In my Diagnosis of the game on Sunday I suggested that the electric second-half form of Gabby Agbonlahor shouldn't divert Martin O'Neill from seeking a further striker to swell our goalscoring ranks before the window closes. And I stick to that view.
But, with the immediate urgency of solutions at full back seemingly sorted, the more I think about it the more I think there is a case for Randy Lerner to pay silly money for a good right winger.
The daft thing is, I'm not over-bothered who it is. I'd take Milner, Wright-Phillips or Lennon - even at a very tight pinch Pennant - but tactically I think we need a right winger and I think we need one now.
The reason I'm less concerned about the choice itself is this: it's all about Ashley Young. Ash is getting better and better. His confidence is growing, his movement and overall game intelligence is increasingly effective, and his final delivery is starting to become devastating.
All that in a side which is starting to routinely attack down the left flank. Now all credit to Young. HF and Man City may have read the fact that Villa are heavily dependent on the left side in attack, but - supported by the left-leaning tendencies of Gareth Barry - Young was still far too good for both defences. (That kind of calls into question some of the claims which have been made about the quality of Korluka, by the way, as well).
I have a feeling that better sides than City will have the necessary armoury to shut down Villa's left and stifle our attacking ambition down that side.
So if we want to see the very best of Ashley Young, I think opposing defences need not to know which wing the ball is going to. Stretch a defence across the field because it has to cover all options, and Young has more space to exploit. Given what we've seen of the lad so far, that could be quite sensational.
Frankly, I don't care which one it is - just bring him in. Milner, Wright-Phillips, Lennon...who cares? They're all fringe England players with smashing potential who could do well under "winger coach of them all" John Robertson. The important thing is that we can set a team up to stretch an opposition defence from touchline to touchline.
Get your chequebook out, Randy, and pay over the odds. I have a feeling that if you do, this lad Young will prove to be something very special indeed.

I agree Doc, Ashley Young is something special.....certainly living up to his name of 'The English Ronaldo' given to him by MON when he was bought at a record fee.
Monday morning thinking back over the game the previous evening, I couldn't help but think how lucky we are to have him. He could easily be in a 'Big 4' team but he seems to love it at Villa, just like the majority of our players...credit to Martin!
An additional right winger will serve us well and we will become a formidable force in attack!
Up the Villa!!
milner will grow into a 10 million pound player just like ashley young has,And it is not a case of randy getting his cheque book out,It is out and always has been since he took over,It is a question of when and how o`neill chooses to use it.
Doc,
I could not agree more. We are crying out for a RW. Not many players are capable of playing multiple positions and frankly none of our central midfielders can do a job for us out there.
The main thing is Milner will fit well into our style and he too has the ability to play left sided and him and Ashley swapping over will cause havoc with even the better sides in the league
I don't agree. I think if we are going to progress we need an defensive midfielder who can sit in front of the back four. Petrov is tidy but can't tackle, NRC can tackle but is not tidy. Barry if he stays can't do that job. I have to say I thought when Hargreaves and Barry played together for England it looked a good combination.
I really think MON is going to have to sort things out soon because we can't carry on shipping goals the way we have been.
Spot on DOC. Personally I'd love to see Wright-Phillips at the Vila. A RW signing WILL happen, MON has not let us down and it will be sorted before Sept 1st. (Not forgetting a CM & CF also) UTV
Not bad Doc, you are actually talking sense, the only question mark i have is over "silly money"!
We haven't so far spent great amounts on one player and i cant see that happening now. If in the other hand you mean an inflated amount for a player then yes i think we will have to do that.
MON knows his team and sees where it needs personnel, so i am sure that he will do the business.
If we spend silly money on a right winger i hope we spend it on someone at a level above milner swp etc both of these are still developing and it wont be until a year or so we would see any pay back milner lacks pace and has to get better crossing swp has pace but cannot cross
lets look into europe for this one and get star quality who can deliver this season for 4th place
Yes Doc, we need a right winger badly, if we can get someone like SWP(My first choice) and a top striker then not only will Young become a better player but the whole team will be something different and then we will really be competeing for a CL place
I totally agree - RW is a must before the deadline - but more important is Barry - If he goes we need a replacement - he should either sign a contract or lets get a replacement.
