First, he's getting called Judas, because that's what a fair amount of the travelling support shouted at him last night; not because of this great Judas wallpaper.
Second, it's a serious question; can he come back from this? I for one don't think he can. Look at this way; your wife or girlfriend tells you they've met someone else, nothings happened, but they want to split up; what do you do?
You don't act like a mug, you let her leave and you demand you take ownership of the the new 42" plasma and all the nice toys you've bought together. You get them and she leaves. Do you have her back in a month if she comes back and says sorry?
Sure, this isn't like life and it's not like your girlfriend or wife, even husband or boyfriend but how long have you loved Aston Villa and how long have you loved your current partner?
I'm just playing, I'll let you answer to the right, but one thing I'm not convinced about is the booing. I don't go for this loyal servant for ten years or is he's in the shirt he should be supported, I just don't like booing.
Booing is not very nice and hardly something we should be proud of. I wouldn't say anything to anyone that did it, as everyone pays and everyone has a right to express themselves the way they want to, I just won't be joining in is all.
I'm booing him now in my head though and thinking up words that rhyme with Judas, fat pants, Barry and Liverpool. I'm just playing; answer the poll to the right, not as you think but as you think it will go.

the question is will mon have him back
Perverse logic Damian. Put it this way: -
You find a secret diary in which your wife goes into great detail as to why she lusts after the (richer, better looking) guy next door and will leave at the first snap of his fingers.
Do you kick her out or wait for her to say it?
Next question. How many of the current Villa squad do you think would refuse an offer from Liverpool?
So what is the point you are making? So long as you keep your mouth shut and don't tell the world the truth you are OK with us?
He will be off to liverpool,The booing wasn`t very nice and i wouldn`t have done it if i was there but i also hate this 10 years "service" crap,I have read comments elsewhere of villa fans being ungrateful,LOL Barry has been made a millionaire by aston villa in return for playing football for fuck sake anyone who uses the term "loyal service" like barry has been slaving away for the cause needs to get in the real world.A soldier serves his country a football gets payed miilions of pounds some out of the fan pockets to kick a ball, Take that 10 years "service" crap and stick it.It obviously doesn`t mean jack all to him.
I like that AV Mark, it is a good way to put it and i fully understand your point, but i do not think, along with the majority of villa fans now that gareth barry is, and ever will be fit to wear the claret and blue of aston villa again. He has brought the manager and the club in turn into disrepute with his comments in the newspapaers.
I was throuhgly outraged last night when i heard that MON had put him in the side. It shows that MON isnt as hardy as we thought he was. If i was manager, Barry wouldnt step foot inside villa park again.
Let me know your feelings.
If he comes out and apologises and says he was a fool.
Then make him captain again.
And put him in the squad for Saturday too!
Damian, will you still Boo Barry if he scores on Saturday and gets us into europe?
Yes he wanted to leave, who at Villa wouldnt want to go to Liverpool. he may have got easily led into his actions by poor advice from Gerrard. i'd be first to cheer him if he stays at villa as he was the thing that ticked us over last season and got us where we are. he is the most composed person on the ball we have seen at villa park for years, and lets face it it'll be very tough for us to go replacing him as we wont attract big names when players of Barry's class leave...
I do trust Martin O'Neills stance on it after all Barry is employed by Aston Villa, surely we should be convincing him to stay rather than push him away, he has been a legend at Villa.
This is a really tough one for Villa fans, because there is a 50-50 chance that his move might not go through!
In my mind, at this very moment, he has stated his desire to leave Aston Villa FC, and to me, he's stabbed us in the back there, the fact that he'll be going to Liverpool just twists the knife! And i want him to go now, just simply because he don't wanna be there!
However, if the transfer doesn't go through then we can't let a player of his calibre and class sit in the reserves, so that would mean he has to win us back over! And that would take a little more than kissing the badge a couple of times! Didn't Dwight Yorke do that? I'd want to see 200% effort and commitment, an open letter to all Villa fans telling us "Well i was a bit of a cock but I love you and will give my all to the Claret and Blue cause" Furthermore "I will go over to St. Andrews and take a leak by the tilton, then go to Anfield and take a dump in front of the Kop and will then put the Video on Youtube" "And when i get back to Bodymoor Heath i will seek Master O'Neill and give him a big hug and bow down to his holyness" "Also, i wish to donate £40.000 to Acorns for all the kiddies"
There is a few more things but you get the gist!!
AVMark
The thing is with this whole Barry saga is it can be spun anyway you want.
But, after he gets booed last night with shouts of Judas, the questions is; can he win back the fans?
I really don't think he can, not the way he had them. I think he'll always be remembered this way now. If he had gotten a good reception last night I think that would have gone a long way, but after that reception - I don't think so anymore.
ChiefVillaNut
I wouldn't boo a player, so the question you ask is irrelevant; but if he scores and we win, it would be nice to see that he's still doing the job he's paid very handsomely for.
