Carew out for four to six weeks

Monday, 24 September 07, 11:33 AM · Comments (10)

I was looking out for it and it came from a user of the site commenting on the article from last night. Aston Villa striker John Carew is expected to be out for up to six weeks.

Let's hope Marlon Harewood is up to the task of replacing him and let's hope he does a good enough job that it's not automatic that Carew gets his place back.

According to the poster, Carew sent a text message to the Norway manager informing him of the news.

Also, according to Sky Sports this time, Carew told Dagbladet "I will be out for four to six weeks."

While I'm disappointed, as I explained last night, I'm also hopeful that Marlon Harewood will do the business. He's certainly keen to prove himself.

If this is true, that Carew is out for up to six weeks, when do you think the club will tell us?

I'm sure that the club will post the information as soon as they have every detail finalized.

Having to sit out 4-6 weeks will certainly hurt the team; we can't easily replace someone of Carew's quality. That said, I do think that Harewood can do a better job than people think. And he may not even be the one to start. We may see Moore and Gabby play together, just as they did on Sunday.

It's just that journalists and reporters are normal people in Norway. If a guy in Dagbladet calls Carew and ask him how he is doing, Carew says hello and how are u doing, before explaining the situation. The fair approaches from the conservative media means there's a fine tone and 2-way respect in this picture.

And it's just a gutshot indication, the full prognosis won't be available till later this week. But I am glad cause the newspapers here is writing quite much about Villa now as Carew is here.

Bit of a blow but will be nice to see harewood play a couple of games the big carew fans want to hope marlon dosnt start bangin em in from left right and center because carew would then become a bench man...

Lucy, definately not a shame that were not spurs, spending 30mil and sitting in 17th on the table about to have their manager fired...........Stuff Defoe, i keep saying it, hes overrated, big time. We already have a handful of strikers of similar build/skill but more creativity. Defoe is a goal poacher not creator, i believe you always need a combination pairing up front. A smaller quicker striker, who will trouble with pace along with a taller ball winning striker who can get his head to the ball and hold play up.....I just hope Marlon is up to it

Even with Carew out, I don't think Marlon Harewood is his automatic replacement at the moment. I think MON will play Gabby up front before selecting Harewood, with Gardner, Maloney, Petrov or Berger coming in to replace him.

Having said that, Harewood might get his chance against Leicester.

Its certainly not as bad as it could have been. As MON said we have the international break so he will only miss 3 villa games (including tonight) i think Harewood should get a start tonight and if he impresses should be a shoe in for the next few games.
