Back to the future: Leicester or Forest at Villa Park

Saturday, 01 September 07, 07:07 AM · Comments (21)

It's either Leicester City or Nottingham Forest coming to Villa Park in the next round of the Carling Cup. Martin O'Neill was at both and he'll be happy with the draw.

I mean no disrespect to either team but we've got to fancy our chances against lower league and this tournament could be the best hope we have of European football next season.

The match will be played the week commencing September 24th.

Good draw and glad its at home. I go for a 4-0 against Forest win or a 3-0 against Leicester win, i think Maloney will be the hero again.

It'd be nice to play leicester, the O'Neill factor and all that.

We should win this tie and obviosuly I'd prefer Forest because on paper it should be an easier game.

Let's hope we can avoid Premiership opposition as long as possible so we can progress as far as possible and build some belief in the team. And let's not draw Chelsea this year!!

We played Leicester in the same round of this last year, right? We should be able to beat either of these sides and Villa will look to take this competition very seriously, I feel. MArtin O'Neill certainly thinks the cup is important as a route to Europe, which of course it is.

Two nice draws but unfortunate about Leicester's double heart-attack victim.
Anyway, should be an easy game and for once it's at home.

salifou may not have african nations due to the fact togo have yet to qualify, it all comes down togo vs benin next week, togo are on 9pts and benin 8pts, but last match togo lost 4-1 to them, so who knows how itll pan iut

I hope we get Leicester to set up a reunion with Martin O'Neill but The Foxes may also be an easy opponent with the recent exit of Martin Allen. Under Allen the team were playing quite well and apparently there was a great atmosphere in the dressing room. They could be a team in turmoil and I think it would be a great time to play them. Lets hope when (not if) we win the 3rd round tie that we get another lower league team at home so that we have a chance of doing something in this competition. You never know this could be our year and we may be able to attract the higher profile players sooner than expected with European qualification in the bag. We really should have won the Carling Cup a few years ago when we got to the semis but threw it away at the Reebok, let's not make the same mistakes this time and let's hope the top 4 don't take it seriously this year.

Nice to see a home draw. Now we have abit of depth in the squad it looks as though MON may play a cup team and a prem team, that is unless we advance in the cups.

Does anyone know what the ticket pricing will be this season for cup games??

Now lets see how good we realy are at home against "Your coats from Matalan"

I either dreamt this or had a drunken discusion about it,Platini was going to give champions league places to winners of domestic trophies to break the hold the top clubs were having on it. this would mean the smaller clubs would gain finacaily and be able to give more competion to the bigger clubs aswell. Is this old news?

Looking at the 3rd round draws there are quite a few tough matches for the premiership teams..

can only be good for us that some of those are to be gone.

leaving the better teams but also a fair few weaker teams and to be fair we have had it pretty easy so far.. not to say that if we had a thoughy we wldnt have played as well as we did at wrexam against them

but it can all be good and im quite excited about it. would have been a little more excited if we had got another striker before window close but hey as long as moore gets his fair share of games. we could do very well.

GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anyway back to the CC. I think we could have a good time with it this season. I have a feeling that we will get quite far and in the next few years win a cup.

For everyone who said they were disappointed in our recent activity and who we've brought in, all the people slating MON and filling this page with negativity. TAKE A LOOK AT TODAYS GAME AND TELL ME WE DON'T ALREADY HAVE A TEAM FULL OF WORLD CLASS PLAYERS. Now come on here and let me read your praise.. hypocrites.

Outstanding result. Not the prettiest mach ever but again, what does Barry have to do to get a start for england? He was awesome,as was Laursen, he was exposed a couple of times in the first half, but after Jose the genious took their best player and only threat off ( Wright-Phillips) he made light work of Drogba etc. Chelsea could not get a ball in the box, Malouda was awful all dayand if it wasnt for the usual theatrics i wouldnt have known Drogba was on either. Moore and Young when they have a defender one on one are murder down either flank. What a win, i just want to say that we beat Chelsea, without Defoe or any other "big name" signings, we are still yet to unveil two of them. Im so pleased because i was the only Villa supporter in a bar in Fulham so ihad to wait till i got home to let it all out! UTV

Leicester will come at us all guns blazing you can be sure of that but surely we have enough quality to see them off. Judging from the performance on Sunday we'd take out Juventus in the next round if we had to :)
