Aston Villa plc interim results: Revenue down, future positive

Thursday, 26 January 06, 09:17 AM · Comments (0)

Turnover may be down ?1.3mn. on the same period last year but the second half of the season in football is always better - let's just hope it's a lot better than last year or turnover for the full financial year could be hit.

Aston Villa plc announced interim results for the six months to 30 November this morning which explains the rushed news about the kit deal with Hummel - they needed something positive to tell us that we didn't already know.

In the six months attendance has dropped on average by over 2,000 a match on the same period last season and all this after O'Leary telling us attendance was at a high. Net cash from doing business is good - we've managed a profit of ?2mn. although this was ?4.2mn. for the same period last year.

Doug had this to say in his statement "The last six months have seen mixed results on the field but recent performance is encouraging. The Company remains in a strong financial position and there have been significant developments on a number of commercial fronts. We are looking forward to further progress at the Club both on and off the field."

"We will also continue to explore a prudent and positive outcome for the Club from the current corporate activity which is of major significance for all shareholders and supporters."

You can read the full statement and see the unaudited accounts released this morning for yourself but the two positives are Doug looking at exploring what is best for Aston Villa with Rothschild and the Hummel deal.

Still, no reasons stand out as to why the Comer brothers should not want to proceed and the club isn't in any trouble nor does it have any financial concerns.

Despite what many think of Doug Ellis he runs a tight ship and has done a good job to get Aston Villa where they are today free of debt.