Barry is wrong in this saga. not only has he just turned his back on a club that has made him what he is. his greed has taken the better of him, i thought he was different from the rest. its like in the rocky film when rocky trains tommy gun for him to turn his back on him. Villa is a respectable club and when somebody disrespects it, then there is no requirments for that player. maybe we cud just keep him and not play him, or would that be harsh?
Damian, I believe he can. Wasn't Lee Hendry pretty badly treated at Walsall a few years back?
If amongst Villa fans there are very few fickle morons you are definitely right. I wonder ...
on the subject of the 42" Plasma, I've got one where the volume button doesn't work that I'm selling for £50 surely for that price you can't turn it down!
The simple fact is that Barry has conducted himself so badly in this whole saga. He wasnt helped by Rafa and Gerrard but all he had to do was tell MON behind closed doors that he would like to move to the pool and leave it there and let the club sort it out. The fact that Liverpool didnt meet the asking price, Barry spit his dummy out and went on a renagade mission to force his way to liverpool. If he had any respect for the club wouldnt have done this a at the very least let the Aston Villa get a fair price for him.
Personally, I've booked flights over to Birmingham for the weekend of the Liverpool game in late August to watch us stuff Liverpool 3 - 0 :) Can't wait - will be my first time in VP!
barry was booed last night but after half an hour there were people clapping for him and even when he was subbed there were ppl clapping him. hes ben a good servant to the club and if he turned round and said he made a mistake and wants to stay i for one would want him to stay, hes a quality player and we need quality. we shouldnt be getting rid of our best players. we missed him in saturdays game and even when he went off last night there was no one in the centre of midfield to do anything. i thought he would be easy to replace to judging by last nights game and last saturdays game its not goin to be that easy and he is a player we need.
gareth barry woooooh garath barry wooooh he fancies stevie G .He's fat and smells of wee, gareth barry wooooooooh.ITS MY FIRST ATTEMPT !
He CAN come back from this, anyone could if they went about it the right way. I think the issue is - does he WANT to?
Sadly, I think the answer to that is no.
damian, i seem to remember a discussion last year when you were ok with the booing of petrov because of his poor form. if i recall correctly you argued it might actually help him.
at the time i said it was moronic to boo a villa player. i didn't anticipate our captain would use the national media to attack the club and manager though!!
boo away boys. wanting away is one thing, talking shite about it in the NoTW crosses a line.
to quote mr barry on this - "there's no way back, it's time for me to move on"
AVMark - your secret diary metaphor would be more accurate if barry had kept his gob shut. change it from a secret diary to one published in the national media and then ask the same question.... you might find a slightly different answer.
if he doesnt go to liverpool, and says he just wants to get on with playing football and forget the whole mess then fair enough. His best mate plays for Liverpool, and he was just being honest to the press which was stupid, but so what if hes here then play him, he had a decent game last night and he will want to still be in the england set up, so he will still give his all.
I alos think its abit harsh on Barry, the guy has played for Villa for 10 years, playing very well, and working hard. One mistake and hes crucified. Unbelievable really.
Truth of the matter is we all love barry, I was at the last home game of the season against Wigan. Even though there was massive support for mellberg, there were a few "barry for villa" chants, no-one in that ground, including MON wanted him to join Liverpool.
Whilst we all understand his desire to leave and play for Liverpool, even though I don't agree with it, we feel cheated and robbed of our club captain. It hurts to think he would rather become part of rafa's squad rotation rather than lead villa of a european tour.
Truth of the matter is that MON and any true support will want whatâ€s best for the club, therefore to answer your question Damian, a public apology and commitment to the club accompanied with hard work in training and keeping his head down would see the villa faithful cheer GB once more.
Football can be a fickle game.
Does anyone know were I can watch the goals from last night?
I know this is off the subject but does anyone know were I can watch the goals from last night?
Villafandan - I think the metaphor works better 'diary' style as the media are invasive and drew it out of him.
On another note, I believe Salifou should tie Rafa to a radiator and kick him to death.
I am fed up of this Barry-baiting. Get off the guys case for gods sake - he has decided the time has come to better himself and I can't blame him in the slightest. I have had a season ticket my whole life and seen some great players (and some total crap) and Barry's one of the classiest players to wear the shirt. Since signing a new contract and showing faith in Martin O'Neill and Randy Lerner a couple of years ago that they would make us into a top quality side, Barry has seen no evidence that their promises are ever going to come to fruition. Maybe at the age of 27 and looking into his empty trophy cabinet, the pennies dropped that he is unlikely to fill it playing in a side that went the whole of last season with no right back and no right winger. I've even heard MON quoted in the press that Petrov could be a candidate for the captaincy - which means he is presumably actually going to play the guy rather than signing a replacement for him like he should have done last year!
