It's confirmed by the New York Red Bulls. As I finished this there was still nothing from the official site but it's now confirmed by Aston Villa.
There is a live conference call on NewYorkRedBulls.com and Juan Pablo is talking as we speak from Villa Park.
I'm sorry to go on about this Angel thing today but he is a player I've always liked.
We've just heard that Angel expects to be able to join up with the squad in the next couple of days, so no send off for the player, which is quite sad.
Good luck Juan Pablo, many of us now have a team in the US to follow and all we need now is a pre-season match to give you a proper send off.
I would like to thank Martin O'Neil, Aston Villa and especially the supporters who have always made me so welcome and I will always have great memories of my time at the club. I wish the Club well for the future - Juan Pablo Angel, April17th 2007

an awful footballer. Will not be missed.
to the user who said he was awful, shut up, he may not had the talent of some, but he gave his heart so many times, and for those who are greatful of his services, will never forget his first goal that helped sent down the sky blues, or his stunning carling cup goal vs chelsea, i for one wont forget him
He was awful. One good season, 62 goals in 205 games, £9.5m and £40,000. one word AWFUL
>:(
Angel will be missed, this is a forced sell after Villa spent a whopping £9.65Million on Ashley Young. I sicerely doubt Angel could have possibly missed the number of chances Young has so far, in fact my Nan who is dead is a better striker than Young, but he continues to be picked and a very good striker leaves the club to score a bucket load of goals in the US and A. ....peter crouch all over again. There was no need to buy Young no need to sell Angel or Baros. The need is in midfield where it has been since David Platt left, yes its that long since we had an international class midfielder. there is no point putting a roof on a house with no walls!
If you can remember Tony Morley you'd cry to think the money we waste on mediocre talent these days...just watch the 1982 final again...
Angel will always be a villa legend and always be in the clubs history
and deserves one last game for the club
Spoamr you know nothing about football. Give me the stats of every other striker we have had at the same time as angel. You will find that we have had no better. He was a good player playing in a poor side. With better service and a more intelligent team around him he would have average 15-20 a season. Now crawl back under your dirty little rock
angel was always a good player in his first six months he had it tough and he had two good seasons not just one. 16 goals in his first full season isnt so bad and 23 in his third. i think he was a class player and wish him all the best. he hasnt got the pace for the premiership, so the slower pace in the states will suit him and his class will show. his ball control was always good. his best goal was against bolton in the semi final of the league cup we lost, but his goal where turned and meged the sliding defender and then lobbed the keeper from the biline will always be one of my favorite. give ashley young time he will come good and you will eat your words.
you and graham taylor changed how villa operated with new players.you and mrs angel were treated shabbily but you never moaned publicly and showed true class.every new player should thank you for the way they are now looked after.good luck juan
Goodbye JP. You are a great player and the ultimate professional. For someone living in Canada I can tell you that you will be warmly greeted and well taken care of in the US, as will your family.
I believe your talents were sadly unappreciated. The combination of Moore, Agbondlahor and yourself , had Moore remained fit , would be one of the premier threats and success stories of the Premier league this year.
Your only mistake was to have the knee surgery in South America. The botched job took a yard off your pace and at the speed of today's game this was critical. The skills are still there though and the Red Bulls will benefit enormously from you talent.
thank u angel for everything uve done 4 us.uve done very well working under bad managers and some very poor team mates u had in ur time at villa pk.u were class and a utter professional.enjoy ur life in the big usa hope u do well 4 urself and ud deserve 1 last game 4 villa so the fans can show their appreaction good luck.thanks again
Agree with SPOAMR. The money that was put Angel's way was a disgrace. He should never have been given another contract, and at £40k per week it was a criminal waste of resources. Little wonder he thanks Aston Villa, we made a very very average footballer a very very rich man indeed. I for one will not miss him.
Markshark.. are you living under a rock?? Angel is 31 and fading fast - we didnt get a penny for selling him so how can that be a forced sell?? And as for Milan Baros. He clearly wanted out. Young will come good and is a buy for the future. You clearly have jumped onto the villa bandwagon since the lerner takeover and know nothing of what has gone on in the last few seasons and, even worse, nothing about this season.
Its always baffled me that such money could be spent on a player who needed the ball delivered millimeter perfect to score a goal. A player who very rarely if ever created goals himself out of nothing. Lets hope theres some midfield robots with laser precision passing and uber cool haircuts for him in new york to feed off.
Good Luck Juan.
:)Hello there you villains, I am an Arsenal supporter on your website, lets talk about Angel then - Angel was a great striker and probably should have moved on when he had the chance, I've seen alot of Villa games over recent years and boy don't they lack creativity, with no disrespect they are a very boring team to watch. If Angel had been playing for the Arsenal over the last three years he would have solved a huge problem for us scoring GOALS. Okay he's not the paciest striker around but within the five yard area his finishing is lethal and unfortunately Villa lacked alot of creativity which he suffered from. Good luck Angel.
I had said recently that McCann was a problem in the Villa side due to his lack of pace and terrible passing accuracy. Low and behold without him the team has posted some wins at last. Dynamo's like Gardner and Davis free up Petrov to be more creative. Keep him out MON.
good luck JP. thanks for the service
