Last year it was honest bunch and small squad, something he had to stop but these excuses have been heard to often this season already.
During his BBC post match interview O'Leary commented on how Paul Jewell got everything out of his players today - if O'Leary can see this why can't he get the best out of his players?
It's not the first time this season that Villa have played poorly, in fact the only time he has got the best out of them was against Birmingham last weekend but was that down to him or was it down to a few players in the squad that desperately wanted the result?
He told the BBC "I don't think the lads could believe they were down at half-time considering the chances we had.
"But this game is about taking chances. I saw Arsenal lose at West Brom last week after missing a load and it was the same with us on this occasion."
O'Leary is right about goals deciding games but should he be comparing us to Arsenal? I'd rather have one goal than 20 chances and that's what he has to understand and is probably something he wants to be working on in training.
The players just don't look like they want it at the moment and there is only one person that is responsible for that.
With a tough match away to Manchester City next week I don't think the manager is going to get many more chances with Doug Ellis. It should be a very interesting week.
