The transfer window has barely just opened but rumours are starting to dry up; mostly because we've been linked to pretty much everyone and it's just a case of now waiting for things to happen.
A few things have been mentioned in the papers today though; notably that Red Rafa is most certainly after Gareth Barry and that Martin O'Neill isn't interested in Scott Carson at $12mn.
You all know my views on Carson and I think for $12mn. it's not such a bad price, but I'm sure Martin O'Neill knows what he's doing.
Interestingly, on the Gareth Barry front, the club are still pushing the Barry DVD and we're not hearing anything from the captain, which does suggest that he wants to leave.
I'm not sure how the supporters will react if he does go. Martin O'Neill has basically resurrected his career and at the first real opportunity he's leaving.
Still, it's all speculation at the moment and none of us know for sure, but unless he comes out and tells us he isn't leaving and he's going to see out his contract at Aston Villa, it does generate all this speculation.
The only thing left for me to say is sorry. Sorry for any spelling mistakes and sorry for the lack of activity on the site for the next few days. Also for the use of the $ sign; this PC doesn't have the pound sign, but I think you'll get it.
I'm on a sort of holiday, although it is also work, but I won't be able to get in front of my PC as often, although I will be doing a few things from my handheld, but unless we sign someone, coverage of all things VIlla will be limited to one or two posts a day.
Aston Villa in Europe

Enjoy your holiday Damian, have you heard of us being linked with the 35 year old midfielder Snieder?
"35 year old midfielder Bernd Schneider is being linked with a move to Aston Villa. The Bayer Leverkusen man is keen to try his luck in the Premiership this summer."
I,m not sure about this one, although he would offer plenty of experience he would have a season in him at best..
You have done the conversion into dollars as well right? So it's still £6m? I think you'd be better off just putting 6m or 6 millon as it's more confusing, converting to dollars for an English league.
Enjoy your hols Damian, think I'll actually enjoy the lack of rumour news for a bit. :)
What about Nicky Shorey, a few papers have been linking us, as well as West Ham and Newcastle with a move for the left back. If this was true we would be more likely to attract him with European football, but personally i dont rate him. Wouldn't be a bad signing if he was cheap to bulk up the squad though.
i dont know how liverpool can rate carson at 10mil and crouch at 15mil then only think barry is valued at 10mil. i reckon get saha n shorey on the cheap to fill out the squad, i think if saha stayed fit him n carew could become a good partnership
Have a good one!
Id like to see MON being linked with players not just English or play in the Premiership- though im sure he has scouts looking around europe.
Maybe i should do what Nan was a fan suggests and just stick my fingers in my ears til concrete signings come flooding in. Im getting too worked up seeing other teams signing up players methinks.
Have a good one. I see we've been linked with Richard Dunne - would love that. He's an excellent center half.

