I'm having a little look at the Champions League matches coming up this week and am starting with Liverpool because I remember so vividly the night they won the cup last year - one of the best nights of football I can remember.
Robbie Fowler could start and I hope he does. He's not as fit as he was when he left Liverpool but he is a predator who given a chance will score one out of three and I think if Liverpool play like they can and Steven Gerrard is up for it then I can see a few chances falling to Fowler.
I'd personally like to see him play alongside Peter Crouch or 'Crouchino' as I hear he is commonly referred to these days in Liverpool. The day David O'Leary sold Crouchino was a mistake and the day he signed for Liverpool confirmed this. The Liverpool manager knows what he wants and in Crouch he sees another option that not many teams get - a very big target man.
Benfica was probably the best draw Liverpool could have hoped for at this stage of the Champions League. I fully expect Liverpool to go through to the next round and if they are fortunate enough not to meet Barcelona in the next round then I see no reason why they can't make the final again.
I expect Liverpool to control this game and I think they'll either draw or win. It all depends on Gerrard in my opinion. When he was absent against Charlton recently they look different. It just demonstrates how important one player is and if Arsenal were to lose Henry I fear the same could happen to them week in week out. I'd even fancy Villa to beat Liverpool or Arsenal if Gerrard or Henry wasn't playing.
back to Liverpool This is a warm up match for the home tie at Anfield but when where I think Liverpool will come out on top and I'd love to see Fowler and Crouch play together. Crouch has that ability to flick the ball on and I think Fowler would love getting on the end of a few of them.
