There is so much I want to write about tonight, I don't know where to begin. I think I'll start with the David Dunn thing.
None of us know this for sure, but even if he does like men, is it really something we should be singing about? I hope we don't sing about his weight or his sexuality again. There really should be no place for this in football.
But onto the match. I didn't want Marlon Harewood to score his first league goal for us and his 100th league goal tonight because I really wanted to sing his praises for his professionalism. However, he did and he loved it, as did all of the Villa players on the pitch. It was nice to see.
The game wasn't the best I've seen but we took our chances. I think overall we probably had two or three more shots on goal more than we scored. We were more clinical and more focused; it definitely looked like we knew what we were doing.
Scott Carson had one save to make, from a Blackburn free kick and he made it. If he was scored on his performance tonight it should be 10 out of 10 because there was nothing more he could have done.
Carew scored the first in the 29th minute from a cross, it was simple but very effective. There was some nice work from Petrov on the right in the 36th minute but the ball just didn't seem to sit up for Carew and nothing came of it.
The second goal, a penalty by Barry after Blackburn captain Ryan Nelsen was sent of for pulling back Gabby, pretty much put the game to bed but it also saw us play more composed football. The extra man helped.
The third goal came from some lovely football down the right flank from Mellberg who took on two or three players and crossed for Young to score from just outside the box.
At this stage I was starting to write up my notes but then out of the blue, Harewood came on for Gabby, who picked up a knock.
After about two minutes the ball dropped to him in the box and he smashed it into the net to make it four.
That's the first time in seven years we've won four on the bounce and we're now in 6th place. Are you as happy as I am? Leave your comments below.

;D sweet dreams tonight, roll on Saturday
what a result. And to think I was bricking it at 1-0 worrying about keeping the lead! I'm a happy man now. Any news on Gabby's knock? Was it just precautionary taking him off?
Agree with you about the homophobic chanting.
Absolutely wicked. No doubt Blackburn fans will moan about the 'offside' goal. But who can blame a fan for doing that..?
Wicked performance in front of goal, terrible performance by Blackburn when they got in front of ours.
for some reason the name space was filled in and the name was josh LOL great result but for me it seems that every villa player is getting praise except for bouma and to be honest i think he has played a big part for us over the season maybe not as big as laursen or mellberg but he truely is an unsung hero for me, great result now bring on arsenal
Well happy watched the game on the net, thought Barry and Petrov where great. Im gutted though cos i had £50 on Gabby anytime scorer at 3/1, i was sure he would score! Up the Villa.
...Erm, my name isn't Tim Chatterly..why is that appearing for me? Sor' It Aat, Damian (Cockney impression) ;D ;)
great result, just a right winger/back in jan, things are looking good
BBC sport says Carson made 3 good saves and im glad to see the Croatia thing hasnt affected him. The stats said Blackburn had 12 shots to our 5 and we still ran out 4-0 winners. We have been the victims of not taking our chances before and it looks the same for Blackburn tonight.
Apprently according to someone on 606 we have better away form than Man U so far this season, would anyone have believed that.
Hope gabby isnt too injured as we will definatly need him against the Gunners to stand any chance but tbh i wouldnt mind losing to Arsenal as long as we bounce back against pompey.
UTV
Yes, i had josh on mine too. Had to log in again! Weird!! Oh well who cares. Mon is god!
Superb result, never would have thought it.
One negative...people are starting to suggest MON will receive the Manager of the Month award, and we all know the luck that brings!
Oh well, had to do this...MON for MOM!
Awesome result tonight..we are turning over these teams with ease..i think we are doing a bit of a man u-winning when we are not playing great...but i love it..the glory days are back at villa park..and if we beat arsenal at the weekend...euphoria! UTV! get in there...David gotDunne up the arse!
too late for martin to be manager of the month B.S. .. it was given to mark hughes. ohh the irony
MON always my MOM
now i had joseph on my name thing LOL timC what website did you watch the game on
Gabby has a cut on his ankle. Hopefully they can keep the swelling down, but it might be that he won't be ready in time to start on Saturday, so instead might be on the bench. Might be a chance for Moore or Harewood to take their chance, though I know who i'd put upfront.
Fantastic win tonight.....were on the up. Big test at the weekend. Good time to get Arsenal...if there is one. They may be starting to shake.
Absoloutley made up, Petrov looked fantastic! showed some sublime touches and got back and did his share of defending aswell. Gabby was the only one who did'nt show his class tonight. We could'nt be goin into saturday in a better spirit! oh roll on Jan!
UTV!!!!!
To think if we didnt implode against Spurs we would be 2nd! But us Villa fans dont live in the past, mainly due to the fact that it hasnt been as good as this for a while! Massive game this weekend, i dont think i will have looked forward to a game as much as this.....
Great day to be a Villa fan.
Can't wait till Saturday and a full Villa Park. Our characteristic slow start might be a problem against Arsenal, so I hope they are at the races early on. Straight back to the boozer for the rest of the day if they win.
