Chelsea banter, a 15 year old kid from Barnsley and a simple request about leaving a comment

Sunday, 05 October 08, 11:28 AM · Comments (11)

I had a few bets yesterday and still have a few outstanding and I'm up, up in a very nice way, so I'm quite happy with things at the moment and really looking forward to Chelsea later. It's also Sunday, which is my favourite day of the week, so things are good.

If Arsenal had won yesterday I'd have made a further profit of £75 so it could have been a little better, but Arsenal are not the team I thought they were and for what it's worth, we could go three points ahead of them by close of business today.

Hell, if Liverpool don't win at Manchester City, we could be top by two points by close of business, it could be a really good day, but on to Chelsea this afternoon.

Chelsea are potentially without a group of players, that could go join Stoke and probably still win the league this season, if they remained fit, so this is a good time to be playing them, but as Petrov has just said on the radio - this could also spur on their other players to work that little bit harder and every player they have in the squad seems to be world class.

But I think we can go there and do it, because I think we were very unlucky not to have won last season and could have won the season before and as such, an Aston Villa win is in a few of my bets today and not just my straight fiver to win. But with my profits from yesterday I've gone a bit crazy with bets today - as I reckon it's going to be a good day.

Anyway, we have a rumour from the News of the World today about a 15 year old kid from Barnsley. His name is Reuben Noble-Lazarus and apparently we're leading the race for him. According to the paper it will cost £2mn. and well, it's not my money, so what do I care?

Now, you know I love Wikipedia and according to the font of all knowledge, he's the youngest every player, at 15 years and 45 days, to play in a football league match and he's played for the Barnsley under 18 team since he was 12 years old - anyone that can do that must be a little special.

But that's it for today for now, we'll be doing the live match commentary later, but I do have a request about the comments facility below, that I just want to mention because it is something we're going to start to moderate because they're getting a little out of control.

The point of leaving a comment is to comment on what I or someone else has posted and it's not a free for all to discuss whatever you want - it makes it a little difficult for others to comment if it's going to get sandwiched in between a bit of banter about the size of some birds breasts or something else that has been discussed recently in the comments form.

I'm all for talking breasts and any other type of banter - but we have a forum for that and if you're registered, you can use it. If a comment is left which has absolutely nothing to do with the original post whatsoever, it's going to get deleted from now on - only because it will in the end make the site better for everyone.

Right, I'm off. Back in a few hours, but for now, go forth and drink beer!

Been reading with interest that Fat Frank and the red top rags don't give us much chance today, niiiice!!
In fact they don't give us much chance of breaking the top for monopoly either, schmucks!!
My fiver went to the bookies on friday for a Villa win, and another fiver on them as part of a roll up, so lets hope we can do the business on both counts.

This ain't gunna be read now cos this is an old post Damian....Only has 9 replies I see also....!!!!

I'll start on the Barnsley lad. Being a Barsley chap myself I can say at least Vill awould get a bloke that ain't scared of a bit of muck, graft, ridicule about where he comes from and the odd whack around the earhole...! He'll be as honest as the day is long and tell it like it is also. That said I have not seen him play, but my nephew knows him and I hear he's a bit special. So I'll nip round and see young Reuben and tell him all about Villa. While I'm on this subject my nephew is 18 plays for Wednesday youth team and is a Villa fan (he's got his uncle Andy to thank for that ;) ) Anyway he's been touted as the Gordon Banks of keepers..! May be two Barnsley lads coming to the claret and blue?

Regarding the 'keeping to the subject of posts' I could not agree more to a certain extent. However some posts tend to run a bit dry and there does seem to be some opening to inject a bit of humour into the proceedings. I do think you will be playing with fire on this matter because I can see a lot individuals will be moving away from this blog if that's strictly enforced Damian. I can understand the bebo and facebook banter being moderated and especially the foul language, but the odd bit of light humour between users is what make sthis place diferent to vital etc...I'll ceryainly be taking my business elsewhere if it's that strictly enforced and I'm a AVFCBlog advocate of the first order. Only a bit of constructive feedback Damian..!
