From the horses mouth: Villa have shown interest in Badr El-Kaddouri

Monday, 28 July 08, 03:05 PM · Comments (46)

I'm not referring to him as a horse, he doesn't even look like one, but Badr El-Kaddouri has told Sky Sports that we're interested in him, as are Newcastle.

Now, I'm not knocking Newcastle, but you've got to fancy that he'd rather come to us over them, we do after all have some European football to look forward to!

Talking to Sky Sports he basically confirmed that we had shown interest in the past but we're showing more now. If you've ever seen him play, it would be nice if you could give us a write up below, but if you haven't and you're in the mood to believe anything, read on.

He started his career playing with fruit on the streets of Rabat and was quickly noticed as a young talent. He went on to play football for Monte Del before saying yes to a professional contract.

He's played for his country and is currently playing for Dynamo Kiev at left back and the press will know fairly soon if it's Newcastle or Aston Villa.

With the horror injury to Bouma at the weekend, we are actually in quite desperate need for a full back. Actually, we're in quite desperate need for a few of them, but I've given up joking about that for now as the talk doing the talk is that the signings are coming.

I'd put money on him picking us over them for footballing reasons, but Newcastle if it's just about the money.

Another rumour doing the rounds again this afternoon is that we've tabled a bid for Real Madrid central midfielder Ruben de la Red.

Now, this is probably just a rumour and according to the same rumour Arsenal are also interested, so don't start counting any chickens or eggs for that matter. But you never know.

I off out for a beer and with a bit of luck another one. Cheers.

Who???

Another made up link, what a surprise! Does any one rate kaboul from spurs? I think these last 3 weeks before kick off are gonna lead to panic buying? In other words buying shite players like above! We are gonna buy more rubbish mark my words!

P.s who is this player

lennon, huddlestone, milner, gudjohnson, downing swap for barry, bullard...these players are all realistic signing? Stupid fools work at villa???? I really believe that.
Has doug really gone because he still attends every match

1st time on here just registered... my view IF we do sign either of the above maybe people will realise we do scout outside england and leave off MON a bit!!! we have been linked with severel lb's (naylor, mattock, shorey etc) im sure at least 1 of these will arrive baker/o'halleron as back up till bouma's back??? im also SURE the rb situation is being sorted behind the scenes our targets have not gone anywhere!!! (miguel, finnan, hoyte) and finally we might not like it but kaboul hasnt gone anywhere yet.... lets not panic just yet trust MON or as i call him GOD!!!

He played for Monte Del or worked as a fruit picker for Del Monte??

Sounds like a wind up to me!!

Does anyone know how the draw works for the UEFA? Are certain teams seeded for this next qualifying round or are all the teams in with a chance of drawing anyone??

Goldie 7, if I gave you money to go out and buy things from people who don't want to sell. What would you do, keep offering more money until they do sell? I can not believe that we haven't been trying to get players in. Yeah, if we don't get the real deal long term players in we'll end up getting make-weights to tide us over until we can attract the sort of players we need. Whoever we get will be Villa players, and if they give 100% we should support them. (Unless they're total sh*te!)

This transfer window is doing my head in (as well as yours presumably). If everything has gone t*ts up for MON this summer it can all be traced back to Liverpoor upsetting our captain, and MON's plans. The real villain (as in b*stard) is Rafa Bent ez. I hope we are looking at legal action, there must be some case to be answered.

This moroccan left back sounds like hes got experience and apart from shorey are there actually any other decent lefT backs available?id settle for any left back right now and im sure that mon will bring him in and use barry as back up(if he stays) and he'll sign one right back with gardner as back up!still its better than nothing i suppose!

Thom Wrote: | 03.00BST | Jul 29, 2008

personally i would love it if we signed this guy. He has experience in the champions league and is the sort of player we would naturally start off with, by this i mean we aren't exactly going to start bidding for left backs like abidal and clichy just because we are in europe but this guy is a good, realistic target that i think would put all our minds at rest, and if we have shorey as another option we could really shuffle things around next year, as for de la red, i saw him last year for getafe and he looks great, i would love to see him at the villa. I think spurs look like they are gonna sign arshavin now (which is a ******* disgrace, the guy is too good for a team no better than us apart from the fact they are in london) so that should take their attention away from him i think. As for arsenal, i think with nasri being there he may fancy first team football with us. Right back this week as well though please mon. does anyone else wish we could just sign fernando nelson again??

