I left the couch for a few moments last night to get a celebratory beer from the fridge and when I got back Manchester City had scored. How gutted was I?
Not gutted enough to jump on here as I'd just opened another beer but after waking up and reading the paper and figuring out it wasn't a nightmare I've decided to vent some frustration.
What went right, not wrong yesterday? We got a goal before City and all we had to do was hold on for 20 minutes and we would have been through but we couldn't even do that. Did we win a header during the match? Did we control the midfield or any aspect of the match? Did we create enough chances? Does Milan Baros look like he's becoming another average striker after less than a season at Villa Park?
I could easily blame the manager but I'm not going to, not directly anyway, but what do they do in training all week? I've not seen any difference from his first game in charge. Where is the thought and composure, where was the fight?
One positive is we're still in the FA Cup and we play better away from home. This afternoon we'll find out who we may be playing in the next round if we can beat Manchester City - I'm hoping for Blues or Charlton because we can beat those two teams because they are as inconsistent as us this season. If we get Liverpool or Chelsea our boys won't even show up for the replay.
We're still in it so I've got some hope but play Phillips and Moore next time out and I think we'll have a better chance - after all O'Leary wants Phillips to be our Teddy and Teddy is a big match player!