What happened to De la Red...not heard anything either way. I presume this is dead???????
I couldn't agree with you more Doc. I would love to see SWP on the right wing and breaking with that real pace that he has. Would open up so much space for Young.
AVMark i agree with you too about needing a defensive CM. Haven' seen DLR play but maybe he could be the sitting CM leaving Barry get forward more? If we don't i woud prob prefer NRC in the centre winning the ball and just giving it to Barry to use.
kightly looked very impressive for the under 21's on the right wing i wouldn't mind him, i don't think the clubs wan't to sell the players mentioned above, so he might be worth a punt.
Liked the look of Kightly for the under 21s last might
Got a bad feeling that we'll not get a quality right winger in on time... Please prove me wrong MON - it's not in my nature to be pessimistic ;D
I hope we bring in a right winger - Lennon would be my choice. He's young and has something to prove after not playing enough at Spurs.
We definatley need another striker! Somebody to keep gabby and big john on their toes!
I think the winger should be milner, he just seems the best all rounder! I don't think i'd like SWP, i believe he's around 25-26 at the moment and he's played barely any football in the last 4 seasons!
Milner offers far better options than SWP. He has a better all round game and would strengthen up our defence on the right side as well.
philbob88 I agree mate, SWP's overall game is not to the standard of Milner's. I admit I haven't watched either of them very much but what I have noticed is that Milner's work rate and commitment to the cause for Newcastle is far greater than SWP's work rate and commitment for Chelski. I think Milner would fit in perfectly to the Villa team, I reckon SWP would be high maintainence!!
I totally agree. In my view the side would then have a balanced look.
My midfield would be from left to right:
Young
Barry (Holding Midfield)
Sidwell
The New Man
Another advantage GB would be playing in his strongest position. (As he does with England). At the moment MON has too push him forward as Petrov and NRC just have not got that ability.
Of course this assumes GB is still on board at the end of August.
I agree and think you cant miss out quaresma-awesome!
Great article ... on a slightly different tact its fantastic to see where we have come in the last two years. In Europe, challenging the top four, some of the best players in the premier league ... and above all the most content and happy team and club from top to bottom (ok the Barry saga aside). I think we need to step back and feel the pain and misery we felt under O' I'm so important' Leary to feel the pleasure today. Oh its so good to be a Villa fan .......
Oh come on, the teams rubbish and MON/RL really need to be spending some serious money to be top dogs. My glass is not full to the brim just yet!.... ;) ;D
Agree with your post, but then I think everyone knows a right winger is our #1 priority now.
However anyone that has watched all the pre season games or at least the highlights would surely agree with me that routledge has looked like a class act? I think he's stepped up his game and I believe based on pre-season and the number of assists he got, he deserves a start.
StickyAV
But look at the quality Routledge has been playing against. I think he should get a chance - I'm baffled why he didn't get a run on Sunday - but what if it doesn't work out with him and it's September 2nd?
I think we need someone quick .. but just opinion.
I think Routledge looked good too. Remember guys there's another eleven days yet. You know what MON's like. My money's still on Milner though.
SPOT ON DOC,WE NEED A RW ALRIGHT.BUT AND A VERY BIG BUT,SWP WILL NOT LEAVE LONDON,AND KEEGAN INSISTS MILNER IS GOING NOWHERE. I AGREE WE SHOULD GO LOOKING IN EUROPE FOR SOME GOOD QUALITY. YOU WONT PAY AS MUCH. IVE ALWAYS SAID SOME ENGLISH PLAYERS OF GOOD QUALITY ARE OVER-PRICED .
Last post with all capitals on this page .. others will be deleted.
striker hernan crespo ;) FREE
rm milner cause of his cross. i would say shaun wright philipps cause he gets a few goals tho. I dnt really mind.
bring in swp or milner and still keep faith in routledge
Quit shouting!!
Milner gotta be it for me. Stronger defensively, which will be important when we tuck in and play Young as playmaker. £10m is a joke though. Thats papertalk. £7m and he's ours eventually. They need the cash. Like this talk about Kightly too.