De la Red is a damn fine quality CM if you read up on him... omgbbqsauceplzkthx. We'd be lucky to have landed him if that happens. As for the Morrocan lad, he has to at least be decent if we have maintained our interest in him for the presumed amount of time.

Goldie 7's posting has got to be the stupidest posting I've read for a long time. He writes off the link as made up, Says he doesn't know the player, then dismisses him as crap! He then goes through another series of pure rumours, before dismissing the people who work at Villa as fools! He hasn't got a clue what he's on about and needs to buy a brain.

Kaddouri is a quality attacking left back and proved it against Man Utd in the CL, De la Red could be a real possibility and Kaboul is a decent defender, so whats the problem with people ?

Lucky4, I doubt very much Barry will be anyones back up if he stays, no matter how we feel about him, he is one of the best, if not the best footballer at Aston Villa. If he goes we will miss him, if he stays and commits his future it will be like a new lease of life.

If you meant that if Barry stays he will play him in CM and then backup for LB just incase, then im sorry I misunderstood you.

on the official site we are linked to 129 players lol but only 3 signings (if you exclude davies and count Guzan).
De La red is the type of player we need, i think mon went to a see a couple of these 'quality' signings last year Munich v getafe. shorey im not so sure about he played in a defence that got relegated for gods sake we need quality as well as quantity this is panic buying at its best. tottenham buy modric, dos santos and want the two russians we want shorey see the difference in intent(i know london has a pull but we need to offer something). i know mon doesnt like big name players etc but somethings got to give we need to break the top 4/5 this season its a must and we need trophies. im 22 i'v only ever seen villa in 3 finals two league cups and an fa cup which we lost.

enuff said. transfer windows are the worst time of year for us villa fans constant refreshing of web pages at work ;D and nothing happens. Comon MON pull it out the bag we know u can

I'm sick of the continued comments like "OOH LOOK WHO SPURS HAVE BOUGHT! OR WHY CAN'T WE SIGN HIM FOR £70000000000000000000000 LIKE PORTSMOUTH." Where did these f*****s finish last season? Take a gamble on splashing out on 2 allegedly world class players or monitor real talent and potential aka YOUNG, GABBY, DAVIS. Unfortunately LONDON will ALWAYS be a more attractive option for players who are looking for a GUCCI lifestyle along with playing football. Some players however, will come to MON knowing that probably every area of their life will be enhanced by a truly decent man and exceptional manager. It will take a top 4 finish before we can sign the big boys that MON rates; not what YOU rate (GOLDIE 7) you worthless feck. Fergie was given 5yrs at the most prestigious club in the world, some are only giving MON 5 minutes. We have improved as a club since his introduction and can not see this stopping under his helm. COME ON VILLA!!!

Cheaper than Barry, and is more likely to splash the cash on him as his foreign, think even though we have 'tabled a bid', im sure Aresnal will be more attractive, i dont hold out much hope with this one, dont usually say this but hope im wrong!

MON transfer policy now seems to be becoming clearer and I suspected he was up to something. Obviously the idea was to qualify for the UEFA cup first before making a lot of solid offers in the transfer market. It makes perfect sense because European football is a bargaining chip when you are trying to sign a player. The idea of course being that you can offer the player something that some of the other clubs cannot. Every player wants to play in Europe and the more experienced ones don’t want anything less so sometimes they want guarantees and this is what we have now. I have no doubt that the club had lined a few names up but were waiting to conclude their other business first before making any approaches. Although a lot of people have been saying that this is a repeat of last year I don’t believe that this is the case. Although we are hearing much the same from MON and the Club all the rumblings from the players seem to be that there is some quality coming in and I think this is the biggest indicator of what is going to happen. The other thing I noticed a few weeks ago before we put the Bentley bid in was that our odds of breaking the top four were unusually high on Sky Bet, I mean higher than Portsmouth or City and if I recall perhaps Everton. This leads me to believe that there is word amongst the agents that Villa are going to be big spenders in the market. All speculation of course with a little optimism thrown in but only time will tell. ;)