I hope I am wrong (and there's still a month in which to actually buy some good players) but I feel that MON and RL have conned me and thats exactly how Barry feels. I bet when he signed his new deal, MON said to Barry 'give me a couple of years to show what we can acheive' and that time is now up and Barry has so far been cheated like we all have. Like every other fan, I was excited at the prospect of MON being able to invest RL's vast amounts of cash in world-class players to make us into a formidable team. The 1st pre-season MON came in late and said 'give me a full pre-season to show what I can do'. That time was last pre-season when he brought in some very average players - nobody to excite the fans or who could in any way be described as world class. Despite a full transfer window we entered the season with no recognised right back, no right winger and no cover for Bouma who in the previous season had been so poor that he made Jlloyd look like a maruading full-back. I expect Barry looked at the side he was skippering and thought 'hmmmmm, why havent we signed a right back or a winger - surely these are quite important people to have in a side - maybe MON isn't the Messiah I thought he was' - because thats exactly how I felt.
Make no mistake - we got lucky last season, who would have though Laursen would play in every game (and play brilliantly)? Laursen, Barry, Young and to a lesser extent Carew and Davies carried that team last season and we won't be so lucky this year.
I expected MON to build on this team as soon as the final whistle blew at the end of the season. Barry felt exactly the same. I thought money was no object - get the players in and fill the fans and Barry with optimism for the coming season that we can finally begin to challenge. Bentley, Milner, Robinson, Bosingwa, Miguel, Dos Santos, Bridge, SWP, to hell with it - RL can afford it - we will have Henry as well!...
That was 2 months ago and whats happened since - 5 players have left and 1 has been brought in. A Chelsea reserve who can hardly be described as world-class or remotely exciting and manages to score an own goal on his competitive debut! I am beginning to despair, if Odense have the common sense to realise that a team without a recognised right-back can be badly exposed and punished then how do you think the rest of the Premiership feel. Man U away showed us up for the blaggers we were last season and if MON thinks that playing a half fit midfielder at right-back in the 1st round of the Intertoto is an acceptable tactic then we have got serious issues.
Yes, MON has made some good signings - Young is bordering on a footballing-genius and Carew is 100 times better than Baros but as the old saying goes: 'throw enough s**t at a wall and some of its gonna stick'.
Hope I haven't depressed you all too much and I live in hope that by the start of the season we have at least 2 players to fill every position and some of them actually turn out to be better than the current ones we have but my patience is wearing painfully thin. So get off Gaz Baz's back, I hope he stays but so far the management have given him and the fans absolutely no reason to suggest that we are ever going to be more than mediocre. Stop calling him a money grabber too - money clearly isn't the issue - the guy wants some job satisfaction like everybody else in the world. Nobody likes to be part of a team where other people are dragging you down and holding you back but that is exactly what is going on at Villa Park.
If I was David Bentley, I wouldn't want to play in front of an invisible full-back in a team where liabilities such as Zat Knight will ruin all your good work no matter how well you play either. No wonder we can't sign anyone good....
We are led to believe the only point stopping GB going to Liverpool is a difference of a mere £3m / £4m (mere - I'd like that in my back pocket!)
Now if GB is so keen on Champions League etc etc yawn, yawn - he should put in a transfer request. Thus losing the right to a signing on fee that is probably near as damn it the difference between AV's and Liverpool's valuation of GB. Cash problem solved GB goes to Liverpool.
Of course GB has a back pocket as well!
Career and greed seem to be colliding within GB's thought process.
Put in a transfer request you money grabbing waste of space.
I am a through and through villa supporter and yet last night i was disappointed when Gareth Barry was booed last night, yes i know he could have handled the situation better but i think if any perosn was offered considerably more money in their job with better prospects, they would also leave, the guy has been instrumental in the villa side and i only wish good luck wherever he decides to go...me personally i would rather he stayed....
To quote Alexander Pope: 'to err is to be human, to forgive is divine'.
Of course he will get booed but if he makes a public apology and privately grovels to MON and it is accepted, we should accept him back.
The diary metaphor doesn't work because footballers are mercenary, I have previously given a better analogy referring to Barry being like a f**k buddy. It is not nice that they want to shag someone else but if they are fit, in all senses of the word and pleasing on the eye, you would except them back.
At first it may be awkward, (Walsall last night) but if they threw themselves into it and after 45 mins each way were hot and sweaty and wobbly knee'd you would overlook this blip in your relationship.
Remember the fans ore the soul of the club, the players come and go. If Bary apologises and we still tell him to piss off then how is that going to look. Exactly, like Man Utd or Liverpool fans!
i think we need him to stay. i think people saying that he need to apologise are wrong. WE need to apologise for booing him last night. he still gave his all and played well and i think if the transfer to liverpool fell through he would happily stay at villa. but the booing was disgraceful he might just think now that we dont appreciate him so he will think fk; it and just leave.
but i think we should do all we can to keep him and not drive him away by booing him. its just ridiculus. he is easily our best player and you can tell that by looking at the past few games, we have been utter sh!t without him becasue he controls the midfield and a lot of the other players have taken the barry saga as a blow because none of them have played particulaly well since all this started.
so really we shouldn't be expressing how much we hate him because of some stupid interview. we should show how much we love and need him to convince him to stay.
its not a question of will we forgive him now - its will he forgive us??