It is quite correct- We simply don't want to become too predictable and always go down the left. We need a right winger who can go past defenders. I think Milner is more consistant with crossing but SWP is better at running at defenders, so personally go for SWP, he seems to score more as well.
That really would balance out the midfield and I do believe we can knock Liverpool out of that 4th spot.
we DON'T need another striker. we have carew and gabby up front who could both, quite easily, score 20 a season. If one of them should get injured, we have harewood who is inspirational from the bench and didn't play enough last season in my opinion. so to say we need another striker is unfair on gabby and carew because they played fantastic yesterday and nearly always do. But it is most unfair on harewood, because to me he could easily fit in to the starting 11 and is too good to sit on the bench every week. so really if we get another striker harewood will leave for first team football. so we will have this new striker and carew/gabby up front. and carew and gabby will be pi55ed off at been rotated, so all this new striker will do is disrupt the team. WE DON'T NEED HIM.
I agree the balance of the side wasn't right. Like you Doc I can see us scaring teams senseless if we could attack at speed down the right like we can down the left.
However I agree with Damian we really need to see Routledge play the role against a reasonable side before making a decision on what we need to buy. If he does a job we don't need to spend silly money just get cover/option that is available for sensible price (Milner), BUT if he isn't up to it, then I'd spend whatever it takes to prise someone pacy away. Lennon would be my preferred choice.
Agree with those saying we need another striker to keep the boys up front honest. Think CM is fine if GB stays, otherwise we'll have to get De La Red.
players id lyk to see at villa:
Milner = £11m
F.Campbell = £6m
Kightly = £4m
TOTAL = £21m
altogether spending over the summer = £54m :D
Dean Ashton = £20m ;D ;D
I've not read many articles i agree more with than this one, spot on! I hope someone prints this out and leaves it on MON's desk!!
Milner for me. Great attitude and good all rounder. He does lack a little pace but that's where I see Routledge coming in. I'm sure he's going to get his chance (perhaps against Stoke) as I think he did enough in pre-season to warrant it. However, I said the same last year about Luke Moore (he scored a bag full last pre-season). It seemed, however, that MON didn't like his attitude or something as he was shipped out. Maybe there's a side to Routledge we don't get to see that MON doesn't particularly like.
Unconvinced about any desperate need for a striker to be honest.
I'm not sure about this theory. I think this was the problem MON tackled last season when teams put two men on Ashley. That's when he pulled Petrov back to behind a midfield 3 with Ashley able to attack down the right or left. Admittedly, you have a valid point about GBs left sided service.
We then need a midfield that can win the ball and pass. GBs talents in this regard are obvious but I do believe that Reo Cocker is underestimated in his ball winning capacity, although his passing can certainly improve. I'm sure Sidwells talents at ball winning and distribution were the reason he was brought in.
If we play this system with an out and out right winger we will not get enough ball to attack. Similarly, if we revert to 4-4-2 and play with 2 wingers we will lose the midfield to teams that play 4-5-1 or 4-3-3.
In his first season with us MON started off playing 4-5-1; if we get an out and out right winger he may go back to this, otherwise, Routledge makes a very good sub to change our balance of attack when needed.
a right winger wud be tops. i personally think we shud forget about any london based winger cos they all hav a hard on for the city an are only interested in the flash an glamour.
i think we need to tighten up the defence, not necessarily wit signings, jus get more smart cos the 2 goals we conceded on sun was dissapointin an we are much better then that.
dont get me wrong, sun was a top game an am delighted wit the win, but little mistakes like that is where we fell down las season. an we hav the defenders to rectify that.
up the villa!!
Schweinstiger!!!!!! Perfect fit.
Would be lovely to land Lennon. That would be havoc, the speed we would pack would run us around Liverpool into 4th. Mind you i dont see this happening before the 1st. I honestly think that the targets for this window have been met, (although im still dreaming about bringing a DLR or Santa Cruz in), however i agree with the any of the fringe players mentioned, (Milner, SWP, Lennon, Pennant), just think that Lennon is the main man, especially if we keep GB. Having him feed wide to Lennon and Young. Stop it.
