Ball in the court of Martin O'Neill: Scott Carson is available

Thursday, 15 November 07, 07:28 PM · Comments (11)

Liverpool have as good as told Aston Villa that Scott Carson can stay as long as the club pay what Liverpool want for the goalkeeper, thought to be in the region of £10 million.

It's not really a lot of money for a player you'd hope can play for another ten seasons and when you consider Sunderland paid that for Craig Gordon, it looks like a bargain.

At the time, I was hoping Villa signed Gordon but Hearts wanted the money and not a loan deal for one season, despite Villa willing to pay some cash and as good as confirming the deal would happen after one season. However, after watching a couple of his matches, I'm quite pleased we got Carson instead.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez said today "At the moment we are concentrating on our own team and our own competitions, but Villa can decide if they want to keep the player. We have Pepe, Charles Itandje and David Martin as goalkeepers so we can manage the situation OK."

So, the ball is very firmly with the club on doing the deal for Carson. There are no budgets so this should just be a formality, as long as Martin O'Neill is convinced that Carson is the player to play in goal for Aston Villa for the foreseeable future.

Yeah! Buy him, I say. Tommy has been making some pretty negative noises again recently, so we really do need to tie Carson down asap. 10m will seem like small beer in a years' time, especially when compared to CG.

I Think MON will keep him because he looks like the future england number 1. and has years ahead of him.

Well when alot of us were angry with not getting Gordon most of us said that if we didnt get him the only player we really felt that would better it was Carson and it looks like we will get him.

£10Mn isnt that much in todays market and if you consider he has at least another 10 seasons in him its a bargain.

I know alot of us moaned over the summer about the transfers MON made he has done some good things. It may not have been the perfect signings but you have to take the good with the bad.

at least barry wont be burned out or injured for the boro' game.

can anyone tell me whats the big deal with carson, fine hes a solid keep bu ti havent seen him pull off any wonder saves for villa, anything hes stopped any other keeper would have stopped. (hed a good save against brum but it was straight at him)

10 million for a a reserve team keeper thats outlandish. we spend too much as a club and recieve too little 4m harewood, 8 million reo-joker, and 1.5 mill back for crouch, 2 mill for vassell, 2 mill for ridge, we're a disastrous club when it comes to the transfer market, good thing we produce our best talent.

surely 10 million is 2 much for a keeper when cech cost 7 million.

I think it shows how well Carson has progressed with his to-be first start for England tomorrow. At Charlton he was constantly overlooked, now he's at a team on the up he will be in the spotlight more and those England chances will come.

It's a shame most players use transfers as a way to play international games. Sod England is my message!

Benitez is going to let Carson leave. He's always very careful what he says and if he comes out and says he's Villa can decide whether they want to keep him, it means he is ready to sell. He's a great keeper and would be fantastic buy for the Villa I think, question is how much do Liverpool want? £8m-plus??

Sign him hes top notch no silly errors so far. Our other keepers are capable of some howlers and hes only 22 there 10 years of good football ahead of him. 10 mil is peanuts for a future england number 1.

Scott Carson would be a good keeper for aston villa, ever since he joined of loan he has been good but has made some silly mistakes, 10mil would be ok for him ;D
