After being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Villareal (not the real Villa), Everton were hoping to make amends in the UEFA Euro Milk Cup Vase Shield Trophy this season, but look to have fallen at the first hurdle.
A 5-1 away defeat has left Moyse's men almost without a hope and look unlikely to overturn a four goal deficit at Goodison Park in two weeks time.
Moyes today admitted it was the lowest point of his managerial career, "This is maybe my lowest ebb as a manager and as bad a night as I have had. But it is my responsibility to raise morale as that was my team out there. There will be no public condemnation."
Moyes also strangely admitted that he couldn't explain what went wrong, "I can't give you an explanation. It looked as if we ran out of legs a little bit in the second half but I did not expect that scoreline at half-time. I thought we'd played well enough to be in front at half-time, never mind drawing. We were hopeful of a result."
Everton's return leg is on the 29th of September. We wish them the best of luck.
