Gordon, a right back and central defender

Sunday, 05 August 07, 03:23 AM · Comments (22)

It's in the Sunday Mirror and the News of the World today; we're going to get Craig Gordon from under the noses of Sunderland.

I like Gordon and I've said on a few occasions that we need better than Sorensen if as a team we are going to get better and I think Gordon would make us better.

The price speculated on now is £6mn. which some of you are going to say is too much but it really isn't and some of you will say he's not proven at the top level, but that really is irrelevant in terms of goalkeepers, especially when you look at some of his displays for Scotland, especially the recent match against Italy.

Craig Gordon would make us better and a goalkeeper is needed, along with a right back and central defender.

The new right back will be brought in early next week and Aston Villa will start the season with a new player and not Craig Gardner playing there. It is the number one priority for the manager along with a central defender.

It's fair to say that there is a risk with Martin Laursen and because of that Martin O'Neill is still chasing Bruno Alves of Porto and Jose Bosingwa but Porto are wanting a little more than Aston Villa are willing to pay for both players.

More players are coming next week and the club are working on it even as I write this. Should be a very exciting week.

I don't care how much we have to pay for a keeper at this stage I just wish we'd signed a keeper a couple of weeks ago- it's not exactly ideal preparation. Anyway we will get a top class keeper this week coming and if it's Gordon then I will be delighted, Carson or Jaaskelainen would also do and their price tags are rumoured to be similar to Gordon's. Along with the possible signing of Gordon the addition of a decent right back and centre back will make us so much more solid at the back and will give the team a more complete look about it. Bosingwa, Rosenior, Hoyte?- I'm not really fussed they're all pretty good. As for centre back Davies and Hangeland are the most recent rumours so I presume we will sign one from that pair. I would personally go for Davies for the extra £4 million but with the way MO'N has reluctantly spent money this summer I wouldn't be surprised if we signed Hangeland.

i think we will sign, gordon, rosenior, and davis. i'll also think we will get hoyte in aswell as hangeland, so we can have strong back-up and a really quality squad.

Oh well I'm off down the beach then, but it's great to be a Villa fan and be so positive about the season, I think we will make it into uefa next season and that will be brilliant also we will hammer the blues x2 and embarrass a few bigger teams they won't know what to make of our pace, power and energy, let's hope we start with the scousers!

I actually do believe we have will sign four more players, three before pool' game. I think Davies, Gordon and Rosenoir are coming in a 18m triple swoop, i then think Hoyte will join later. I then believe that Sorensen will leave Villa and i wouldnt be suprised if he ends up back at Sunderland. Its gonna be a big week.

To Taglor

Mate i dont want to sound like a tite git but there are loop holes around having to pay for a TV licence. Apparently providing your TV is not in view of any TV licence officers (Through the front window)they cannot do you for not having a licence. Here is a site that might give you a bit of insight on getting around paying it!!

In the meantime if i find any info on getting away from paying council tax i will let you all know ;)

Up the Villa!!!!

I have heard that W.B.A have had a bid accepted for a defender today so that can only mean one thing.......Davis is on his way. Apparently Spurs also want him so it is up to us to convice him to come. I think he will sign along side Gordon, Alves, Bosingwa and maybe Hoyte. That would be 4 quaility signings for us and would make us strong. Thanks Sorensen for what you have done but it is time to move aside my friend!

it is not on skysports and neither is sunderland-juventus - because sky do not have rights to highlights of games shown on setanta.

It is clear what we need and all the press are pushing the same names our way, Craig Gordon has the potential to make this number 1 spot his own for years to come - I feel this is a done deal, interesting how Sorensen injured himself with a hamstring injury, this generally indicates a lack of fitness - maybe he knew he was number 2 some time ago.

The fact that Aaron Hughes was allowed to leave the club cearly indicates that O'Neill had a player lined up as a replacement that has not come off for some reason - we are talking about a plyer to help us progress - the names quoted are all stop gaps - If we were to make a move for Curtis Davies who apparently has the potential to play comfortably in the premiership then I wouldnt be surprised to see Mellberg occupy the right hand side as this is a position were he is comfortable and plays for the national side, maybe this scenario until we can get our man in the January window.

