Bosingwa wants to come and O'Neill wants Bosingwa but will the club pay?

Thursday, 16 August 07, 09:59 AM · Comments (38)

Jose Bosingwa wants to join Aston Villa Football Club and Martin O'Neill wants Jose Bosingwa. It's now all coming down to the price that Aston Villa are willing to pay.

Porto don't actually want to sell him but they do have a price of around £8mn. to £10mn. that a club would have to pay to get him. I don't know the exact price the club will have to pay but it's in that ballpark.

But should the club pay £10,000,000 for a right back, who has only just broken into the Portugal side but one that some consider a better player than Paulo Ferreira?. Chelsea paid £13.2mn. for Ferreira and to me, Bosingwa looks like a good deal, when you look at some of the prices some clubs are paying these days. But I don't write the cheques.

Moving on; when we exclusively revealed that Bosingwa was the first choice target for Martin O'Neill we didn't think it would take this long and I don't really understand why it's taking this long.

If the club want the player and Martin O'Neill sees him as part of the five year plan then surely he should bring him to the club? We've played one game without a recognised right back; not very prepared is it.

The whole situation is starting to feel a lot like the Craig Gordon affair all over again. Back then, the club haggled over the price and lost out. Surely they've learnt and should just meet the valuation; after all the player wants to come and Martin O'Neill wants him.

Anyway, from what we understand, there is an alternative right back, quite literally on offer to Martin O'Neill, but the manager wants to know that the Bosingwa deal is dead before exploring that option.

It just might be a case of we have to play the next two games without a recognised right back before we get the one on offer, or Bosingwa for that matter.

How do we know he wants to join us?

Sorry, can't tell you that .. but we told you before anyone else that it was happening.

I'd love to tell you but then the person that emails us won't email any more.

If you go through the site you'll see other times when we wrote about transfers before they happened.

Pay the money and get him. At the moment we have 5 defenders. 1 is v injury prone and 1 in ohallaran is a kid with no experience.
Every other prem club has at least 7 defenders with Man Utd having the max with 10.
We need to sign at least 3 but preferably all of Boswinga, Hoyte, Hangeland, Davies and maybe Silvestre.
If it costs 20 million to do it then so be it.

We have the money - spend it.
It's no good being the richest club in the championship.

He should buy bosingwa AND who ever else is being offered to him. We need more than just the one RB. If bosignwa signs and snaps a leg on his debut we're back to square one.

Not that im a pessimist or anything :)

Im going up to newcastle on saturday and it would be gr8 2 see an actual right back playing. craig gardner is reliable but not pacey enough. we need boswinga even though he is pricey but like every1 has said, we have the funds. i totally agree with every1 elses comments above. if we need to spend 20-30 million on 5-6 decent defenders then so be it. i still think this season is way 2 early to think european football is on the cards, summer seems a reasonable target, but every1 is buying this season and we need to compete. Martin O'Neill, we love you, so please sign defenders, another playmaker in the middle and another striker.

So not only have you a direct line to the manager so you know this player is his first choice, but you also have a direct line to the player to know he wants to come. Not only that but you now suggest the club won't pay because they failed to get Craig Brown. No one at the club - only the press - ever said that we were after that goalie. Unless I see quotes from the manager saying the club won't back him (he has said the opposite) then I'll not question what the club are doing and why 'supposed' transfers are taking so long. Just seems like mischief this Damian.

If Alves is worth £20m , then I don't think £10m is too much to pay, if he really is as good as everyone says he is. It would be nice to have an attacking full-back again.

I'm really disapointed in MON, and believe me it breaks my heart to hit this reality, as the bump is all the more harder after years of Gregory, Taylor, O'Leary and Ellis.
If MON has to wait for the right player and at the right price, then why could'nt SANCHEZ have been made to wait for Hughes, and even if the wait was too much for Fulham, at worst we would have had two right backs (when MON eventually get's his 'prefered' choice in). For a proffesional football club to have NO ONE at right back is just not on! and if we had one, then Gardner, who dare I say it, is a better box to box player than Ian Taylor was, could have played in the middle instead of Petrov, who, lets face it, is awful. Add all this wAiling of mine ON TOP OF the lack of any other quality signings on anywhere near the scale we were definately lead to believe by MON and the club then, well, I'm sorry, I'm just really pissed off, but worst of all, I feel sad and cheated. Sorry.

Ah, JF. I've not said anything about a direct line to the manager or the player. You're now putting words into this that were nowhere to be seen.

Can you not entertain that there are more than two people involved in this transfer?

Re. Gordon, it was a Hearts club representative on the radio that said Villa were haggling over price; I'm only following up on that.

If the club are not going to communicate then we can only make assumptions based on what we learn elsewhere.