Villafandan. Secret diary or published diary the point is the mindset and attitude of the player is the same. What you imply is that you don't care what the player thinks, how he performs, what his record his. All you care about is what he says to the media? And for that - if he says and does what the majority of other players WOULD DO IN HIS CIRCUMSTANCES you will boo him and cheer the others?
Strange logic.
Prediction:- GB will be playing at Villa until the January 09 transfer window.MON will play GB. GB will not be booed from the moment he scores a vital goal. GB will play well at Villa as he is playing for an England spot.GB will not be captain this will go to Laursen. None of this has anything to do with women. ;)

We have moved from 16th to 11th in the first season and now 6th in the second.
What do you want as evidence?
...the management have given him and the fans absolutely no reason to suggest that we are ever going to be more than mediocre.
AGAIN we've gone from escaping relegation to European football in two seasons.... shall we sack MON and sell all our players because we're never gonna fill the trophy cabinet?
Our team is small and shite, surely we need every single player we can keep especially one that plays for the national team, unfortunately we don't have the luxury of being all on our moral soap boxes.
to theprimeminister...
I'm interested in your telly. Ask Damien for my e-mail address and send me some details.
UP THE VILLA ;)
no volume button...can't turn it down ;D
theprimeminister all u have to do is buy some speakers and plug them into your dvd player or w.e. you dont have to use the tv for audio. dont sell a 42 inch for 50 quid, thats just stupid.
sorry av33:P
MON was right to give GB a run-out last night, and might have been acknowledging the reality that Barry could still end up in Villa shirt when the season starts.
I suppose there's a way back, despite what Barry has said, but he'll obviously need to work hard. Whether he wants to try and win the fans back...Well, I suppose that's up to him.
To be honest, it will be hard to have any joy watching him play for Villa even if he does make big contributions. I guess it will depend on how he chooses to handle himself and the situation. I'm not really a big fan of booing, but I don't think the fans are far wrong in this case. I understand Barry's desire, but he has sort of p*ssed on everyone at Villa in the way he went about things.
Barry's made his mind up and has put himself in a position where he has to go. But in saying that, we've got to make the squad stronger and not be affected by his departure.
It is going to be very difficult to finish 6th again this year and fans have got to be realistic.
Ah!...I know that this doesn't relate directly to this article but...ah!!! I just read that West Ham have signed a right sided player Valon Behrami from Lazio. Apparently he can play both right wing and right back. What is wrong with our scouting network? Do we even have one? Does anyone at the club have any idea what they are doing??? If West Ham can identify their targets and buy them then why can't we? What is wrong with MON?
if barry puts a villa shirt on, plays well, gives 100% then il support him.
Firstly i'm suprised the way the pole is going at the moment. Secondly I think the damage is already done, too much water has passed under the bridge, the bridge has been burned to shite, etc, etc.
If Barrys brought back it'll only be a matter of time before he's off to the first club that puts a bid in. I reckon we should all forget about him and staying with the whole water/bridge theme, there are plenty more fish in the sea.
Seriously people, we are jumping on the moral high ground but honestly how many of you wouldnt go off to work for a rival company if they offered you more money and better prospects. I'm condoning the things he said about MON but MON hasnt really helped his cause by not showing any intent in the transfer window. That out the way forget Gaz Baz's possible or rather impossible transfer what we neeed to concentrate on is the lack of signings and the rather important game on saturday. eventhough we are going about it the hard way we are trying to get into europe and we need depth in numbers something that we are lacking in a big way.
eventhough my rant is incoherent it is my first of its kind.
WE NEED PLAYERS AND QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just read that GB can play in the Intertoto without making him cup tied in Europe.
What would you guys do if you were MON, would you pick him for Saturday or not?
I think I would, albeit he looks a little fat at the moment, he could probably help us seal the victory in the first 60 minutes then go off never to be seen again in a Villa shirt. That would mean he has helped us get into the UEFA Cup and hopefully we can nail down some of the European standard players then?
What do you think - should he play him?
Have a feeling most of the people that say 'get off Barry's back' don't go down Villa Park all that often, and while safely sitting in their armchairs, it's easy to forgive and forget and say Barry has been mistreated!
Now booing someone while wearing the Villa colours is wrong in my opinion, but don't get me wrong.....Barry can rot in our reserves for all I care after the way he has spoken and lied about our club and manager! Get some pride some of you, him being a great player means nothing to me when I beloved Aston Villa is belittled by a guy that thinks he is too big for our club! I would rather have a poor player like Zat in the side week in week out, who is 100% percent Villa than ever see that Judas where a villa shirt again!
