Curtis Davies, Ashley Young, Gabby Agbonlahor and Gareth Barry are all in the England squad to face Germany next week.
I don't remember the last time we had four in the squad but no doubt someone will remind me below but it's testament to the good work Martin O'Neill is doing at the club.
Martin O'Neill actually thinks this match is a waste of time and to be frank, it is, but getting four players in the squad is a very positive sign and should only help them as players, hopefully.
The full squad is: Carson, Hart, James, Bridge, Davies, Johnson, Terry, Lescott, Mancienne, Richards, Upson, Barry, Carrick, Downing, Lampard, Gerrard, Wright-Phillips, A Young, Agbonlahor, Bent, Crouch, Defoe, Walcott.

the one time we had five earlier this year...carson.young.gabby.barry.davies
chelsea only have 3, and United, Liverpool and Arsenal 1 each. Up the Villa
You just know that SAF has told Ferdinand and Rooney to rest up so they are fresh for us Fcuking Stroker!
i think its good that they have made the england squad but not that they could be playing. its gonna tire them out.
MON says he hopes that Gabby doesnt get picked and if he does then he should only play one half or even 10 minutes. lol
RSamVillaFan mentions Mon's concern of burnout for Gabby. This begs the question, Why on earth didn't he sign at least one striker in the summer?? With only two strikers in the first team squad (MoN has recognised that Harewood isn't up to it, and he seems to think Delfouneso isn't ready), it was guaranteed that Gabby and Carew would feel the effects. I think there's every chance we'll be round and about the top 4 come the end of the season. If we don't finish in the top 4, MoN will have to admit that it was down to him stupidly failing to have at least three strikers in the squad.
Great result today, and pretty unexpected after the previous week of debacles, although 3 points won today doesn't make up for six points p***ed away, even if Arsenal was a six pointer.
I like MoN, and I hope he's learning, or better, learned, from his mistakes, as he's done a very good job on a number of levels. But in addition to every game, at least in the league, being key, so is the January transfer window. We must get a quality striker (and please God not Heskey or Owen, who, though so different, manage to be equally rubbish), or finishing top 4 will be , if not impossible, then a major miracle - and not one of MoN's making for all the Martin Messianics.
Just to underline that it was a great, and equally important, result today.
UTV!
Fingers and toes crossed that no one gets hurt or overused this Wed.
Youre wrong to not want them to play. The experience will make better players out of them. It raises their expectations and that will be to the good of Villa in the long term. Its no big deal to recover from a match on Wednesday and play again on Saturday. Injuries in frendlies are pretty rare these days.
Damien
I can't believe that Milner wasn't chosen
Picking Hart and Carson ahead of Green and Kirkland is a joke. Mancienne hasn't even played a league game for Chelsea.
Anyway who cares - we beat the Arse 2-0
shortly i think it will be six in the squad with sidwell and milner due to be included
Totally pointless exercise.
If any of them get injured we should be able to bang in an insurance claim.
Too drunk yesterday to comment but lads, come on, what a win!!! I love being a villa fan
Also wanted to add, Damian i agree Milner lacks a final ball a lot of time. BUT... He gives us so much defensively as well as being an outlet up front, and when his crossing comes good he will be such an asset. Credit to him, just before we won the penalty he crossed a fantastic ball into the Arsenal box and one of the villa lads should have buried it!! Point is cross was good and potential is definately there
Great news for the four lads. It would be nice for Milner to get included. Sidwell isn't ready yet but get a few more good games under his belt and he'll be there.
Carson & James is a joke - I'd look at Foster & Hart (not good with crosses though)
I think Davies will get a game. Did you see J Terry doing his oh got to go off with 5 min left so I can see if I'm bothered to play for England. I bet you he'll pull out last min. Joke of a player that he is.
What a great result it was - Why Villa don't turn up week after week I don't know. I think we must believe that are kinx with Scumchester could come to an end. They are beatable for sure.
I think Barry must realise that things have improved a lot and I wouldn't be surprised if he signs a new contract. Liverpool (Lucky) are pushing for the title and I really couldn't see Rafa upsetting the balance of a team that is going to be there or there abouts come May; by going for Barry.
Also Arsenal wouldn't suit him unless he can speak French, tribal dialects from Africa, Spanish ... As he wouldn't be able to use his mother language.
Reply to Chater1703:
that was the preliminary squad, davies and gabby both got dropped before the actual squad was announced
Reply to mickey86:
gabby wasn't dropped...he was in the the squad...he just got injured so it was 4 then
Does anyone else think its strange that Bridge & Johnson are the only recognised out and out full backs in the squad? I know that Richards and Lescott can and do play there, but essentially Capello has chosen six CBs...
Now I've not as many games this year as I would have liked, but I've been impressed by the no frills approach of Luke Young, and his crossing and passing are better than expected (doesn't try anything fancy but gets forward when needed and seems to be quite effective when he does)... dare I say it is almost Nevillesque (Gary not Lurch).
I think Young may have a genuine chance of being called up if he can contribute a bit more going forward... I know that Capello loves Brown, but Johnson is dodgey in defence and I don't trust him at international level. Anyway, potentially one more to add to the list; would be interested to hear what your thoughts are on that.
I also agree that the inclusion of Carson is a joke; he gets beaten at his near post far too easily and still looks like a lost schoolboy at times... Kirkland is a much better shot stopper and more commanding, and hasn't had any major injury concerns for at least two weeks now. Green only had his first clean sheet this weekend, so I can maybe understand why he got left out, and Foster hasn't been playing.
On a side note, is anyone else a little concerned that we haven't seen much from 'the wall' this year? Friedel seems to have spilled the ball more often than I expected, and it seems that he picks out opposition players quite often when he parries it... his kicking has also been a bit suspect, and he has definitely lost a bit of agility since his Blacburn games. Don't get me wrong, I think he was a good signing, and his experience is invaluable, but after Guzan's performance in Prague, how long will it be before Brad II takes over?
No chance of Nige ever playing for the senior team and am really suprised that someone with such a bad touch etc played so many games for the U21s. Agree with comments about Luke. He plays very well on the right and not bad on the left and also is comfortable on the ball. Think MON will use Cuellar on the right from now on as Shorey is the other (than Reo-Coker)weakest link.
can't we send harewood instead of gabby?