Martin does like to buy a wild card player for nothing. I can't believe all this summer links with spain and portugal and no players (other then Cuellar from the spl), and the fact MON was in the centre of europe for a few weeks with the bbc. I think it does point to some european talent we already have our our english hub. However MON style is not to spend more then 10-12 mill on a player so everyone who wants that flagship signing i just cant see it happening. We NEED another striker the season is long and Carew struggles with fitness and we are gonna be competing in a lot more competitions this year, Harewood proved to me against hf that he is an impact player. It seems very final but i feel last year he did brilliantly from the bench a battering ram to come on after Carew have given them a right bruising up steps pumped up Marlon.
There was reports of Marlon going if we get another striker i think MON knows this and i think Maloney is going too, so i think replacements for them are being lined up except first team replacements. Not too long too go now, hopefully routledge will come through he was supposed to be the next boy wonder at palace untill he duffed his ankle at spurs and was left to rot.
pie man :) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8) :P :-* :'(
[ im his son]
I would like an up player, a down, an inside and a roundabout player then we can take teams on with increased dimension such as 2cnd and 7th parallel, they will never see it coming.
Cole will be sensationel if we get him!
UTV ;D ;D
That sounds like Salifou to me Taglor!
Just read that Liverpool are planning a £12 million bid for Downing because everyone else is too expensive. I think we should nip in with a cheeky bid, steal Downing from under Rafa's nose and play him on the left with Ash switching to the right. Any takers?
MON must have been reading your post Doc (or did you have inside info of this interbiew Doc?) as there's just been a quoted interview from today published. MON hints at three more signings. Striker, RM and cover at left back! Other sources say RL has set aside another £25 mill for such signings!
I actually think with such further signings and a great team spirit we will end up at the end of the season with a Premiership winning manager in MON. With a couple more decent signings and possibly a bit of tinkering in January we can easily beat any team in the Prem. I won't be dissapointed if we don't win the Prem or even 4th (well I will a little bit!)but I now think that with the rub of the green this team could actually look at that goal. After all the other big 4 are all having a bit of change around. Man U won't win the Prem this year...and I'll stand to that one! ;)
The most likely option is SWP as he won't play as many games for chelski as milner would for newcastle. Also newcastle are watching what they buy so if they were to sell they'd need a replacement lined up, Unlike chelski who could just go and buy Queresma. Lennon won't be sold as ramos is playing him and bentley on either wing. Pennant has good cross but a bad attitude. Also Kightley is Championship quality. If Villa are serious about breaking the top 4 we need more ambitions targets than some of the names mentioned. I Also agree we need another striker but who ?.
Not signing a right winger, hmm seems like last year with us not signing a right back..will last years right back debate be this years right winger debate.Id quite like Downing at Villa Park, Young can swap to the right.
I totally agree (although i'm not a big fan of milner nor Lennon who I don't think can cross the ball) and that's why i liked it when maloney played last season, it meant Ash and Shaun could swap wings when they wanted to switch it up, and wasn't there a brief period at the end of last season where Young played in front of the midfield 3? Maybe we'll bust that little trick out again this season when we need to switch it up.
Anyway, I ramble. One RW player I would LOVE to have is Sergio Garcia of Real Zaragoza, he was pretty much the only shining light of their season last year and he even terrorized the defensive might of teams like Real Madrid. Oh, and did I mention he can work as back up for up front too? I'm probably dreaming though because I'm not sure he speaks English which I'm guessing automatically crosses him of MON's radar ... ah well, one can dream.
