I was hoping for a poor performance from England tonight and if second choice Steve hadn't recalled David Beckham I'm sure that's exactly what I would have got.
It might make you wonder if bringing him back was good football management or a stupid mistake in the first place. It doesn't me, as I know it was a mistake, just like him not picking Gareth Barry was another mistake.
Which leads me on to the question someone brought up recently; how many chances is he going to get? For me, he should be sacked tonight because quite simply the overall performance against Brazil was poor.
I mean, it's a friendly match. Why did we have to play so conservatively? Why didn't we try and attack more? Why did we play Lampard and Gerrard again when we know it doesn't work? I know I'm not the only one that thinks this.
With a few minutes to go I was willing Brazil forward because I could just see the headlines tomorrow had we won. They would have all been about beating the best team in the World and how things are back on track now that Beckham is back. Well, clearly Beckham was the best player tonight but things are not back on track.
Now, to the title of this post. Whoever guesses right will get there name into a hat and a chance to win a St Martin t-shirt. If you've read this site before you'll know who I mean and just a little clue, it's not Doug Ellis.

you only do england posts so you can call him second choice steve.
For me the "blank blank" can only be two names...Professor Joseph Venglos or David O´Leary. ;)
at stmart
i'm afraid that doesn't fit. it's blank blank, i.e. two words
no wonder he hasn't got another job in football. I can scarcely work out who is less inspiring - the porcelain-toothed ginger twat or the Irish undertaker.
By the way, if I can even squeeze the words out, I meant David O'Leary. Bless him.
I hope its not doug ellis, however much he held us back, we are not in a position where leeds are.
doug ellis
oh by the way smiler mccannt
Give Doug some credit - he sold to Randy, who seems to be a great owner with the best interests of the club at heart, and he helped recruit Martin O'Neill. That, to me, is a fair sign-off..
I don't understand people sticking up for Ellis. One redeeming signing out doesn't make up for over 20 years of misering and mismanagement. We're looking forward now, but not forgetting how bad it was before Randy took over.
Stan Colymore!
Jozef Venglos
Doug Ellis !!! sent this club into the Abyss. remember we were a club the size of manchester united! in the early days until he took over. however he did keep us financially sound, through not sending money. that tactic doesn't work in modern football.
hold on if i remember rightly we were one of the big spenders in the 90's, and he backed most managers with money until DOL, it wasn't exactly his fault they spent it on players like collymoore balaban milosavic etc