Make your minds up lads…..Villa fans…..or overpaid modern day slave sympathiser fans?
Please please please can we all forget the politics surrounding this whole messy affair and think about the football for a change.. we NEED Barry more now than ever so get behind him and leave him alone!
BLACKBURN JUST ACCEPTED 2M BID FROM VILLA FOR FRIEDEL WITH 0.5M IN ADD ONS ACCORDING TO SKY SPORTS NEWS.
Apparently on Sky sports news Villa have just agreed a fee with Blackbuirn for Brad Friedal - nothing on the Villa site yet but for me this is a step in the right direction to suring up the defence a bit.
Do we know how long it's going to take for Guzan to get his Visa?
eddielotr, What a stupid post! I have been going down villa park since I was 5 years old, I was ballboy for 4 seasons and have just re-newed my season ticket again and am 29 today. So I am no armchair supporter. I want Barry back and will forgive him for the simple reason: I want my beloved Aston Villa to break into the top 4 and we have a much greater chance of achieving that with him rather than without him.
Just put yourself in Barrys shoes: your playing for say Blackburn who you dont support (as Barry doesnt support Villa) and Liverpool come in for you who are playing at the very top club in level and are willing to double your wages. Wouldnt you fancy it??? All he is guilty for is trying to better himself as we all try and do in our every day jobs.
Hopefully he will have a change of heart and achieve his dream with villa but with people like yourself slating him this wont happen.
We are through with him. You can want away, that's fine.
You cannot tell the press that you want out because it's not good enough at the club you are at. We all have jobs, none of us would expect much support from management or colleagues if we acted like this in such a public manner.
I've got a push chair for £20. Hey it's like Swap Shop.
BARRY THINKS HE'S BIGGER THAN VILLA
Im sick of the whole Barry saga! He should be sold my feeling is that he said he wants to leave? YES LEAVE! Now cus his best mates team are broke and riddled with dept? They cant afford the player they tapped up! Its a joke like when ronaldo scored that really humiliating goal against us! YES THAT GOAL.
Remember life goes on at villa! Fans go on like we've won something? We've won nothing since Barry was here, Cash in while you still can!
I can't see why the x-capain is still here, i think we are getting a bit greedy with the fee 18m really
1: Liverpool offer 14m plus finnan TAKE IT
2: Liverpool offer 12m plus finnan TAKE IT
3: Final offer 10m plus finnan TAKE IT
Take It we only got him for 500,000? if we got 10m ten years later that is brilliant???????????????
Final Conclusion
Most Premier League players are rich, they all got nice houses, cars, gadgets! My point being barry can go to sunderland and still be a millionaire? Thats just how it is nowadays.
We choose to support Villa and that comes with the decision to prize the wallet strings opened in 5 years time most of these players wont even be at Villa Park, whilst most of us will still be supporting the mighty Villa.........
P.s thepriminister you almost had me i was ready to put my bid in with Dammo! haha
As we all know Football fans can be very petty, but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if Barry is still here next season. If he makes a public apology and works his bollocks off then I think everyone will soon forget. It's a shame that he ruined it for himself but at the same time, it does seem like MON has messed him around and if you were in his position, a professional footballer who wants the best for his career, what would you have done?
if the slave says sorry to the villa fans give him 40 lashes and tell him not to do it again and put it down to a moment of madness nah sod him get rid of gerrads girlfriend now!!!! 8) 8) 8).i love jazmundo xxxxxxxxxxxx
put the slave on e bay ;D ;D ;D
only just signed up bt i thought i i would give my view,
the thing that is gettin on my nerves is that villa made barry into the player he is now, and played the best football of his career under MON, nd he hasnt shown the slightest bit of gratitude towards either the club or MON.
and i cant believe MON is even considering him for the home leg on saturday.
ive also heard that liverpoiol are also interested in milner, so if in was MON i would use barry to get liverpool to not go through with there chase for milner, then accep 16m plus finnan, that covers a right side pretty well tbh
cracking site btw, the best site for news and gossip about the might villa
I don't give a rats ass about Barry, I want some SIGNINGS!!!!!!
PS Just saw Luke Moore in a chemists in Stechford
Enough about Judas, apparently Blackburn have accepted a 2 million quid offer and wee shaun wrightphillips is on his way to Villa park for 8 as Pompey have said they are no longer interested. back to glory days?
Sky reports that we have agreed a fee for Friedel!! Hope we have him in the net on Saturday.. sadly it seems that we will need all the help we can get.
UTV
I just can't see how Barry will get his credibility back after all this. Decent player but i'd rather take any decent money now, providing it is used on players.
theprimeminster...i wanted to use it as a monitor. cableguy is right i think but vol was not an issue for me. If you do get rid, please offer me first refusal if you would be so kind.
nan was a fan...theres a chance i might need your pushchair to carry something heavy from theprimeminiser's gaf! Do you want to swap it for an action man and an evil kneivel doll ? lol

Why the hell are people talking about this crap all over again - to be fair you bore the the ar*e off me with recycled b*llshit related to the Gareth Barry saga, I dont give a f*ck about Gareth Barry as he is affectively no longer a Villa player - has nobody noticed the club are standing completely still right now?