Looks like you pre-empted the Birmingham Mail Doc! LINK
£25m spree on a RW & striker - the Mail says it's Milner and Santa Cruz (Christmas would come early for the Villa if he signed!)
sorry guys, but was listening to talksport last night. Ian Wright made it clear that - against his advice, probably to join portsmouth - Shaun is staying at Chelski. Ironic if they then loan him to Portsmouth ... :(
Pompy can't loan him a they already have a Chelsea player on loan for the season and its not allowed to have more then one player on loan from the same club. Maybe we should offer to bring him on loan first to see if it works out.
portsmouth cannot loan swp cuz you can only loan one player from the same team. portsmouth already loan ben sahar from chelski.
sam_villa 1 - I like Harewood but he made no impact in the pre-season game at walsall and the game in iceland - not great opossition. I think MON knows he is better as an impact player and think we need another top striker to compete on all fronts. Don't think Doyle is the answer at £8m or more though
Great Point and great read Doc.. ;)
I wouldn't pay 8 million for Kevin Doyle. But at 4 or 5 million, I would welcome him into the fold. Who seriously wouldn't want Doyle as a squad player? He isn't Santa Cruz, but he could do a job off the bench.
My No1 target to get would be Santa Cruz, and if that means you've gotta bid 20mill to get him then so be it...
Picture this....You want a new pair of shoes that you really want. They cost say £50 (yes I spend very little on shoes) but you go for second best and buy the £15 ones down the local shoe shop. However, you never hardly wear the £15 shoes because your never that happy with them and you stick with your old favourites and the £15 shoes stay at the bottom of the wardrobe.
Therefore what's the point in saying someone would be ok as a squad player if they only cost us £5 million. That £5 million would be wasted if they are not going to be utilised. I'd rather spend £15 million and get the one that should get the use intended for. We have a couple of squad players in Nathan and Marlon, so it's the fifty quid shoes we need to replace John and Gabby should they need to be subbed or replaced through injury.
why cant i see the comments!
It sounds like it is going to be tough. Blackburn insist Santa Cruz is going nowhere (maybe its just to get a better price), Keegan insists Milner (my first choice for a winger) is going nowhere (and if he does there will be holy hell in Newcastle). Madrid doesn't seem inclined to sell De La Red.
As for striker, are three senior pros and Nathan Delfuenso enough to get us through the season where (hopefully) we will have three good cup runs and make a run at the top 4. I am not so sure.
Part of me wonders how much of this might be left for Jan. where if we are still in Europe and the Carling Cup as well as in or near the top 4, it might be easier to get the players that we've talked about.
apparently o'neill wants 3 more players in but admits one or two may go
get in swp clearly a better player than milner santa cruz or even podolski why not as long as its not kevin doyle and cover for rb steve finnan anyone
Yeah but you don't buy £50 shoes and keep them in the wardrobe. We've already got 2 pairs of £40 shoes that are comfortable. We don't want to be leaving them in the wardrobe without reason. I say get a pair of £100 shoes in, wear them all the time and alternate the 2 £40 pairs as appropriate to the function we are attending.
Personally I like Santa Shoes.
Striker is a bit tricky, with Carew and Gabby just signing new deals and popping in 4. While I'd love to sign that automatic, 20-goal starter, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be more likely to sign an able deputy, someone who's not necessarily expecting to walk into the side, but can cover ably and play some cup ties.
RW...That's where the real money should be spent. And here I'd go for the best player Villa could acquire. Milner, good all-rounder, workhorse; SWP, atrocious final ball and lots of running himself into holes...Can't offer a good opinion on Lennon or Pennant.
But ideally, I'd like someone of more quality than these if MON's looking to spend another £25m. A real, threatening RW and Villa would be scary.
nan you flash man....I thought only Goldie had enough dosh to afford a pair of hunded quid shoes? ;)
Andyanarchist I think I agree with you sort of! I hate the phrase squad player - I would rather take my chances with the reserves. I think the answer has to be either we take a chance on an up and coming player (there's a few at the Wolves) or we wait until the right player becomes available. A lot of people don't like this but that may be a few transfer windows yet.
Players are not machines. They have personalities. Someone said MON is an average manager recently except during game time. I couldn't disagree more. The prime attribute of any manager in any field is to recruit the right blend of people to work together in a team system. I believe the reason MON takes his time so much is that he is a fantastic manager. Every player who has played under him says the same thing. He is not going to go and get a player unless that individual fits into the team.
For that reason Doc I think your sentiments are completely wrong. It's not about recruiting a right winger it's about recruiting a person who is right for our club at this time. MON is never going to buy a player based upon a tournament showing or a set of DVDs. If the guy doesn't fit he doesn't fit regardless of how good he is.