I'm yet to be excited by any of the realistic transfer speculation and I have noticed a lack of speculation in the last few days come on martin get sigining some real talent
Hope you enjoy your holiday. Hey, why don't we put in a cheeky bid for Wright Phillips? Imagine him on the right with young on the left? Even if Barry does go, and it's looking inevitable, I wish him all the best. He's given us good service but when the top four come knocking, it's hard to resist. We're not saying that he's not loyal, but maybe he feels it's time to move, especially since he was ready to move 2 years ago.
In terms of players coming in, we have to be realistic! Every summer for as long as I can remember, we've been linked to virtually every player that might be available. This year, fans have to take a few of these links with a pinch of salt, and maybe a shot of tequila!!
Last season, linked to Drenthe and Sneijder, who ended up at Real Madrid! Therefore, this season's links to Diego and Van Der Vaart haven't got me jumping out of my seat just yet! Especially when you consider O'Neill's transfer policy up to now.
We have to be realistic, players like Diego, Van Der Vaart and Henry will want Champion's league football but on the same token, it would be nice to see the club going for these types of players, even if they turn us down. If the Small Heath scum can make an approach for Marcello Lippi, then surely we're more ambitious than that!
A hitlist, in my opinion, if we can get some of these players then I'll be happy:
GK: Jaaskaleinen / Boruc / Foster
DF: Cuellar, Miguel, Shorey, Riise
M: Wright Philips, Kallstrom, Sidwell, Schweinsteiger, (Hitzlsperger...anyone?)
F: Dean Ashton,
The point is often made that GB owes his 'resurrection' to MON. Following this logic, GB leaving therefore demonstrates sheer ungratefulness. However, this isn't really the case. GB has always possessed phenomenal talent. This was apparent to me ever since I saw him playing u21 football against the likes of Pirlo, van der Vaart and Viana, and with players like Carrick, Cole and Parker. At this level, Barry stood head and shoulders above them all, nominally positioned as a Centre Back, yet stamping authority on games in a manner reminiscent of Beckenbauer.
He is a wonderful player, and that he is, is almost entirely down to him. Under four different managers he has shown his class, and steadily, inexorably improved. He should be playing at the very highest level, and should he leave I'd be bitterly disappointed, yet proud to see a man with genuine talent, and great character , playing where he should be.
If he went to Liverpool, unless Benitez is a complete buffoon, Barry would be as regular as Gerrard and Torres. However, he should not go there, because Liverpool aren't good enough. As I've said before, I'd rather see him playing in Italy or Spain were he to leave.
Personally, I still believe he will stay, because I believe there is significant investment coming, and a place in the Champion's League in our sights. But should he go because the investment isn't there, and the prospect of Champion's League football is unlikely, who could blame him? He would be a saint and a legend (though people would no doubt question his ambition) if he did stay in those circumstances.
I know the proper thing to do is to say good luck if Barry does choose to go, and I will, but I do agree that he owes this oppty to MON, and I'll be a bit disappointed in him if he leaves the minute his stock is up. What's more disappointing is this seemingly perennially two-tiered league where players are forced into this dilemma.
Perhaps his silence is indicative of a real soul-searching, rather than certainty. I think he probably is waiting for signings. The business about his valuation obviously would also be a factor, but if he really knew he wanted to leave, I'd think he'd ask MON to get it sorted in short order.
Anyway, I'm sure we'll know before the Intertoto. Have a nice holiday, Damian.
Liverpool want £12mn for Carson now where has that come from, Id say his reputation has gone down since last season, where they were asking £10mn for him. They seriously are trying it on with us and trying to bully us. They say Barry is rated at £10mn and ask £12mn for Carson. Rafa is on drugs honestly. If Barry does go I hope we get way over what he is worth, honestly I hope we get in the 20 millions for him just for the trouble Liverpool have caused us.
It really pisses me off when someone like Rafa talks shit, he wants £15mn for Crouch who he doesnt even play.
Damian aslong as there's no photos of you in a Mankini popping up on the site i'll be happy.
Just because the club are still pushing the captain fantastic DVD it doesn't mean that he's goin damian!
Personally I think he'll stay, simply because, he was there for the dark days under Taylor and O'Leary and i really believe that he is loyal to Aston Villa Football Club and that he really wants to be playing UEFA Cup football in claret and blue!
Ive just pulled this from the Mail website:
ASTON Villa are thought to be lining up a move for talented Danish Under-21 international left-back Michael Lumb as they seek reinforcements for next season.
The AGF Aarhus defender is a rising star of the game in Denmark but Villa will face competition from Ajax, who have also been heavily linked with a £1.75million move.
Mind you, Bill Howell wrote this piece and to be fair, i probably wouldn't believe him if he told me he had a penis and ar*ehole
By the way, have a nice holiday!! Also, Can i be you until u get back??
@the_flabster
Its not 12 million GBP it 12 million USD which is 6 million GBP. I don't know why Damian decided to use dollars so rest easy, he hasn't gone crazy :)
@the_flabster: I'd imagine Damian's doubled the number as he has had to use dollars, hence its still £6m (I hope).
@Damian: I think it would be less confusing to put 6m or 6 million rather than convert to dollars. Enjoy your hols, I think I might enjoy a break from the speculation. :)
they want £6mil for Carson or $12 ..
I think its alot personaly he is unproven and prone to mistakes.
we have been linked with Richard Dunne from man city
the_flabster Damian explained that he can't type £ signs at the moment, he states $12million which is £6million, and that is the price being qoted at the moment. £6million is still to much though
Although, under the original loan deal, it was 2 mill for the loan, plus 10 mill for an outright buy = 12 mill.
its just about havin the ambition to raise the stakes an mix it up with the others. if the likes of man city are sniffin around dos santos at barca, we shud be in there too. after all, we finished higher then the like of them. :(

Thee you will find the £ sign... im in Canada and they dont have on their keyboards
Alt 0163
is the shortcut :P
all this specualtion i like to here but it gets 2 me when they saw loads and loads of players when you no they wont come to villa because they would prefer chapions league which is totally acceptable !! like we was linked with sneidjer and drenthe like some one has said now they have won the la-liga title can you blame them ????? sidwell and bently would be brilliant
what bout harper from reading.... cheap and an excellent squad player ??
I'm American and I don't have the pound sign either. That is why you'll never see me use it I always just stick without the dollar sign and add an m. Carson for 10m. I think everyone knows what I mean there ;)
