Fantastic! Everton 2 Aston Villa 3

Sunday, 07 December 08, 11:57 AM · Comments (86)

I'm sitting with an Everton fan and he reckons a draw would have been a fair result and you know what, he's not wrong, but life isn't fair and we won with two lovely goals and a very lucky one.

Ashley Young is my man of the match for scoring the winner with seconds to go, seconds after Everton had equalised and tonight, even though it's  Sunday, I'm going to get steaming drunk.

Sidwell scored after seconds and Young got the second after an Everton player played him in and he got the winner, as described above with seconds to go.

Lescott got both goals for Everton and he had a really good game as did the 19 foot Everton midfielder Fellaini but we won and well, I'm opening beer. Media view tomorrow, which should be a good one.

For the record, the Everton fan I watched the game with was very humble in defeat, although he did jump around when they got their second equaliser, but he has also said we're better than Arsenal this season and he thinks we can steal 4th place.

Maybe I'm too close to the team to believe it, but hell, after today, I might start to believe anything!

Also and it's worth writing this as I put so much emphasis on what could happen if we lost, but we're five points clear of Pompey now and six from Everton.

Hull are close, but that's not going to last and they know it. Wonderful day! Like I said, I'm going for beer.

it feels so good to beat nasty everton... listen to their fans screaming everytime the ball went near someone's arm. they knock the ball in the air and pull and push and flop about everywhere--- and we sink to their level of football,,,, do we not have the bottle to take time and pass it.

we did do one or two things well though..... and a win against them shouldnt be worth more than one against fulham-- but it is.

I want to report a crime. There was a robbery in Merseyside tonight, but it wasn't by any scousers in a red shirt. There are men in claret and blue seen running away with 3 points. What a result! A draw was the fairest result because Everton played well. But I'm not thinking about fairness today; I'm thinking about the 3 points. I was so gutted when Lescott scored that second goal. Then I nearly gave my wife a heart attack when I screamed for Young's game winner---she was rather peeved at me.

At one point, all i could see was an Everton win. But then we did deserve some good luck for once (Jagielka is a Villa fan you know). Couldn't belive the end of the game, the emotional rollercoaster.
I hate the tactics that Everton use, very much about acting innocent and getting the decisions. The crowd are a bunch of w@nkers aswell, appealling for every decision. Glad we beat them. Well done to Ash. Shown his match winning class after a fairly quiet November.

Why do we play him on the wing for its clear to me he's better in gabby position as a striker =D

I was slating him last match but he needed a kick up the ass, top class finishing but we didn't play great i have to say

We were lucky but we needed a little luck to kick start off our next good run

3-2 i couldn't believe it when i flicked back to 401 =D

From completely gutted, screaming at the TV and the team as Villa headed toward another classic passive late-game collapse to give away points, to pure unadulterated joy screaming at the TV as Young did the impossible and got the points back. Thank god. Brilliant move and finish as well. Loved the Ginger Ninja's goal, really hated all the desperate stupid defending at the end. I thought we'd got past that, but not yet, apparently.

But what a finish.

I'm not exactly pleased about our performance. We basically spent the whole game collecting the ball of rather uninventive Everton attacks, and then kicked it straight back to them. There was no passing between Petrov, Barry and Sidwell, everyone just tried to hoof it up to Gabby in the hope he'd run on to it. Everton stifled those attacks, they knew it was gonna happen, but fortunately they're attacking wasn't much better than ours.

Still, Young was quality when he got the ball today. The performance was rubbish, but as my mate pointed out we took our chances and thats what made us win in the end.

MON sais about learning to win when you are not playing your best or under pressure. That was certainly a case of that. How many times have we played and got nothing. If we beat the Arse to 4th, we shall look at this result as to what has possibly done it.

absolutely cracking result!

If im being honest and objective, Everton deserved all 3 points today. But football can be cruel, as we found out last wkend against fulham. if we are to get into the top 4, we need to win games when we're not at our best, as we did today. What I liked about today was the ruthlessness we showed with our chances. Ashleys sharpness abd finishing for both goals was immense, and I cant say much for Sidwells goal other than it was an absolute cracker!

There were a few problems with today, i.e. us inviting pressure, and again not using any subs when our starting XI are clearly tired, but now is not the time nor moaning!

Again, Great result and a positive result against Bolton sets us up nicely for the Arsenal game!!

