Injuries have helped Gareth Barry get recalled to the England squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Andorra this month.
It looks like second choice Steve sees Barry as a defender and not a midfielder as it's injuries to defenders that have forced his hand; that and maybe a little pressure from the press and Martin O'Neill!
Martin O'Neill spoke of his disappointment last week "I am very disappointed considering Bridge is injured and Cole is suspended and England don't think Gareth is capable of playing left-back when he has done well for us this season and for a considerable time in that role.
"But then you would always have to think about the circumstances when he was picked in the squad in the first place against Spain.
"Gareth only got brought on for the second half, got picked wide left in midfield and then within 15 minutes, because England weren't doing well, was put into another position.
It wasn't right what happened to Barry last time. Let's hope he gets a proper chance this time.

same here, if he wasn't good enough before then he aint now in crappy maca's eyes, how embarassing an england manager with now sense of tactics, i mean phil neville in the team, that says it all!!!
Second choice steve couldnt pick his own nose let alone an England squad. The likes of neville & downing are a joke.We all know that Venables is running the team ,with Second choice steve living off his back.Allardyce for me would have been the correct choice but the F.A wont appoint sm1 who has his own opinion they want sm 1 who will lick their back doors.
