Could the new right back for Aston Villa be Nelson?

Wednesday, 22 August 07, 01:22 PM · Comments (17)

Aston Villa were on the verge of signing Benfica right back Nelson for a little over £2.7mn. until the club took a little too long. Now Sevilla have shown an interest and the price has gone up.

Sevilla have shown an interest because the club are convinced they are going to lose current right back Daniel Alves.

As soon as Sevilla showed some interest, Benfica upped the price, which has now frightened off Martin O'Neill.

I don't know that much about Nelson but I do know that Martin O'Neill has now shown interest in two right backs and due to what can only be described as wasting time the price has gone up and it appears the club are not willing to pay, despite what we are led to believe.

Rest assured, we'll get a right back and a few more players but we're two games in to the season and it looks like we'll have to wait until three games in.

Top right back, shame Villa always seem to hesitate. Roma are after him too.

What are the sources for these rumours?

I'm not saying they aren't true, but my guess is no-one apart from a select few, knows what's going on and that's why the papers aren't printing anything anymore.
I'll wait and see :)

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill could be set to make his third signing of the summer by bringing West Bromwich Albion defender Curtis Davies to Villa Park.

Radio BBC WM are reporting that a fee of £8 million has been agreed between the two clubs and Villa boss Martin O'Neill will now be allowed to discuss personal terms with the player.

The signing will fit in well with O'Neills policy of buying young British talent. With the likes of Ashley Young, Nigel Reo-Coker and Gabriel Agbonlahor in the Villa squad already, the future core of the England side looks like it is being constructed at Villa Park.

SOUNDS PROMMISING
