wenger to say when he was asked about Arsenal chances? Of course, being a manager, you've to instill belief in your players by saying what is necessary... what is needed to boost the morale.

Everyone knows that Wenger is a good manager, so is Martin. But just don't let your emotion to be played again and again by the media....just enjoy the football that you've always love....

Realistic Arsenal Fan....

Well played Villa....game of two halves. Villa desperately unlucky not to be winning at HT, but then were quite fortunate in their eventual comeback. I think both teams will be reasonably happy with a draw all things considered. Not sure it was a penalty, but not going to start complaining about luck.

Actually Villa have played better against us than anyone else this season by a distance, and have team perfectly constructed to play against us...strongest where we are weakest. For the rest of the season, a lot depends on the Jan transfer window and injuries. The arsenal squad is pretty decimated at the moment, and we have half a team missing. As a gooner I am gutted as for 40-75 mins my lot played as we know we can, and looked to be cruising (ish - with our back 4 anything is possible).

maybe so - and that's fair enough to say as an opinion. Its just the bollocks that goes with it which is just untrue I can't stand. With Martin Laurson, Freddie Bouma, King Carlos and Jon Carew playing we would have won today easily in my opinion. You have some great players but are not playing as team and it's hard to see how this will change - but I could be wrong

If you were to analyse every single interview, the media posed a very simple and straightforward answer to wenger. Before you knew it, the next day all his words were twisted and turned.

So my suggestion is .... don't be played by the media....

Neither Aston Villa nor Arsenal has a chance of winning the Premier League. What was Wenger to say when he was asked about Arsenal chances? Of course, being a manager, you've to instill belief in your players by saying what is necessary... what is needed to boost the morale.

Everyone knows that Wenger is a good manager, so is Martin. But just don't let your emotion to be played again and again by the media....just enjoy the football that you've always love....

So I think that was a very big statement today.

We were the better team.
Arsenal played really well at times and had a lot of luck.
We had no luck whatsoever.
We created lots of chances.
We drew with one of the supposed big 4 at home and are a little disappointed.
The make shift back four looked pretty good.
We were 2-0 down and nobody believed it was over.
This result 2 years ago would have been the highlight of our season, now it is just an indication of where this club is going.

Today we dropped another 2 points in the title race. We deserved to win, but we didn't have the luck today (things evening themselves up a little after the West Ham and Everton games). However, had we had a striker to support Gabby today, Arsenal would have been dispatched. We were unlucky not to have won, but we could have transcended bad luck had MoN done the obvious thing and signed one in the summer.

It is remarkable that I'm saying this, but we really ought to be top, and in with a very strong chance of winning the title. As it is, we have an outside chance, depending on what happens in the transfer window, not only with us but with the other title contenders. We aren't top because of MoN's failiure to buy a striker. But we could so easily be top because MoN has, in virtually all other respects, done a great job.

Arsenal I think have only the remotest of chances of finishing in the top 4, and I certainly can't see them finishing above us, unless we suffer an unlikely and protracted injury crisis, or they spend a huge amount of money in January, which is also unlikely. In fact, without Fabregas, Arsenal may even be overhauled by Everton and finish sixth.

As for ratings, I think no-one particularly stood out - though Luke Young was quietly impressive, and Reo-Coker was manfully so. I thought Friedel was our worst player, and managed to make himself look particularly small for the Diaby goal. Deserving of mention is MoN giving Barry the armband. A moment of great significance I can't help but feel.

I was riled up and then I thought, sod it, at the end of the day it is banter about a game and I live by the rule that shit happens and today the shit that stopped Villa was the woodwork!

What a game and what a finish. Thoroughly deserved the point although it could be argued that we should have had it won by half time!

As for this being "Villa's cup final," "not beating their weakest team in years" and it "NEVER being a penalty" etc. I say this ...

1) - We never called it our cup final, it was a massive game for both clubs and we could argue that you lot saw it as more of a cup final by your reaction following the second goal. Perhaps I'm just a bit shocked by the noise considering how long it took for the Arsenal fans to get behind their lot.

2) - While it may not be your strongest team, it was by no means our strongest. Laursen, Cuellar, Carew missing and only 1 up front. Real substance in that comment.

3) - Never a penalty? Well whether or not Agbonlahor was going on to score or not, Gallas went in from behind and didn't take the ball. The last time i checked, a tackle from behind was a foul and a booking.

4) - As for the officials not being on your side, thats just rubbish. Diaby should have gone for a second foul and the ref bottled that one ... there was a foul leading up to the opening goal etc. Personally i thought the ref had a shocker all round for both sides and didn't let the game flow.

Finally, bring your top guns back (Walcott, Fabregas, Adebayor etc.) as last time i checked we beat them 2-0 at the Emirates just a few months ago.

Enough of the ranting, today proved again the bottle that the Villa have this season and although it wasn't the win that we could have achieved, we've took another knock on the door to the top four and again come from behind.

Also, I'd like to add that Reo-Coker and Knight gave 110% today and although some argue that Knight isn't good enough, it's refreshing to see a player who knows he's not a first team regular and still goes out, performs, doesn't sulk and then shows his love for the club.

I had Villa for 2-1. I got 11-1 at William Hills cos i was sure Arsenal would score first in the first half and then we'd do em in the second...nearly ! What a bastard !
It should have been 4-1 Villa by half time if we'd have had a bit of luck. I said the other day that I didn't want Zat Fright to play and until that great finish at the end, he did little to change my mind, but fair play to him for finishing in style.
I think we all know that a little bit of quality is needed to add to the squad before we can kick on. I suggest that today's result was carved out of sheer hard work and determination rather than skill and quality. Maybe we need to get the balance right somewhere and that will start happening next week.
I don't understand why some gooners are coming on here having a pop, they are usually level headed and valued visitors to our site. Maybe they are worried about their position ?
If you look at the league table, our statistics so far this season are nearly identical. We are both playing players out of position in order to cope with injuries and lack of squad depth.

Nobody has said we are the new Real Madrid, but 4 points to your one and 4th place I do like. We made you look like Bolton in the first half today and we'll only get better come January with some more reinforcements. With the size of your club and the calibre of your team you should have a lot more strength and depth, we are in the 2nd year of a 5 year plan and we are already looking lethal.

In my opinion i would give him a high 7 or a 8. He played some really good balls today and his work rate going forward and back was exceptional in my opinion. You wouldnt see most right wingers track back and work for the team like that.

Just got to come on here to apologise to Zat Knight. I had said previously that if he was playing we wouldn't win, which we didn't but today he didn't fuck up and he scored the equaliser. With his left foot. so soz, Zat. Up the Villa.

Up until today I was enjoying the season without really believing that we could break into the top 4. However, after seeing us outplaying Arsenal for two thirds of the game it's clear that we are good enough. All what i can say about this game is soccer was infair aston villa was the best since the first minuts they deserv to score in three times but was unfair soccer they conceed a goal in the first hal then another in the 2nd but they were brave to have a point at the last moments of the game.