Good full backs who stand on their feet nowdays are like gold dust - there are plenty of average players about but with the system for which O'Neill is playing the need for top quality is essential, if there was mileage in the Rosenior scenario then I am sure Luke Young could have done equally as good a job at 2.5m.

Two utility players are required with experience; midfield holding and defensive cover across the back 4; I can think of several who can do job.

At the end of the day 10 players have left and with the exception of Angel "who would never get a game anyhow" it feels positive to remove these average players from the squad.

Dont get down about transfer activity - the reason for the delays is simply the players will be in breech of contract if they request a move; Seven Davis left the club withou a penny as he requested a move whereas Djemba Djemba received a pay off - Criminal. Their clubs need to actively move them on to make it financially viable for both the player and Villa - hence the reason why these deals are done already but not public domaine.

You can just sense the entusiam and togetherness coming out of villa park. It seems we have a squad in which everyone gets on, a luxury most teams dont have (any team joey barton has ever played for).

Strong rumours coming out about Craig Gordan, very exciting. It seems Bosingwa has left the lime light, however MON is incredibly discrete.

Love to see Curtis Davies at the club, he has the personality to fit right into our team and in him and cahill we have possibly the future england centre halfs, alongside dawson of spurs and taylor of newcastle.

Right back i dont care who we get, every right back we have been linked with is decent and all very attack minded. It seems MON knows specifically what he is looking for. Cant say the same about Erikkson at City or Potato head.

Laughed my ass off at ghaly ruining his move to small heath having his agent tell potato head his players weren't good enough, honest lad. Thanks dion's schlong, that's great, can't believe we still all pay it, it is mental we can't have the choice to just not watch shite bbc channels and not pay. In years to come people will look back amazed we paid the fee for so long, every home shopuld at least get to choose what they want on bbc if you pay over a hundred sodding quid on it, if I can't have footy what else is there? I could buy a Villa kit with that money.

Things are on the up at the Villa now following a summer of uncertainty. I think we'll do well next season if we get a right back or two, a centre back and a new keeper. There were many positive signs from yesterday's game. We looked awesome up front with the pace and skill of Young, Gabby and Moore and we look as if we have plenty of goals in us and Carew didn't even play- hope he's not injured! We've been saying all summer that we're in need of a right midfielder but I think O'Neill was never in the market for that type of play because we're going to line up 4-3-3 next season so that Barry, Petrov and Reo-Coker can all paly in the midfield- another fantastic trio. So basically we only need to tighten up at the back and that should be done this week with Gordon, Jaaskelainen, Bosingwa, Rosenior, Hoyte, Hangeland and Davies all mentioned. I'm predicting a good season for us and I really believe we could surprise a few and get into Europe!

Gordon would be a good signing and as martin LOVES to say value for money cause gordon has got years ahead of him and he could be our number 1 for years and years to come

Still tho i dont care who we sign and dont sign cause i gave up hopeing for anyone to sign

its better that way because then when and if someone dose sign it will come as a massive shock........

I think we will get another 4/5 players in before the transfer window. A new Keeper is a must if we want to push on up the table. Id love Gordon or Carson.

I think we will see alot of transfers for us this week and these will be deals that have been developing for weeks.

How many of you have actually seen anything of Craig Gordan?

He is absolutely fantastic, showcasing his talent in the premiership could soon become rated as one of the best keepers in the world. Would be a brilliant coup and a Villa Park hero for years to come.

Gordon has been the one i've been praying for all summer, fantastic keeper.
I still fancy the idea of Bosingwa and Hangeland and hope we get these as well. I do like Davies but he is a little expensive.
It's now looking very, very good indeed at AV...bring on the coming week !

If we can nab Gordon i'd be very happy! A few weeks ago i said that i wouldn't want us to spend £9m on a keeper but at this moment in time if we got him i wouldnt care about the price i just care that we've got some more quality and numbers in the squad!
Keep your fingers crossed! ;D
