Martin O'Neill has today said he's not heard from Steve Bruce about any potential loan deal involving Liam Ridgewell. That's great news but also worrying news as Blues boss Bruce has mentioned 'Ridgewell' and 'loan' in the same sentence recently.
While I agree with the manager that players who are not playing regularly should go out on loan, especially now as we don't have any games for over three weeks after Reading, surely a line has to be drawn under Birmingham City as a no go team.
If he did go to Blues it will not be forgotten by them or us and while I rate Ridgewell and think he has bags of potential there will always be that stigma associated with him if he did go.
It's worth remembering there are 23 other teams in the Championship, most of which I'd imagine would be happy to take a future England captain on loan for a month or so.
Have you ever accidentally stood in something while strolling along and tried for ages to get it off your shoe? I have and I didn't like it. I wouldn't like it if Ridgewell went. Olof Mellberg never would and it's just one of the things I admire about him.
Thinking about it now, I don't think those particular shoes lasted much longer before I got a new pair. Ridgewell playing for Blues may one day be a distant memory but it will be forgotten.
I just don't think it's a good idea for the player, especially as there are better clubs in the Championship for him to go and spend a bit of time at.

I think you'd have to question a player's commitment if they wanted to go on loan to the bluenoses. The only valid excuse is that they are going to go there to play badly.
I wont welcome him back if he goes to scum on loan!!
There's no way a Villa player can contribute to the 'potential' promotion of the Small Heath.....
We Brummies will play in the Premier League next season, and Liam Ridgewell can stay in Aston... We don`t need him! Keep right on!
no way would Ridgewell be made welcome at st andrews its best he stays at the village of aston... he would never fill upsons boots anyway
come on lads' you sound like your realy scared of the blues...
i guess it may come back to haunt you!!!!!!
....but you're still a championship side.
It's true, no villa player could contribute to small heath's potential, you're beyond being saved.
Can someone please tell me why no ones ridiculing the idiot who suggests hes a future england captain?
Didn't he have a really bad time last season scoring own goals, giving away penalties and getting sent off? We could really use a player like that.
He wouldn't be that stupid anyway, nothing to worry about.
PS. Obviously he wouldn't fill Upson's boots as he doesn't take it up the...
We all know what upson would like his boots filled up with!!

... ha ha ha, you're not serious, good god!
Let him stay in Aston.
"There are 23 other teams in the Championship, most of which would be happy to take a future England captain on loan" - Oh come on! Even the die hard Villa fans would disagree with that the boy has potential but not enough to ever get himself into the national squad.
"I just don't think it is a good idea for the player, especially as there are better teams" - you get better each time. It's worth noting that the team who are going for him have the best squad in the Championship.
Whoever wrote this article should be shot and with any luck will die a horrible death!!
Mentioning Ridgewell is a cheap shot by Bruce to try and deflect some of the stick hes getting on to Villa.Do us all a favour and get your nose fixed
I'm not really sure what the fuss is about - I think that this was a genuine enquiry.
The important issue is that the player pulls his weight for the shirt he puts on.
There have been a number of players who have played for both Villa and Blues, both with passion and skill.
Mike Hill, South African Bluenose (since my schooldays).
