Martin O'Neill is refusing to rule out a move for Celtic pair Shaun Maloney and Bobo Balde according to the Daily Record this morning.
Maloney is a young talent who according to reports is refusing to sign a new deal at Celtic or it could be that he's waiting until the summer.
If it's a case of he wants to join Martin O'Neill Celtic may let the player leave in January for a small fee rather than for nothing at the end of the season.
Balde is a central defender and we have previously been linked with the player in a £1.5mn. bid but let's just wait and see. The Daily Record is a sister paper to the Mirror so this speculation comes with a government warning.

You can have Bobo but shaun is far too good a player for Aston Villa, playing alongside Sutton, Petrov, Agathe.
Hes done that already and these guys have been replaced with better players so he'll stay with the hoops
by the way have to agree with the warning about the source of this rumour
i dont think villa should go after these players, they are unproven in high standard leagues like the premiership, we should be after experienced english premier league players, for example bobo balde and shaun maloney.
Not a fan of Bobo Balde, he was shocking against Man U in the Champions League and I can't say much for Maloney as I haven't seen much of him.
SWP and Darren Bent is the signing's I would love personally and i'm sure most Villa fans would love them too!
MON was great for Celtic, but at times I think heâ€s not a great judge of a playerâ€s ability. That he thought Balde was worth bringing to Celtic in the first place was strange, that he then later thought that big bobo was worth giving a lucrative long-term contract to, was stranger still. That he is now contemplating buying him again is just amazing. Still as a Celtic fan I will be glad to see the back of him as it will free up some funds for better players (Balde in on £30k a week).
Maloney is a different matter. Heâ€s come on a long way since MON left Celtic. Not world class, but a very good player nonetheless. Iâ€ve heard a rumour more than once that Celtic believe that Maloney is desperate to stay in Glasgow, therefore they donâ€t have to up their current offer to him. I would have thought that with Randyâ€s cash Villa would be ready to go for more high profile signings anyway.
that celtic fan that question MON bringing Balde to the club is off his head. Bobo was a one man defence on his way to the Uefa Cup final, you can count the mistakes he has made in 6 years on one hand, he has made guys like Elber, Owen, Shevchenko, Eto'o and Makaay look like wee boys.
if you doubt his pedigree watch Celtic's European games. He regularly saved us from humpings with his sheer presence, pace and determination, he's desperate with the ball at his feet but you'll need something very special to get past him.
maloneys has had one very good season after showing plenty of promise, has been poor this season but has had injury problems.
P.S hows Agathe doing down there, surprised he isn't getting a run at right back. This is the same guy who had Ronaldinho in his back pocket on 4 seperate occassions
Just goes to show that 2 people can go to the same game and come away with completely different opinions. Balde cost Celtic the UEFA cup final by getting sent off, and lost us a place in the last 16 of the champions league a few years back against Lyon by giving away a penalty with 5 minutes left. The guys a complete liability and I know I am not alone amongst Celtic fans in thinking that. Celtic are perfectly happy to listen to offers for him… says it all!
"i dont think villa should go after these players, they are unproven in high standard leagues like the premiership, we should be after experienced english premier league players, for example bobo balde and shaun maloney."
Sam, what are you trying to say hear? Give us peace, man, and at least try to make sense! So you don't want to go for Balde & Maloney because they are unproven in the Premiership, and you'd rather go for experienced English Premier League players like Balde & Maloney??? Erm, what drugs do you imbue down Birmingham way?
For the record, Balde has run his course for Celtic, but I can see him doing fairly well for a middling Premiership side like Villa. He's cocked up once too often in Europe now for us (Lyon, Porto), but he's hardly going to get the opportunity of making mistakes in Europe if he signs for Villa. He'll do well against teams in the EPL of a similar standard- Bolton, Manchester City, Wigan etc- and it's these games you need to concentrate on to try and cement a top ten spot.
As for Maloney? He's far too good. If he leaves Celtic, he'll probably go to a team with European aspirations, not one content to draw their way into the next century. Marin O'Neill- Celtic legend, but I fear he's lost a bit of his pizazz since going south. Petrov made a big mistake leaving us- one of THE biggest sides in the world- and he'll soon come to miss the big European nights, although he may well console himself with the extra pocket money he's getting from Randy.
"refusing to rule out a move" . . . what does that mean? That such a move is logical or imperative? Aston Villa needs an energetic striker--Sutton is over the hill and Baros is a "no show" most of the time. Also, when is the EPL going to institute a salary cap of some kind? It is absurd the way Chelsea and Man U stockpile talent, and make it a 2-way race . . . and the season is only half-way over. Yawn. When is there going to be a fan (or the other 18-team) revolt? It's sad when the only interesting "contest" is for relegation. Workers of the world, unite! You have only your chains to lose.
Players for Celtic get bored as most games are easy in the Scottish Prem, Petrov has said that himself!
Europe must be brilliant for Celtic tho but the League is the bread and butter and its just not good enough!
Paul Telfer plays for Celtic, that is rubbish!
balde would be the ideal signing for villa, he has had plenty of european and premiership experience and is a great leader. when celtic won the champions league against arsenal it was balde who scored the double to win the game. i doubt hed be frances manager if he was no good and if we signed him for 100 million it would be an absolute bargain, with him pushing for a place in goal it would have our usual number one keeper, van nistelrooy, on his toes and watching his feet. as for maloney i dont see the benefit of bringing in the walcotts older brother just because he related to fabio capello. as for what Green Griffin said about making giving alex ferguson a contract as backup for our squad i dont know what hes on, if he doesn't remember correctly that thierry henry is actually the arsenal goalkeeper then he will see where he is going wrong. does anyone know anything more on the rumour of villa trying to sign alex bruce, i hear hes going on a free after scoring 23 own goals in two games for real madrid, sounds like a good signing to me, cant wait to see him in a claret and orange shirt, it must run in the bruce family playing for villa, first maradonna and now paul scholes.