i agree with mr P that we do need to start showing intent to buy european quality players but i also disagree that shorey is A panic buy. Shorey would be a great addition, its vital to be able to mix things up a bit so we can keep fresh in our league campaign and also have a good cup run, not to mention a good uefa cup run. I am also 22 and have only ever seen the same finals as you so i know your constant refreshing of the page antics are ******* frustrating. It's annoying that spurs are signing all the players i want to see us go for, but lets face it, half these guys are going there coz spurs have the money to pay their wages, I'm sure we have the money too but i think mon would prefer a balanced dressing room where everyone is as important as each other. De la red would be the signing of the summer for me.
also Darragh said that we should get de la red and then flog barry, no way man, we need barry to stay as i said before he is vital for at leas one more year and with quality additions like de la red around him imagine what we can achieve next year.
Anyway heres hoping to
De la red
El-kaddouri
shorey
guzan
miguel
mattock
And maybe a surprise signing or two. that would do it for me.
P.s i was thinking this morning what i would like to see RANDY bring back to villa park in the wake of restoring thr trinity road suite and for christmas i would like
one william mcgregor statue
one rebuilt and renamed north stand, even if they call it the bloody nike stand
i want one renamed doug ellis stand, preferably he ron saunders sand
BRING BACK THE AVFC FLOODLIGHTS
and maybe, just maybe a uefa cup to parade :)

ipbopmalik - you make some fair points - have to disagree regarding Modric and Dos Santos however.

I think (some) fans disillusionment comes from the fact that we were allegedly bought by a BILLIONAIRE owner two years ago who makes money available to MoN. Yet it seems that we cannot compete for players financially with Spurs, Pompey, Man City, West Ham and possibly even Sunderland, Boro, and Bolton. You might say we were not interested in any of the players they signed....possibly true. But how is the squad in its current situation if MoN does indeed have money to spend?? As for this call for patience - every club in europe must know how desperate we are getting for players especially in certain positions. The closer to the deadline - the more desperate we will become. Do you think that selling clubs will not take advantage of this?

Also this 'London' card is sounded out way too often and is nothing more than an excuse. Clubs all over the country have signed world renound players.

Ipbopmalik - unfortunately the line "where did x finish last season" is losing value by the day. That's old news now, these squads are changing shape - namely ours is getting smaller while everyone elses is getting bigger or better. You can't possibley use last seasons standings as a ground of comparison when the teams are different now.

Keep biding your time MON. The fact is we can god and buy our squad fillers now for £4-6m and then pay £10-15m for star players, or we can still pay £10-12m for star players and then get stung £6-8m for our squad players because everyone knows we've got cash to spend. Given the number of squad players we need, that will push our tranfer expenditure up by £10-15m and probably mean not buying a player or two as a result. Extremely frustrating stuff but keep the faith!! I think the squad players are coming first and expect 2-3 this week. I too am sick of refreshing my computer every 5 mins!!! UTV! See you at Reading on Sat.

On another note, Bill Howells blog is getting better. He has admitted that the club no longer inform him about events at VP. One too many bullshit story eh?

"Did the club ring to let me know a fee had been agreed with Blackburn over Brad Friedel? No they haven't. Should they? Well, I think so. But as always that sort of information comes from elsewhere."

i've been a villa fan all my life now we need to move forward. if we go in to the man city game with the team from sat we wont do well. knight needs to go and we need new full backs. other then webcam ashley we need creativity in midfield. carew may get goals upfront but we need some1 prolific someone who will score twenty plus a season when was the last time a villa forward did that.
whatever MON brings in i will support once in a villa shirt thats all you can do but we neede it quickly

I'm convinced that we'll sort it out in the end but i'm pleased that we aren't buying players just for buyings sake. It is important that we get the right people in. Most of the players you mentioned above are not what we need. Can you imagine having interview with MON? You'd need to impress him and convince him your head was right. That shrinks our pool of players significantly and i'm glad. Most players we've been linked with are just paper / agent talk so we shouldn't be negative that we aren't buying players whom we officially have absolutely no interest in signing!!

Perhaps we were after Crouch but at the time we weren't dealing with Liverpool and Portmouth paid a ridiculous sum of money for someone with 12 months left on their contract. Bosingwa would only go for a Champions League club so we've gotta wait until the end of next season before we can offer players that!!

I am not panicking like some at the moment but time is starting to run out other teams have improved their squads ours has just got smaller. Good to hear Barry is staying but is it just for this season or is he going to extend his contract - that is the question.