I am very pleased that players are now being rewarded with new contracts to reflect what they have been achieving. The cynics will say it's about protecting transfer values but I can see MON's logic. If players like SWP don't want to get off their arse and play for a club like Villa unless we pay them a sh*t load of money then I say NO! We don't want you, stay where you are you lazy b*stard and pick up your dosh and medals for sitting on your arse - don't bring that attitude here.
balckburn do not wanna sell and they have just signed sant cruz' brother so they can play together. it just aint gonna happen.
doyle is piss poor and pants. not a step in the right direction at all.
we have signed decent players this season. now we need to push the boat out and sign a couple of magic players. that will give us the lift off and smack those scouse tossers around the pitch.
I can see swp signing if he has any sense anyway. but nothing happended in spain!!or did it?
Doyle is a pair of flip flops. Milner leather sandles. I think we have a couple of great outfits in the wardrobe at the moment. But you dont wanna keep wearing the same outfit over and over everyday, it will get worn out.
I'm also baffled why we're not playing Routledge, as I thought he was bought solely for that purpose. But, I suppose, even then that doessn't necessarily cover us. I like Milner abnd Lennon, but I think SWP is a terrible crosser and Pennant a waste of a good player (plus, I don't like dealing with Liverpool). Maybe it's time for MON and Randy to look abroad?
True story here....A couple of weeks ago I bought a cracking paid of those blue suede adidas samba trainers off ebay. 14 quid they cost me! In the cool stakes they are sub zero, but I digress....Back to the plot!
I then thought it could be a good idea for Rafa to put some of his players and the odd used bit of Liverpool FC office furniture on beay to raise some funds for new players. After all, they are the poor relations of the Premiership.....Let's wait for the scousers to start abusing me now...bring it on! ;) ;D
Doc, i agree with you, we do need to break the bank for a right sided winger. But what is breaking the bank? In my eyes i think it means obtaining an influential player by spending 10mil and beyond. My question is, as we reportedly have "around 25mil" to spend, would you rather the majority of that spent on a winger, or should it be spent on this , up until now ,elusive 20 goal striker?
ive watched routledge a couple of times and think he is far better than pennant so why isnt he given a chance. milner would be a good signing and very gettable, newcastle want 10mil. santa cruz will stay at blackburn,so why dont we wait for the cream instead of buying 2nd rate. and doyle is not the answer.
so you guys actually want us to spend 'silly money'?
They will spend a lot of money on players. Davies, Cuellar and Ashley 'who needs ronaldo' Young all cost a lot. 2/3 are definitely going to be at the next world cup, and the other almost caused a violent revolution in Glasgow. When MoN pays out you know it's worth it.
MoN doesn't spend silly money. Two years ago I was saying we should 'do a spurs' and buy up the most promising british talent as a way of breaking the top four hegemony, grand, we need to spend like that but spurs proved you cant buy success anymore.
Abramovic is the exception, and he is one of the worlds biggest crooks. I know russian "businessmen" who say abramovic is a good guy because "he didn't kill that many people".
The sinwanarta (sp) fella at man city is even worse. the game is rotten, we can still have pride.
Since then spurs did things like spend 17mil on bent and it went tits up. A lot of fans would be delighted if we made that kind of 'silly' decision. No billionaire is squeaky clean but it looks like we have a good egg. Anyone that moans about him spending money on art and charity is a tool.
that said, if we spent 30m on a player i would prance around like a schoolgirl. fk the poor! hahahaha
askpaul68...can we stick to footwear analogies please, including dairy products at this stage is just going to cloud the issue and get people really cheesed off! ;D
sorry for putting my foot in it ;)
Nice one Paul ;D
Villa786....Pompey can not loan SWP because already loaned Sahar from Chelsea and Premier league rules say a club can't loan 2 players from same club during same season. Would prefer Milner to SWP or Lennon but Joaquin to any of them.
It would be nice to get in Lennon for me? He just needs to sharpen up his game a bit like how Ashley did when he came to villa! He could become brilliant i also would welcome Milner with open arms he has come into form just at the right time to buy aswell! They may want Marlon/Maloney in the deal you never know what goes on..........