If people were able to switch off pathetic blinkered loyalties and actually consider for a minute the detail within Barrys outburst (not only the fact he wants out) add this where the club are standing 6 weeks or so later, desperately holding out publically via the media for another 1m here or there as these are the only funds available for team re building - trust me there would be a revolt!
Unfortunately you cant can you?
Please if anyone replies at me with "MON knows what players he wants" - "the Villa 5 year plan" or even the ridiculous "Lerner is here for the longhaul" then I suggest that you proceed with caution.
FEE AGREED FOR BRAD FRIEDEL BUT HE IS NOT A VILLA PLAYER UNTIL SUITABLE REPLACEMENT IS FOUND FOR BLACKBURN!!!!!!!!

dont f****n boo him! did it look like a half hearted performance at walsall, i feel if we are gna break the top 4 we need barry in order to do tht because lets face it pre-season has not been very promosing without him, at first i thought yes boo him but if called upon he will never let us down, so if he plays saturday i will be right behind him, and i hope the rest of the crowd is too!
If we manage to get Friedel by Saturday, if Blackburn get whoever it is they are after. Is he able to play in the intertoto?
Ron - No, he's not registered for the competition.
I thought so, it's just many papers were making out villa were hopeful of getting him to play at the weekend.
Thanks for clearing that up Beastmix
I must say I'm not one for getting on players back apart from a little banter. However I really feel Villa fans have every right to show their anger towards Barry. I didn't like the fact that last night he went out on the pitch clapping his hands in all directions - Not sure who he was clapping? Anyway that aside if BARRY had just waited for Liverpool to make an offer Villa accept or not and if accepted just go. But no he made a song and dance and only has himself to blame.
I also want MON to take a bow in playing him. I think that was one of the best bits of man management I've seen in ages. Whilst getting paid stupid money I think MON should use him as he sees fit.
Friedel will be so good next season. Blackburns defence isn't great. He ahd 8 clean sheets and a 95% catch rate according to Skysports News!! 95% That means us pretty much not conceding from corners or crosses which is where the majority of goals seem to come from, especially from those teams outside the top 3!! Fantastic stuff. Age doesn't count for a keeper and this is an astute signing. Couldn't give two hoots that its not flashy and expensive, its bloody intelligent stuff!
Darragh i hope you enjoy the liverpool game,Iv travelled over for 5 games in the last 4 years and we havent won 1.Im going to the man city game in august,so i hope i break my jinks.
If he wanted to leave then, as disapointing as it was, most would have happily accepted it. I have to say though, I think MON is largely responsible for his recall to the England squad that he so desperately craved and it was a little ungrateful on Barry's part irrespective of what he was going for. I could understand it more if we were really strugling but good progress has been made.
He definitely should not have gone public with his feelings. Reading the article you couldn't help feeling that he actually hates the place, which is hard for us to take and is the primary reason for the mood swing against him.
He would gain a lot more respect if he handed in a transfer request. How you can come out and say the things he did and still not hand in a transfer request is ridiculous and makes him look like a money grabbing twerp! I'm actually surprised he hasn't handed one in so maybe there's other reasons. Perhaps if you hand in a transfer request you don't get so much (if any) say in where you go - just a guess but I'd be interested to know.
Lastly - could he come back?. I'm really not sure. Time is a great healer. Add an apology or even just an admitance of being ill advised, keep your head down and do your talking on the pitch and you never know what may happen. If we were to qualify for CL next season (though not likely) he could come out and say this was all he ever truly wanted to happen blah, blah, blah. On the other hand, it's very hard to forget things like this and I'm not totally convinced there's anything he could do that would regain our trust and, perhaps more importantly, our respect.
There, that was nice and helpful. :'(
I've been to rehab over the last few days, but I broke out and looked for an internet connection to get back on this bloody blog.....Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh >:( >:( >:( >:(
I've decided I'm going to stop talking sense and become a proper argumentative shit. So here goes.
Atlas.....Numpty....Taglor is as claret as the stuff running through your veins! Treat him with respect, he talks more sense than anyone on here.
Gareth Barry...If there's one person on here that's never made a f@ck-up in your life and not wanted forgiveness then please drop me a line. You people that think he should be booed are just as bad. You say he has acted childish, ill advised, spat the dummy out etc. Look at yourselves and what you are saying and doing. You really don't deserve to draw breath if you have that much animosity towards a fellow human being. I was ashamed to be a Villa fan watching the sports news today showing the boo buys. What a poor advert for Aston Villa Football Club. You have added more bad press to an already bad situation.