The scouser stuff is just a bit of banter - we're a bit pissed off with those nasty big scouse boys sniffing round our Captain trying to get him to join their gang

You're right about the crowds - that's what they do to try and get decisions for the team - we should be better at that at Villa Park

We got lucky today although finishing was great - if we want to get anywhere near CL we need to retain the ball far better. We also got hussled out of it loads today and that doesn't happen very often, I nearly found myself wishing for Reo Coker to come on and start winning us some ball.

Anyway I like Everton, even if part of that is a shared loathing of Liverpool FC. That Villa Everton is the most played game in top flight history shows what a great shared history we have

Nail on the head, IMO.

Awful performance overall, IMO, but we had the class at the end of the day.
We were bloody lucky, as they pissed that game and I actually felt sorry for them for a second.
Decent defending, but the ball always went nowhere, everytime. That's always dangerous, but at the end of the day, it's another win that I fully expected, apart from the fact that they've only won once at home this season, which is why I thought we'd probably lose this one 8O

Oh and as for Everton fna, bloody hell, your mob called handball for everything mate.
Yes, we were lucky to win, but I thought it was a good old fashioned English game of footy (Moyes said the same), even when we were looking like you were going to beat us.

All I will say is that MoN is a very lucky man, and that he's put himself in a position where he's reliant on luck, rather than being in control of his own destiny. Had we got 13 points from the previous 18, rather than 5, then we could say that today's performance was a bit of a blip, and we could be delighted that MoN has instilled in the team the ability to win games we have no right to. Heck, we'd probably even be dreaming of challenging for the title.

But it's just the 5 points we got, not 13, and a very lucky win against Everton isn't going to convince me that, despite losses to Newcastle and Middlesboro, and a failiure to beat Fulham, and, dare I say, Man Utd, we're on the right track. Taken in isolation, each of these performances you can explain away. But together, they are damning evidence that MoN has failed to put together the squad he should have.

It may be just the one player we lack (a quality striker), but our need for one was obvious, even to those who assumed that Harewood was part of MoN's plans. To go into a Premiership campaign with just two strikers is utterly ridiculous. That we also have the European fixtures (an additional ten games), makes MoN's decision even more ridiculous.

I'm delighted we got the win, but I'm not going to be fooled into believing that things aren't as they are. Even if we manage to win the rest of our December fixtures, we're looking at having dropped at least a dozen points this season because of MoN's two-striker policy. Where would we be now with twelve more points? I'll tell you where; exactly where we should be. We are not overachieving this season. We are underachieving. To deny this is tacit admission of an inferiority complex. Perhaps this is understandable given the ineptitude of the seven or eight seasons before MoN arrived. But Ellis is no longer our chairman, and for all my criticism of him, MoN is not an imbecile of the order of a Gregory or O'Leary.

To all of the moaners i think you are over reactng a bit. Take a look at the ladder. Even Man U is only a few points ahead of us and last year they were the best team in the world. I think people need to realise that this year is the tightest ever for the Premiere League. There will be upsets every week and we all need to understand that we have to fight for every point. Man U had to wait til the 91st min to beat Sunderland at home. Take the points and move on. There will be more signngs in Jan and over the Summer who knows? If we finish 4th we will attract the top players and then we will be a force for the next 5 to 10 years. Get behind the Villa and give them all of your support. Wear your Villa shirts with pride today because that game was fantasic. Did you see the players and MON after the game they were absolutely going off. Holy balls.. what else can you say?? I almost dropped a load in my pants! That was such an exciting finish.

Unfortunately, I had the feeling that we were playing a man down the entire match.. anyone else know what I mean? I was uneasy the whole time.

All I will say is that MoN is a very lucky man,

Are you having a laugh Simeon? I can't believe how scything you are about our leader. Suggesting he is lucky is quite unbelievable. Was he just as spawny at making Wycombe, Leicester and Celtic the best they could be?

SAF was given 5yrs to produce a side at Man.Ure, up until then, he had achieved nothing with them. MON has consistently improved the squad having been out of football a while, which is a remarkable achievement. He doesn't need someone like you telling him that he has made mistakes. He is the first to put his hands up and acknowledge he has got something wrong.

The only clubs above us, are the most consistently successful teams on the planet, and we're not far behind. We have made some poor signings which haven't worked out. Whoopy doo! No other team have done that have they? The crap signings will go, and the good will sign new contracts.

The game wasn't a classic, but we showed a bit of grit and exceptional class in places. To have players of ASH's class, shows that we are capable of winning games even when we are playing poorly. In the same way GERRARD and RONALDO bail out their teams week after week.

