A lot has been said the last few days about how much Doug Ellis gets paid. If you didn't already know from May 2004 to May 2005 Aston Villa plc (in essence Doug) paid him ?296,555.00 before tax.
For the job he does and the amount of abuse the man gets I wouldn't do the job for four times that amount and many seem to forget that the club is virtually debt free and has assets, according to the last filed accounts, of over ?40,000,000.00.
Compare his salary to David O'Leary, which is believed to be a million a year or players like Juan Pablo Angel, Patrik Berger, Eric Djemba Djemba or Stuart Taylor (we could name most Aston Villa players this season) and it puts things into perspective. What exactly have any of them done to deserve their salary this year?
How many of you work for a company and earn more than the owner or major shareholder? There is nothing wrong with Doug paying himself what he is, in fact I think he should be paid more but it's not Directors salaries that should be called into question but those of the players.
If you think Doug is paid to much how about someone like Wayne Rooney who earns more than Doug Ellis does in a year in three short weeks. Bigger and more important things need to be sorted out in the game before we start worrying about ?296,555.00.