If MON is going to get quality across the midfield that will also replace Barry then I say sell him for £15m to pool or whoever. This is for the money, not because I think he's done bad and should go anyway. If MON is not going to get in quality (which I suspect?), then do you lot with your stupid misplaced pride really want the team to suffer by putting Barry in the reserves. That will teach him a lesson won't it! The guys f@cked-up. Get over it. I've f'cked-up and wanted a second chance. We are thankful for our successes, but you know what we become stronger people for learning from our mistakes!
theprimeminister...want to do a 'swap-shop' Gareth Barry DVD for your TV? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
It was a disgraceful way for the Manager and fans to behave last night.
For MoN to get his own back on the club captain in that manner was despicable, what message does that action alone send out to prospective players that may want to come to our club
We can only be seen as a stepping stone for better things like we have been for years from Platty to York all siteing moving on for Ambition Alone who can blame anyone for that.
We have had to suffer another summer of hesitation in the transfer window.
As for Gareth I am proud of how he has played for Aston Villa, he probably feels let down like I Do
Well I will be singing on Saturday
You Have Taken our Seats
So where are the Players
I hope Gareth moves to a better club than Liverpool
I think that the Freidel/ Guzan idea could very well work for us but i must admit that i'm disappointed that we didn't go for Boruc. He looked great at the Euros.
andyanarchist...
that tv is mine and no matter how many DVD'S and train sets you have, it wont beat the offer i'm about to make theprimeminster.
Evil Kneival with broken windy-up thing, Tom Stone and Eagle Eyes Action Man, Deserter (empty box), full Subbuteo team including corner kicker and throw in man plus £50...beat that then !
And if you think that nan was a fan's pushchair is coming your way, jog on mate. We've already agreed on a Shakin Stevens tape and Ker plunk swap deal.
MON should note my bargaining skills.
atlas...your boyfriend seems to have done one. Please ease up on the love messages for jazmundo for all our sakes. I commented previously, hoping not to sound homophobic, that other teams fans may think all of us Villa fans are that way inclined if those kind of greetings are constantly on our site. No offence geezer.
Up the Villa for Saturday...let's hope we find a defence from somewhere !
UTV ;)
I HAVE NO TV, It was a joke there's no volume button, but for that price you can't turn it down... get it ... can't turn it down...
Villafandan - I think the metaphor works better 'diary' style as the media are invasive and drew it out of him.
Arrlui - they invaded him all the way in florida by phone. let's give the man some credit... he's a 28 year old club captain, i think he knows how to hang up on someone.
AVMark, i don't presume to know what the majority of players would say or do in barry's situation. i do know that of the 100's, if not 1,000's, of transfers gone through over the last several seasons outbursts like barry's are pretty few and far between. the evidence wouldn't appear to back up your assertion that barry's behaviour is somehow normal.
publicly denigrating your current employer is generally a bit of a no no isn't it?? i wouldn't mind so much if what he said had some sense behind it, but it was just plain bizarre and irrational IMO. further, it was hugely disrespectful to the fans who have paid his wages over the years.
Villafandan. I understand where you are coming from. I wasn't commenting on Barry's behaviour. I was commenting on how naive us fans are. Barry was wrong in his article to the NOTW and he has been punished. But that aside he IS one of our most honest and loyal performers with an enviable track record.
Let's not forget he is public enemy number one because he has been honest. Let me assure you there are far worse in the Villa camp who do not give a toss about the club.
That's the irony. He exposed the truth when we as fans would much rather have the badge kissing charade.
In response to theprimeministers post in reply to my original one stating the following:
"We have moved from 16th to 11th in the first season and now 6th in the second.
What do you want as evidence?"
Thanks for pointing this out - after having a season ticket for 25 years I really needed clarification on where we finished in the league!
Martin O'Neill has admitted that we massively over-acheived last season - that means he was expecting us to finish mid table and finishing any higher was actually just good fortune. If you think the current team is going to finish 6th or higher this season you must be insane. If MON had pulled out the stops to sign a winger and some full backs we may have finished even higher last year - that isn't even good management - thats common sense!
To quote you again:
"AGAIN we've gone from escaping relegation to European football in two seasons.... shall we sack MON and sell all our players because we're never gonna fill the trophy cabinet?"
Getting into the Intertoto cup, although technically classed as European Football, isn't actually the brilliant acheivement that you seem to think it is. Correct me if I am wrong but Fulham narrowly missed out on an Intertoto place last season despite finishing 17th!
MON says that he knows exactly what needs to be done and will do it - this is brilliant and if he remains true to his word and we go into the season fully staffed then I will be a happy man, until I see these signings though, I have every right to sceptical. Barry wanting a move is a massive indication that we are a long way from paying Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs prices for players - if MON can't convince his captain that good times are on the horizon then that suggests a season of mediocrity beckons.
AGAPE PEOPlE AGAPE
Looks like MON will start GB on sat and the impression i get from the interview with sky sports today is that he would be willing to forgive and forget and keep GB.How do you lot feel about that? As suspected seems the Alonso deal not going ahead has all but ended Liverpools chance of signing him.

