Calamity Kiraly costs us a draw against Man Utd

Sunday, 07 January 07, 10:58 AM · Comments (14)

Despite us not deserving it we were heading for a draw until calamity Kiraly spilled an Solskjaer shot in the 91st minute, putting United 2-1 up.

We were appalling most of the game and I've got a big list of things that show why were not even good enough to be mid table.

Man Utd fans will be heavily relieved as we were about to take them to a replay, although to be fair we probably would've lost anyway. I just can't wait for Thomas Sorenson to return to fitness.

This has to be one of the most pointless articles ever written by a person connected or not connected to Villa. Despite not playing the slick, attacking football that we wanted this was a spirited and organised display over the best team in the country at their home ground. It took a goalkeeping gaffe to knock us out in the end and not many teams will be able to get as close as we did today. Also learn how to use a spell checker...it's not rocket science.

considering we borrowed him from palace he's done well enough-- do you think that we#ll buy another keeper this jan? and are we going to release whitts if (to my profound dissatisfaction) he doesnt get ahead of JLS? i thought that he would fill the hole left by hitz but alas...

I'm sorry thegreatdando but getting close isn't good enough, it doesn't get us into the fourth round draw now does it?

At the end of the day, this is a summary of the result of the game. Use your brain!

what are you talking about, I was proud to be a villa fan today and I think that with a little bit more quality, we would be a top side. Cahill and osbourne were sensational

They were still better than us and had something like 25 shots .

We gave the ball away a lot of the time and when we broke we'd often turn back towards goal and give United plenty of time to organise themselves and get bodies back.

The fact we played well in the last 15-20 mins doesn't take away from how badly we played up until that. United should've beaten us before the 91st minute although to be fair that last goal was very lucky.

Overall we probably didn't deserve to take them to a replay but it was disappointing to lose like that. I agree that Cahill and Osbourne both looked impressive and I was also pretty pleased with both Bouma & Ridgewell. I've been critical of both in the past but they seem to be playing with more confidence now under Mr. O'Neill.

Of course they are going to be better than us at the moment, they are Man Utd who have an embarassment of riches in every department, and we are a team in transition fielding a crop of kids. I fear lots of other teams will not get close, and make no exception we aren't in the 4th round any more, but we gave it a damn good shot, and with the exception of 3 minutes and a howler, we would have still been in that draw albeit with a replay....some fans need a serious reality check, and I fear that you are one of them. Try writing a balanced summary of the game instead of complaining.

They all battled, ok but there were mistakes but who cares. We have a team of Youngsters and players playng we above their level at the moment. I was proud of all the Players today, inc Kiraly, who had kept us in the game until the incident. I hope the team builds from the last two games and two best team in the premier and it will go from strength to strength, keep it up lads you did us proud today. I hope you all agree,

Up the Villa!!!!!!!!!1

Vijay- Sorenson is due back sometime around the end of this month or start of February, although it's always hard to pinpoint these things.

Thegreatdando- my report will be up tomorrow hopefully. Trust me, I don't like complaining but we played poorly at times. Of course Man Utd are better than us but some of the thigns we did would look just as bad against any team.

I'm looking forward to some players coming back from injury and new signings so we can tighten up our game. I'm sure MON will have seen the same things as me and probably a lot more and no doubt he will put things right. I don't expect anything over night and at least we're playing much better than under O'Dreary. The kids are learning their trade but I think it's a case of too many at the moment.

I've just seen confirmation that Villa are hoping to bring Bardsley in on loan from Man Utd for the rest of the season, but it just depends on Bardsley agreeing to move now.

...but oh well. I think, contrary to what the article says, we deserved a draw. The lads battled throughout, true we didn't have many attacks but before the game I feared we may lose 3 or 4 nil. WELL DONE THE VILLA!

When one considers that we fielded a team of kids sprinkled with some mediocre pros and a goalkeeper from a Championship side it is obvious that we did just fine. Their bench is worth more than our entire team ffs! They didn't walk all over us; what Man.U did do was buckle down to the job when it became apparent that we weren't going to roll over for them (unlike Chelski, who began to pout). Hats off to the away fans for being louder than 60,000ish Mancunians.