See how i never made one comment about de la Read about him but i dont really know who he is 'Coming to villa? I never believed it! Villa don't buy 10m plus players
Keef:
you should really read peoples comments before posting ;)
andyanarchist:
Im a peasant compared to A.Testoni Norvegese 8)
First time I've read your comments and you make sensible sence. I'd like to add That DIEGO RIBAS currently playing for werder Berlin is waiting to be the one of the most exciting players to complete This Newley evolved attacking impotence of the VillaFC. This South american influence will be the catalyst for Glory (With Class). R stands for Randy!!!!! relishing Ribas. If you knew what I know he'll be your Man tommorow.
The Law (As a man you are Him, in him is the man")
why do we need a rw when we have the perfect formular to play 4 3 3 its easy to name the 6 as we stand barry, sidwell, nrc, gabby big john and young
with gabby and young switchin wings pulling defence all over the place
lennon would be great - he basically needs to learn a bit better distribution but he's got the pace, the Britishness (not mine, but MON's seeming pre-requisite) and under MON I think could be brilliant. Again though, 2nd city good enough? I doubt it.
does darren fletcher tickle anyones fancy... awesome work rate and pretty decent on and with the ball... im sure he would be reasonably cheap aswell
i said week ago i had good info that swp wants to gve it one more go at chelski and ive not got any thing to change my mind but would luv to see eitherlennon or milner come to villa has anyone got a rough idea how much spurs want
In's
20 million 4 Joe Cole
18 million 4 Santa Cruz
yes plz =)
n hu cares bowt crappy Maloney, let him go!
I see D Cisse may be going to Sunderland??? We should be trying to be bringing him to Villa Park, MON has missed a trick there, Cisse, yes he has had his injuries but he is still a very good player, he was superb at L'pool and is Premier League proven, a much better alternative to Doyle..Mark my words Cisse will bang the goals in at Sunderland
SWP is a fcuking mug, its always the same with him......one more season...one more season, oh well fcuk off then if you enjoy playing 15games a season, he obviously has'nt got the drive or ambition to play a full season of first team football anywhere else
'L' - your comment on Diego Ribas sounds like a nostradamus prediction! do you know something or is it just a suggestion? His stats on Wiki Pedia are pretty good. I would like to see Lennon but he is starting for spurs, I cant believe Joe Cole would come although I would love him in a Villa shirt. . .

didnt stevie g look small holding gareths hand as they come out on pitch, can anyone tell me what happened to the villa boys in the under 21 last night as i missed the first 5 mins of each half
cisse is a hot head just like diouf.... i can just see the riots in sunderland dressing room... with roy keane in the middle
I dont think id like cisse at villa park.
He seems to be high maintanance and hes head drops very quickly when things aint going his way.
Vogra i do agree with you though that he is a damn site better than Doyle.
Any news on the story that we have agreed a fee for falcao?
I completely agree with AVMark about the holding midfielder. Petrov's distribution is why he is in there ahead of Reo-Coker but unfortunately he doesnt have the pace and power to dominate in that position. As for the RW. I disagree that we need a star Ashley Young type player. What we need is someone who as well as being able to play can get box to box with a high level of work-rate. Like Ljungberg used to do, or that new Newcastle guy. Personally though Milner seems to be the right type, from what I have seen, he just isnt productive enough.
I agree, anyone would do at the minute. Ashley Young is amazing, a joy to watch and if we get the right side sorted he could well be the difference of us getting 3 points against Liverpool in a couple of weeks.
Which is for many Villa fans as big a game as Blues would be this year.
watched plasil tonight looked a very good player for 1-2 million untill our barry clattered him
sorry hes sh*te just scored an own goal off our joe cole
Just finished watching the England game (head in hands) fcuking garbage, when will an England manager have the balls to drop Gerrard,Lampard and Rooney, what the hell has Rooney done for England since Euro 2004??...he's a striker, it shows how sh*t we are in midfield when HE has to come back and take the ball off the midfield to create....and how A Young and Gabby can't even get into the SQUAD....well, what can you say!!!!
different manager same old sh*te, are we a good footballing nation or do we beleive we are better than we are, because im starting to think its the latter.
between the Mancs and Chelski we had 11 english men playing in the CL final.
