Chelsea v Aston Villa: Live text commentary, of sorts

Sunday, 05 October 08, 08:23 AM · Comments (5)

End Of Match: We were given a lesson today. Thankfully it was only 2.

90' (+1): Reo-Coker just shrugged off Ashley Cole - had a shot but wide.

90' (+1): Nearly over lads and only 2-0. Could have been a lot worse.

83': Apologies for not posting much in the second half but we have been average adn when it's clear to see it's very difficult to write anything positive.

78': Yellow for Petrov. Freekick to CHelsea 30 yards out, right in front of goal. We have been poor today.

71': Harewood on for Carew.

69': The commentator on TV is talking about Barry and not having a good game, in fact he said poor, but this is typical Barry. Play against a team in the top four and he bottles it. Bottles it probably isn't the right word, he's just not good enough to play in te top four. Sorry, just my opinion again.

68': Yellow card for big Carlos. He does look good you know.

64':

Just in case anyone didn't know, if results stay the saem Hull will be 4th by the end of the day. I'm all for Spurs getting relegated - they probably won't but it would be nice.

Nothing to write about in this game - we're under teh kosh and they are going to score more.

63': The German hits it over from 8 yards. We are still in it, just.

61': We had a chance. Gabby had the ball on the right and all he had to do was pick a man out, instead he hits it too long for Carew. Cech was out of his goal. We are gettin gbetter though. Still cant see why we paid £12mn. for Milner. If he's worth £12mn. I'm worth one or two.

55': were coming into this game. It's all good and big Carlos is looking very decent. Joe Cole is coming off, not nice for him, but pretty good for us as he's been excellent for them.

48': Barry had a chance then to create something but his distribution was too slow. When you're playing against Chelsea or any of the big teams, you need to be quicker.

Half Time: I've got a feeling they'll be more fight from us in this half and while I don't want to question O'Neill, I think it would have been a better option to take off a striker rather than a defender and put a midfielder in defence. Still, if we win 3-2 I'll eat my words.

Half Time: Carlos is on for big Curtis and Milner is on for Luke Young.

Half Time: Carlos and Milner coming on for the second half.

Half Time: Lets hope we come out for the second half and play. As it stands now, we're getting taught a lesson.

45': Only one extra minute. Man City are 2 up against Liverpool too. Nice ...

43': Two wonderful saves from Friedel but it wasn't enough. Every time he knocks it out and the last time it landed at Anelka - who shot and scored. We're getting taught a lesson today and it's not about heart or football. It's about quality.

36': Reo-Coker shouldered the German midfielder out the way, proper football, but it's a foul. Handbags ref.

32': Martin O'Neill is reading the site. gabby has gone onto the right wing/midfield, Carew is upfront by himself and Reo-Coker is in the middle with Barry and Petrov.

28': We could be 3 or 4 down in this game and unless we fix the midfield issue we will be soon. It's one way traffic, to use a phrase I've just heard from the TV.

25': Anelka hits the cross bar from 30 yards. He beat Friedel. We are lucky.

25': If five in midfield is good enough for Chelsea, I think it's good enough for us. We're losing out because they've got an extra man in the game - Gabby and Carew are not defenders and can't be expected to defend or track back.

23': Mikel, as good as a free man in midfield just had a shot from 45 yards. He had so much space he didn't know what to do.

21': We're getting overrun in midfield. If you look back you'll see I said that earlier; we can't play with two up front against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Not today anyway .. we need to see a change if we're to stand any chance.

20': Carew shot from 30 yards - didn't trouble anyone, let alone the Chelsea keeper. He's scored 8 in his past 11 Premier League games. Joe Cole scores - 1-0 to Chelsea.

18': Barry has a shot from outside the box and it goes wide and high. I could have saved it had it been on target - he didn't make the right type of connection.

17': I swear I just thought far Frank scored - but he hit the side netting instead. Poor fat Frank.

13':

We seem to be getting to grips with Chelsea but we need to do something in midfield - we're losing out to the German, fat Frank and Mikel.

I alos gotta tell you, I'm a big fan of Abramovich, don't know why I'm telling you that, but his face just popped up on TV - no doubt he's a bad man, but look at what he's done in just a few years - Chelsea aside.

12': The corner gets headed out and Petrov does his best to shoot, but it doesnt' come off. We get a throw in that Nick Shorey is taking.

12': We have a corner. We're getting into this...

10': Chelsea really should have had a goal - no they shouldn't it was offside .. still, it's all Chelsea.

10': The German hits it against the wall.

9': Carew fouls the German midfielder for Chelsea, less than 30 yards out - what he was doing there is another question - but Chelsea have a free kick.

8': It's mostly all Chelsea at the moment but you'd expect that seeing as they're at home and have so much talent. Chelsea are not letting us settle when we do get the ball - although it will come.

7': Malouda just had a shot from 30 odd yards this time; maybe Chelsea will be having a few shots from distance today ...

6': We scored six goals against Chelsea last season - I can see goals today. Can't smell anything yet, but I've got a feeling.

5': Fine save from Friedel - great strike from the German midfielder at Chelsea but big Brad got to it.

4': It was offside - but Carew did get on it ..

4': Free kick, 30 odd yards out. John Carew will be looking to get on this.

1':

This game is about soaking up Chelsea and breaking. We can do it, because we've done it against Chelsea. It's going to be all about Chelsea, but have a look at who is starting; Cech, Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Terry, Ashley Cole, Mikel, Joe Cole, Ballack, Lampard, Malouda and Anelka.

Every one of those players would probably walk into any Premier League team - injuries, I don't think are an issue for Chelsea.

1': Right - we're off!

Before Kick Off: John Terry is fit - he's leading Chelsea out.

Before Kick Off:

Right, it's wet and windy - perfect conditions for a bit of excitement. I've got a feeling in my gut that we're going to do it today.

Scolari is out sitting on the bench while the teams are lining up in the tunnel.

Before Kick Off: Right, I'm settling in. Got my beer and crisps and the TV is on and ready.

Before Kick Off: I'm going to do my best to keep this up this afternoon but there are no promises. However at around kick off we'll be moving this to the match centre so it will be easier to follow and you don't all read my garbage through the match anyway ... either way, I'll do my best. There is the option, if you're registered of starting you own commentary - why not give it a go?

Before Kick Off:

Some team news and while a surprise Milner isn't starting there really isn't a surprise with who Martin O'Neill has picked.

Friedel, L Young, Shorey, Davies, Laursen, Reo-Coker, A Young, Barry, Petrov, Agbonlahor, Carew. Subs: Guzan, Knight, Cuellar, Milner, Routledge, Harewood, Gardner.

Before Kick Off: Afternoon all, we're here and ready to go. I've got money on this and to make it even more interesting, I'm going to start drinking about ... now!