Well as all have said, great result. A win is a win i guess. I thought Ash came into the game with a different attitude and with loads of energy. I really felt he lifted for this one. He was constantly pressuring them in defence and in the end thats what got us over the line, with his two goals coming as a result. Seeing his game on thursday, i thought he was almost taking a step backward as he was poor in all areas.

Today my hat comes off for Ashley Young as he responded like a champ and won us the game yesterday.

One glaringly obvious problem we have at the moment is our midfield. They are being overrun in there and we cant seem to string two or three passes together, just predictable long ball shit. Boring to watch and poor tactics all round. It really needs addressing.......

wow, great finish to the game hard to remember a Villa game that had such an exciting finish to it where villa came out on top instead of the other team equalising or winning.

However in the first half apart from the goal we were completely out played but really came back strong into the game.

To those who are again moaning about MON because we played so badly. Yes we did play badly and we do need signins fair enough but as usual its a case of give it time Rome wasnt built in a day, and although this argument can very well be said to be to old now were into MON third season in charge of the club thats fair enough during this time he should have been able to built the sort of team that he wants. Well i think he has done a fair job he has created the sort of team that he wants but its not finished just yet he needs more strikers but if its obvious to us it will be even more obvious to the manager.

Considering where we were several years ago where we are now, the team, the manager, the owner, the type of football we play, the young prospects we have, and the fact that we can have thrilling games of football more often than not that grab the headlines rather than the old title villa used to have as "Boring middle team that draws all the time". Well i know where id rather be and though i want success now like we all do were building a squad slowly and thoughtfully not bankrupting the club at the same time.

So just enjoy the win we got yesterday it was god damn amazing!!!!

Fellaini

Alright Villa fans, Everton fan in peace here.

First of all I have to say what a fantastic game! It was a classic for both teams, it was like a roller coaster. I was there yesterday and the atmosphere at the end was brilliant.

The thing with Everton is we have have very good team but we haven't got to many players who can create chances. Osman puts some balls in now and then but we rely on Arteta and Pienaar to much. We desperatey some more creative players. You look at Villa and they have people who can create chances, Young, Barry etc.

I think we were the better team yesterday but we done it to the Hammers a couple of weeks ago and football is cruel so we just have to look forward to Man City now. For Everton there is a lot of postives we can take out of the game, we actually started to play some football again and look like we were going to win.

Brad Friedel was great for use yesterday, he pulled off some crucial saves. Fellaini hit the bar, cleared off the line and saved by Friedel. I always said Villa would beat us this season but I didn't expect that.

I want Villa to get 4th now, I would hate it if Arsenal got it. Hopefully Villa will replace Arsenal as a consistent top 4 team. For those who say Everton are going to finish mid table, we won't. We have shown massive signs of improvement in the last two games.

Also to the fans who are saying we moan at everything, that is what an atmosphere should be. Goodison Park is known for generating a good atmosphere. It was horrible when Ashley Young got that winner though, everyone around me was just going 'no not again' lol.

Overall a really good game though and come on Villa beat Arsenal to 4th!!!

Unbelievable! After Everton's ineveitable second equaliser, I was grudgingly accepting the fact that Everton deserved a draw. But when Young scored the winner all I was shouting was YES! IN YOUR FACE MOYES!

All of Villa's goals were brilliant finnishes, fantastic strikes.

It was a really important win. An amazing game, a breathtaking start and a mind blowing finnish.

Ashley, I salute you!

I actually loved the game and am still happy, thanks. Check my email account or whatever you need to do to prove they are an imposter,.

Fellaini,

You've gotta be chuffed with the real FELLAINI. Won everything in the air (no surprise there with a 6ft block of tumbleweed pubes on his head). Great positional play and comfortable on the ball. We'll swap you for OSBOURNE?

What a game of football, aside from everything else. I was begginning to think we wouldn't score again. Also, it gave me the opportunity to witness a grown man attempt a belly slide across his own living room carpet. ouch.

Up the Villa - just hope we can do Bolton.

I wish we were playing away today, that would mean the team bus had a chance of crashing and kill the fucking lot of them. I’m sick to fucking death of these highly paid ponces constantly letting us down. Basic fucking errors, every fucking game. What's so fucking hard about the basics of defending that these cunts can’t understand? Fuck the lot of them, they can burn in hell for all I care now! ON EFC BLOG