U.T.V
is it possible to go second at the weekend if all above us lose?
theoretically its possible .. we'd need to score a few but i cant see it happening - wont MON have won manager of the month by then - isnt that where it all goes wrong? ;)
Absolutely superb, thought Bouma and Barry were superb, Barry in particular oozed class in the 2nd half and Petrov continued his good form.
4 wins on the bounce is a huge result and sets us up nicely for the next 4-5 tricky fixtures we have.
Apparently I'm Gary - it's been going on since the site changes so I'm assuming it's a teething problem.
Great result. Clinical finishing. We're putting teams to the sword even when we're not playing our best and this win could turn out to be a 6-pointer later in the season. It should give the lads great confidence going into the Arsenal game (let's hope Gabby shakes off his knock).
I agree about the 'homo-bashing'. I'm not so bothered about the fat thing - these guys are supposed to be professional sportsmen - but our fans (great as they've been at supporting the lads) shouldn't be joining in with homophobic slurs. It's disgusting. It's no surprise that there's only been 1 openly gay footballer. Statistically there must have been hundreds.
unbelievable result. best period for villa in a long time. slowly but surely o'neill is creating a top 4 side.
Wow, fantastic, well played the Villa and congratulations to Harewood :)
Proud, oh so proud! i feel we are witnessing this team mature like a fine wine! A Claret of course!!
And to think at one time I was worried about our away form, thanks Birmingham for helping us get on track!
I remember when we were top at christmas a few seasons ago, i feel with everyone talking about 'top 4' we are going to get carried away. I just heaed Cesc is struggling with an injury and might not make the saturday game, which will be a bonus for us. i just dont want to get too excited to see us loose 3 - 0
My user name seems to be ok.
Oh what a lovely sleep I had last night!! I caught the game on t'internet - Lancashite Post live updates - really biased comments, according to them we ought to have been 5 down at HT and he ref plyed for us.
If no Gabby, how about Wee Shaun? Marlon now has his goal, so he would probably start though. Does anyone think that Luke may be sold in the summer, it;s just a thought which came to me last night.
Bring on the Arse (not a homophobic comment).

I dont think Bring on the Arse could ever be classed as a homphobic comment, rather the opposite ;)
Is Luke Moore out of contract in July I think i read it on the forums here or someone might have been saying give him till July to prove himself, if he does well give him a new contract.
great great result!! Maybe Blackburn were the better team first half, but they didnt break us down and we got our reward for solid defending early on. Behind the top 4 blackburn is pretty much the hardest place to go away from home!!
I agree we cant get carried away looking at the league. But we have made a great start and if we get through till xmas still up there we have a pretty easy stretch of games in Jan/Feb. I just hope we are where we are now in a month.
I r'ber on Collymore's home debut Blackburn spanked us 4-0 with Sutton scoring 3- it was never a 4 nil hiding. We've finally returned the favour.
Hate playing Arsenal at home, they always seem to save their best for VP, bit like Man U. I'd be less worried playing them at the Emirates. Wud be very happy with a point off them. I think the games against Pompey and Man City are more important- those games will probably give us a better indication of whether top 6 is achieveable.
anyone have a link to the highlights? can't even find match of the day to download >:(
There's better players than moore out there. So it was only a matter of time before he goes. But fantastic result i just don't expect the same on saturday. Like i said on a post before a draw would be great that would be 7 points in week couldn't have asked for much more to be honest.
happy days. if it werent for the spurs comeback n the man utd debacle, our goal difference wud be tops too. i dont mind if we lose to arsenal, jus as long as we go down wit a bang not a whimper. i dont mean that in an unambitious way, jus want us to take it to them like we did chelsea. after sat, we hav played man u, arsenal, liverpool n chelsea at home. gotta take max points.
i agree with chrisodon re Moore. There are better players out there. I know it would be nice to keep players that have come through the system but come next summer i would like us to bring in a striker with more potential/already proven rather than keep Moore.
Chanting like that lowers us all to the level of Small Heath fans. It wasn't witty, funny, or clever, and when a team goes to bits like Rovers did it really makes us look like a bunch of chav scum bags with no class. Hearing that chanting from my tv was the only thing wrong with the game.
Absolutely great result, couldnt see all the geme due to work, but what i saw both teams looked really good passing the ball well and creating chances.
Loving the fact that petrov is startin to find some form, thats like a new signin if he starts firing every week. The usual suspects were quality and now starting to see a good understanding and partnership between aggy and big john (Barring injuries).
One massive negative thou for me was zat knight again. He really is terrible, constantly out of position and looking clumsy as hell, obviously dont like to change a winning team but zat knight was the worst player in a villa shirt by a country mile! Surely curtis davies must be better for what were paying. Dont want to burst the bubble like but i reckon arsenal will rip knight apart, bit like the man u game!!!
VILLA4EUROPE - I agree with u about knight. I just hope we get through to Jan covering for his poor performances then i assume we will buy a quality right back.
Oneil should then do everything to extend Mellberg and Laursens contracts and play them at centre back for the rest of the season.