Nice of you to come on though and comment.

i personally think that is too much money and he could get hoyte and rosenoir for that - they have potential and a bit of competition for places would improve performance. plus they can both stand in at left back if necessary.

Any player good enough for Villa (we're only going for the best says Martino) is going to cost at least £8m. So is this full back good enough or not. If not, why bother. If he is then pay up.
Villa are currently almost in profit on their transfer dealings this summer. Am I starting to have doubts about the war chest that was brandished at the start of the summer?
Please, please Martino restore my faith.

Agree that £10m for Boswinga a bit high, but if that's what needed you have to do it. Although it is plain to all that we need defenders, I still have a big concern at centre mid. Migel Mediocre will be ok, but Petrov was a mistake. For a top professional he has no engine at all. I hate to say it but this could be a long hard season!!

I don't care whether he's value for money or not anymore. I'm so tired of being positive that i just want to see a right back at the club. Pay 20mil if that's what it takes, just bring someone in. anyone. please.

I was just on avillafan.com and found this:

Villa agree fee for two Portuguese stars
Radio stations in Portugal are this afternoon reporting that Aston Villa have agreed fees for two Portuguese stars.

Although names are yet to be confirmed, the two players are thought to be Porto's right back, Jose Boswinga, who Villa have been linked with all summer, and Benfica midfielder Manuel Fernandes.

Benfica are set to value the midfielder at around £10 million, and this is why Everton (who have also been linked with him after he joined them on a loan deal last season) have been put off.

I hope there is some truth in this. Bosingwa would be a great signing as we desperately need a right back and fernandes was good for everton last season but I cant see where he would fit into the team. I suppose he would create competition for places but maybe £10 million is a bit much for someone that we don't really need- I have faith in Petrov and I'm sure he'll come good and be one of the best midfielders in the prem over the next few years.

Im so sick of waiting im sure we will have someone in before deadline day but the fact that by then we could have possibly lost our first 3 games due too the lack of midfield creativity and a natural right back i hope the deal for bosingwa goes through he'd be a quality signing also i hope the rumour about fernandes is also true i was very impressed with him when he was on loan at everton MON just has to accept hell have to spend big in todays market

why is everyone assuming there is loads of money to spend, i've always thought there was, giving the amount of money randy is used to spending on his cleveland brown players (fees & salaries etc). but i'm beginning to wonder, exactly what has o'niel got to spend, for all we know he might be on a budget by the club and not a self inflicted one like we all think. why would he borrow a keeper if he has funds to purchase one, why pay 3.5m - 4m for harewood if he's got he dough to buy defoe or wright-phillips. i know he says he wont pay over the odds for players, but what difference does it make to him how much a player is, if the club is willing to back him with the funds, surely he should spend it to get the top quality players he's looking for, after all, it's his job thats at stake if he gets the signings wrong. or perhaps he his putting up a bit of a smoke screen to safe-guard the new owner. i guess we'll have to wait to see what happens in the next 14 days.
anyway, i'm fed up at watching sky sports news for that 'breaking news' banner to pop up saying we've signed someone, so i'm off to bed, there's always tomorrow. good night all!!!

Hi lads, haven't posted for a bit but felt i had to put my little bit in here and remind you all of last month.
When we first inspected the you tube videos of Bosingwa on here (about a month ago ?), he was rumoured to be available for about £2.5m. Roque Santa Cruz was available at the same time for about £3.5m. Along with Hangeland and Gordon, we could have reportedly got all four THEN for about £18m !!?
Gordon's doing great, Santa Cruz... 2 in 2 (someone one on here said he was crap) and could we not have done with Bosingwa and Hangeland v Pool ?
Now £10 million for Bosingwa is a different story. He's not worth that IMO but if we could cut a deal for him and his mate Fernandes as well...that would be worth looking at !!! :o :D ;)
We can forget Friday transfers with travelling to Newcastle etc...forget Saturday transfers with playing Newcastle etc
How many days does that leave ?
UP THE VILLA ;)

And one more thing...
That Finnish team of doubtful credibility that Blackburn played today had a shiny Nike kit on. I'm no kit expert but their kit looked exactly the same as ours but in Arse colours. Same neck detail etc
Correct me if i'm wrong but have Nike used the same template as Finnish minnows and simply changed the colour of the cloth ? Although, i like our home shirt, when the pallet pic came out, i was a bit disappointed it wasn't a bit more adventurous ! (like the stripe on the back of the man u kit).
Looks like we been mugged...again ?
Hope I'm proved absolutely wrong and we sign some megastars and win the treble (lol) ;)

Reassured MON is waiting until the few days to bring all his target signings. He is waiting for all the big 4 clubs to finish their dealings and will then make his move. Whether this is the correct way of dealing I'm not convinced - a couple of early decent signings to convince other potential signings to come to Villa may have made this easier.
