Did you hear the one about the Villa Park General, the pig in mud and the porn magnate?

Thursday, 27 September 07, 03:50 AM · Comments (21)

I've stayed away from this because it was local and didn't really need someone else talking about it but now it's national, it's in The Sun today and according to the paper, Gold is declaring war. It finally deserves a mention.

The porn magnate is none other than David Gold and he's demanded an apology, according to the newspaper, from Charles Krulak, known in the title of this post as the General for liking him to a 'pig in mud'.

Should David Gold expect an apology? I think yes, only because it was stupid to liken him to the pig and even though it was an 'analogy' it's just stupid to have said it and not necessary. Funny and fitting most will say, but really not necessary.

Krulak has said “The pig is the situation not the person and wasn’t aimed at David Gold.”. The irony is, by making the statement in the first place, on a forum of all places, Krulak has 'become the pig' because he has become the situation.

Gold is unhappy “I am very aggrieved. To use my name in an analogy about pigs and mud is insulting.”

I suspect a private apology has been made but it will also fire up the supporters ahead of the two matches this season. Good idea or bad, we'll only know after the event, but I suspect Krulak has learnt his lesson.

I haven't got a clue what this story is all about...
The General called David Gold a pig in the mud?

Damian

Oink. Funny, General. Not clever, but funny. Oink.

At least he didn't call him a twat. People need to shrug that shit off. Woodinho has a very valid point. My apologies for the obscenities, Mr Gold. I'd never call you a pig....

Sorry Damian you have this one all wrong. Usually I agree with a lot of what you say (miss you over at Vital Villa by the way) but here you missed the mark.

Fans have been on the General thread for a while now complaining about how they got shafted on tickets the last time there was a Derby match and that although Villa did the right thing the sty dwellers hiked the price of the tickets when the game was at thier venue.

Mr Gold being the person he is tries to pat him self on the back for promoting lower ticket prices. The villa fans reacted to that in the General's fourm and he told them he didn't want to get into it as it would be lowering him self to the level of Mr Gold.

If the statement wasn't true then Mr Gold should have just let it die. A few Villa fans picked up on it but that was about it. Now amost 2 weeks after the post he gets upset about it? This reaction is just another attempt to get in the papers.

The funny thing is why not address the real issue? Why did they stick the Villa fans for 55 pound, errrr 45 pound ticket prices? Let him answer that question first before we hear anything from the General.

Damian
Damian Wrote: | 18.17BST | Sep 27, 2007

the thing is Etouffee while he is a hypocrite for charging high prices and calling for lower ones it is the first law of economic or in this case business; supply and demand

so what if he wants to make more money for that game. he's also got more charges that he has to cover ... yes he is a hypocrite but mr krulak shouldn't have made those comments unless he wanted this reaction. it was pretty clear this was going to be the reaction and by making those comments he has got down in the mud

Etouffee Wrote: | 18.53BST | Sep 27, 2007

I disagree :)

Why dosen't he answer the question first? I don't buy that he thinks everyone can charge 20% less then they are but he cant explain or wont why the price was so high for that one match even though Villa did not do the same to them in turn.

You can focus on the Generals comment all you want and maybe it was made to get a little reaction but I don't find it to be too off the mark. If it was way off the mark I think the General would admit it.

I do remember though you and the General and some of the Vital fans had words on the Generals thread a while back about fan site support by the club. I would hope that's not part of this though?

Damian
Damian Wrote: | 19.09BST | Sep 27, 2007

you have every right to disagree but what are you disagreeing with?

and what is the question that has to be answered?

mr krulak made some comments that likened mr gold to a pig. mr gold is not happy; ho haa

should mr krulak apologise for making the comments? he probably has privately, i dont know. but maybe he should have just used a different analogy considering what aston villa fans call their stadium and what we think of their support

Well the question is at the bottom of my first post, last paragraph and then I expanded on that at the top of my second post. Why were the ticket prices jacked up for the last match between the two sides. That is what brought on the comment in the first place.

Should the General apologise? Hell no!

everyone is entitled to an opinion and mine is he shouldn't have said anything. i'll take it one step further and say he should never have been on the forums in the first place as it was only going to lead to something like this which has made him look amateurish (and i'm not the only one that thinks this)

it wasn't needed and while its all 'nice' for the 100 or so users that get to 'chat' with him or whoever it is that writes the comments on his behalf its actually quite embarrassing also

but this is just my opinion. you also have your quite clear opinion that he shouldn't apologise but i also suspect we'll be seeing less of him on the forums and/or whoever it is that actually writes these comments will probably be changed to someone else or go through someone .. i.e. your not getting real feeling. just static answers to questions that we all know the answer to

but to explain why i think its a complete sham and waste of time and apologies for using a phrase mr krulak has used so often; actions speak louder than words

Well although you might not be alone I would say your one of the few Villa fans that think so. To me it sounds like sour grapes on your part to be honest.

It is the General himself who posts the comments and he has helped me out with a situation I had with the Offical Villa Website and Villa World. Took a bit but his direction helped out the situation.

Your right though it is just my and your opinion here. So for what its worth at least we talked about both sides :)

I really think though you need to let some of that anger go and read though the Generals thread (on which ever site you choose) and go back to when the comment was made and look to see what prompted it.

Damian

i'm aware of what prompted it but my opinion is it doesn't matter what prompted it, liking anyone to a pig in mud especially when you factor in what some of the natives refer to their stadium as, was just wrong.

look, if this hadn't made national press (pretty much every newspaper now) this wouldn't have gotten a mention on here because it was embarrassing, but it has and because it has it's because its generally how the majority of people feel outside of aston villa and not just 100 or so internet warriors that talk to him or whoever types for him on a forum

as for the him typing it, if i thought for a moment it was remotely true then i wouldn't have suggested otherwise. please

Damian I can't quite understand your stance on this one mate? and your comment about '100 or so internet warriors' is really a silly thing to say. I tend to agree with most things you have to say but on this occasion your just plain wrong.

steve

we're all entitled to our opinion but for the few negative comments i've had here, i've as many positive ones by email ..

i love the new owner, the new board and i think the feel good factor that mr krulak brings to the table is excellent ...

i just think him on the forums is a bad idea much as i think the supporter consultation group is a bad idea ...

it's just too suspect ...

"liking anyone to a pig in mud especially when you factor in what some of the natives refer to their stadium as, was just wrong" Sorry Damian, but I just can not recall the General (your opinion on who it is on the generals thread is a different matter) doing that, It is a statement that has been picked up and blown out of all proportion by the scum and the scum supporting media, just wish that so called journalists would get their facts right for a change, know what I mean chap?

just in case i mis read it ... this is what was said on villa talk by the user c-krulak who everyone believes to be charles krulak:
Not sure what Mr. Gold is after other than publicity. When you get down in the mud and wrestle with a pig, the pig loves it...and you get muddy. I think I will just let him continue to talk.
its funny and i understand exactly what the general is saying however he could have just said: no comment or it's not our job to comment on what other clubs do

he didn't have to bring the word pig into it or suggest that if he did comment, specifically about prices, that he would be liking himself to a pig and Gold

but this whole thing has escalated and it's not just blues media now; almost every national paper in the land has run the story now

and he has also apologised to gold privately from what i understand so ... it's over

the general is right gold and all of the people who support them are pigs , why bother defending the general when he is totally right .
