Are Villa poised to pounce?

Aston Villa have had a ?4m bid for Gabriel Fernandez Arenas of Athletico Madrid turned down with the Spanish side insisting the player is not for sale.
Gabi, a creative midfielder, was loaned out to Getafe last season but it is believed he is in contention for a regular first team place this season and new coach Carlos Bianchi is not interested in seeing the player move on.
Maybe Villa have got the 'substantial funds' announced earlier in the year and maybe we will see a additional player or two join before the end of the month?