When and where did he say this?? I never saw it and would be intrigued to read it. All I've ever heard him say is that at the end of the season we will be where we deserve to be.
Pop a link on or something so we can have a look.
I think MON would be right if he sees fit to play Barry on Sat. Maybe this could be the ideal time for Barry to show if he's a pro or not. He can say sorry for all that's happened - I never meant it this way but I need a new challenge but up until that happens I will give my all and pay back the fans for the 10 years support they've given me not the other way round.
Either way I'd like all this sorted as its all a bit boring now!
All I'm interested in is Villa getting into Europe Proper and getting some players in pronto.
I will stand corrected Perhaps MON was not being Vindictive he just wants him to play even stay

i think you mean fulham almost qualified for the first qualifying round of the UEFA cup via the fair play league?? not really comparable with us qualifying by position.
@ AVMark... i getcha and you're getting close to understanding why so many fans feel betrayed by barry. i don't think it's his desire to play at the highest level, i'm sure most can understand that, especially in the relatively short career of a pro footballer. it isn't the club he wishes to do that with, although i personally don't get why he'd want to join the chaos at liverpool. it's the way he has conducted himself during this whole saga, which started with him talking about "having to be selfish" prior to any bid from liverpool and culminated with the NoTW interview. which, as you say, is out of character with the gareth barry we all thought we knew.
i personally find some of the things he has said offensive. sure he's been docked a couple of weeks wages, but i'm assuming he meant what he said. unless he apologises for what he's said, how can he be welcomed back??
for what it's worth, and there's many forum users that will back me up on this, i've always rated him as one of our best and most important players and wanted him to stay.... right up until that interview.
I'm with villamitch - Barry was a centre part of the Villa Revolution. But he turned Yellow with that interview!
Lets be honest about the GB Situation
We finished 6th Last season it could have been 10th
If we repeat that feat again (With the Current Squad????) we will still be 6th in the que for a few places.
I had the scousers calling the Tune they may have no money but they have a superior squad at present as the records show.
We will be out of all competitions again by Xmas and for all the talk during the Closed windows again we have failed to deliver during the transfer period.
The EM Survey goes to show how PR has convinced the Majority of the fans
All we can hope for now is the Luck of the Irish
tolo av33 i am a nice young lady and resent you calling me a homo have you seen jazmundo lately he is hot jealousey will get you no where
As a Red fan I think some of you are sad. He has done a good job for Villa & wants to move on. Let him move & look at the bigger picture. You have alot of good young players & home grown as well. Who have you brought for this season ?. Not going to make great shakes in the prem (Brad F). So where is your yank with the money ?. Same place as ours. There is not alot there.Alsono or Barry. I would go for Alonso 100%. Torres cost Liverpool about 21 mil. Barry 18 mil. I don't think so. I hope he moves to the Gunners but they don't buy older players. So you will have him until the end of the season & he will buy out his contact so MON will get sod all. Great bit of thinking MON. So when MON goes to Man U as there new manager & then takes your younger players. What will you say then.
Anyway have a good season you Villa & I hope you do but watch out for MON he will stab you in the back. (the writting is on the wall. Man U )
@ Red but never dead....one word:- deluded.
Villafandan - I agree with you about the article. I guess it's my old age, and a certain amount of contact I have with professional players, but I don't cheer players or boo them. I just support the team and applaud good play when I see it. I have a very low expectation of them so maybe that's why the whole Barry thing doesn't bother me.
Let's face it though there's always a large percentage of fans with rabble mentality - the ones who would be queueing overnight for a public execution who will boo Barry purely for the pleasure. If a player struts the right pose and says the right thing e.g. Lee Hendry he will get worshiped even though he wasted his talent and gave nothing to the club. Yeah I know different debate!
Waking up this morning, I decided before I see Aston Villa beat Odense in style I'll decided to finaly make my mind up about Gareth Barry, he's been one of our most consistent players over the last few years and espeicaly had the Ronaldo touch last season, If the lad wants to go, let him go. BUT since I hope MON is bringing in the old Loyalty into this club I wouldn't mind Barry doing an interview stateing he wants to leave the club, BUT will help us get into the UEFA cup first, a nice kiss of the badge a bit of shirt pulling David Beckham style, and a wave to the Holte. Then I belive he'l get a Melberg Goodbye.
( But as soon as he comes back in a Liverpool shirt im sure Bouma will aim a few at his shins the traitoring basterd :p )
at Red but never dead......wheres ur yanks with your money...lmao....ur team is havin to pick pocket people around scouseland
The results of the poll seem to say exactly what most Villa fans are feeling. We would love to see Gareth stay.
A midfield of Young, Barry, Sidwell, (Bentley or Wright-Phillips)would be one of the best around. We would probably have to turn Reo-Coker into a right-back.
