David O'Leary the first to go: 14/1

Tuesday, 19 July 05, 02:23 PM · Comments (0)

William Hill yesterday released their odds for 'Who Will Be The 1st English Premier Manager To Leave His Position In 05/06 Season?'.

The really interesting part is that David O'Leary and Sir Alex Ferguson are both at 14/1.

I fancy these odds to get worse for the Aston Villa manager fairly soon if money isn't spent especially after his comments on April Fools day that 'substantial funds' were available for players that were previously 'out of the reach of Aston Villa'.

None of the players to have joined so far were 'out of Aston Villa's reach' and the only real way to appease me and possibly the majority of supporters would be to sign a Saviola type player.

The substantial funds were rumoured to be in the region of ?20,000,000 but this was quickly brought down to ?15,000,000 before a statement was released by the club saying 'no figure was mentioned'.

One thing is for definite and that's the money spent so far (?2,750,000) can not be considered as 'substantial funds'.

I for one believed the club this time and was under the impression that we would see around ?15,000,000 spent on five or six players but with everything that has gone on I'm now not expecting it to happen - but I'm still hoping.

Back to his price of 14/1. If things do not look promising very early on for Villa next season and if it turns out that David O'Leary is just the next puppet in a long line of puppets to have filled me with false hope I'll be having a little bet on him and honestly, I won't be disappointed if I get a result.

Have an opinion on this? Let us know.