Its hard to understand how the players become shite in a England shirt
Milner please!!! i think hes very underated, he can use both feet has a very good cross and has a tendancy from time to time to score absolute screamers. Hes maybe a bit like Barry, barry was our best player when we were rubbish and now hes our best player when were good i think milner is the same at newcastle if they were to become good he could easily step his game up and show everyone that hes still the best at that club!!
I must agree how awful England were tonight. I'm glad Ash didn't have to play because at least he can't get injured...but Heskey...ffs ! One decent knock on assist to a Wigan goal and he's in !
It's late so this post might not get read as i'm expecting a flurry of threads from Damo tomorrow morning (nothing since Monday mate...are you on holiday...lol ?)
Just a few comments to the above posts:
L....Diego ? yes yes. Been banging the drum for him all summer. What do you know that you can enlighten us about ?
Andyb....Sweinsteiger, i like the sound of him as well, always have done
villasouth....DLR could be our "flagship" signing, we just don't know what Damo knows. I think he'd be good because although he's an international and deffo an exciting signing, he's not yet at prima donna status and probably wouldn't demand massive wages. I think this is the most likely of our European candidates.
SwissVillan...I don't think Downing is good enough full stop and not worth the money they would want for him (English and will be grossly overpriced)
vogra....switching Ashley out to the right permanently to accomodate the above player seems like madness to me
andyanarchist....Bill Howell got the credit for writing about the £25m Randy fund in the Mail. Nuff said, i wonder if he was reading avfcblog the other night ?
By the way, i've got baby blue Adidas Gazelle's, they're mint but cost me 50 nicker though !
fitzy and rob h....NO Kevin Doyle I agree, just not good enough for us now let alone if we have aspirations of getting better ! I reckon SWP would be easier to sign out of all the right wingers mentioned and if he can get the skill back he showed a few years ago would be fantastic for us IMO.
As for Routledge, he did look ok in pre season but i don't think he's good enough really. After all there was still no end product really was there? Harewood looks to me a supersub at best. He hasn't really done himself any favours when he has started.
Milner was good for England U21 last night, scoring a good goal but the one that caught the eye for me was Kightly when he came on second half. A lot of people say how good he is and he did definately look the real deal last night. How about seeing if McCarthy can resist a few bob in the Wolves coffers !
By the way...pprid...England won U21 won 2-1 but only just. Basically, Micah Richards went up at every set piece and the ref and linesman had bets to see how far the opposing keeper would bounce off him. Thats how we got the equalizer anyway !
Our second came with a bit of individual skill from Milner, receiving the ball at the edge of the box, weaving a bit before drilling one into the bottom corner.
After the break Pearce made a lot of changes that were difficult to keep track of but they also had a man sent off so we should have really wiped the floor with them. Kightly hit the bar with a delicious run and chip but nothing spectacular happened after Milners goal.
Gabby had some treatment on the pitch before the game that concerned the commentator on Setanta but he just looked bored on the bench and never likely to come on. He was spotted sitting next to Milner on the bench having a good chat though if that means anything. Maybe Gabby's doing a Stevie G !
Sorry for long post but it's been a while.
UP THE VILLA ;)
Milner and Kightly-young, talented, ambitious, and not full of themselves.
Hey Guy's,
Diego Ribas is the progression that makes this team a LEGACY,its no prediction but its written,to deny this would be mass miss, As there's a formula for every sum, this is our very own Villan. But I must add to this, And truley admit we must demote to promote, making Absolute quality an absolute threshold. NRC,MPtrv are being carried to glory, failure our ultimate story, Their qualities and consistency are short as 75% of their passing a mirage of that fault. we need to replace them as a must, no European title challenging team would purchase them from now to Transfer Window Dusk. Their Honest men, but their positions need Dictating by men that can exppress and oppress with a menace of calm. This would make our attacks an unreadable equation for the opposition As 11 Become 1.
The Law
