Football in the Midlands and the Coca Cola Championship

Tuesday, 27 February 07, 05:29 PM · Comments (4)

Every Aston Villa fan new at the start of the season that there was no chance of us winning the league and you wouldn't have found many that would have said we even had a chance at a trophy.

It's actually quite depressing if you think too much about it, but we can now have a little hope, because we have Mr Lerner and Martin O'Neill.

But Aston Villa aside for one moment, things are changing for football in the Midlands and if everything was to work out how I'd like it, next season we'll see three clubs from the Midlands; Derby, Wolves and Stoke all getting promoted while West Ham, Watford and Charlton, three London teams, would all get relegated.

The Midlands would then have more clubs in the Premiership than London and we might then start to see a little more coverage on Match of the Day.

It's also, probably, a lot more exciting to support one of those three Midlands based teams I've mentioned above when you consider there is only four points separating the team at the top of the league to the team in eight place and each of those teams, plus two other teams from the Midlands, should fancy their chances of automatic promotion or the play-offs.

It can all still happen for them whereas in the Premiership we know it will be Chelsea or United. Hell, we knew it would be Chelsea or United this season half way through last season.

The Premiership isn't the most exciting league in Europe, it's not even the most exciting league in England any more and that just goes to demonstrate what a bad way our national game is in. It needs to be fixed.

Rant over and now back to my sixth love. I'll be watching Aston Villa at Fulham this weekend but if I'm totally honest as soon as the match is over I'll be wanting to find out the results in the Coca Cola Championship with a little more eagerness than normal.

i think and if i am right aston villa can never win the premier league with this team. They need more quality players. They need to buy more players.

They need to invest better in the transfer market. That's the only way how aston villa can ever come to win a league

I think you'll find it's the same for every team except Man Utd. Even Chelsea's isn't good enough or they'd look like they'd got a chance of beating Utd to the title.

Agreed about the Championship; a lot of my Championship-team-supporting mates are raving about it.

The Prem Has become Sh*t because only Manky u, Chelski, Liverpot and Arsnik have a chance of winning it. the national side aswell, because only players from these teams have a chance to get into the england team. its utter crap. If u look at other leagues, smaller teams are threatning to win their leagues, e.g. Sevilla in spain, Palermo in italy, lens in france. look at our league, top four of our teams in the top four of our league wat a surprise! i guesed that one from the start. UP THE VILLA!!!

As a QPR fan I can confirm the championship is very, perhaps too exciting. I just hope we can stay there.
