This is just a rumour on the BBC Sport website, but the BBC don't usually put things like this up unless they're 99% sure it's got some truth behind it.
Apparently Craig Gordon has been given permission to talk to Villa and Sunderland after bids of around £9m were accepted from each club.
I'm hoping Gordon would choose Villa over Sunderland but football's a funny game and you never know. Hopefully he'll sign for one club or the other in the next couple of days.
We still need a right back and solid centre-back and some backup in midfield so it could be a busy week for MON.

OOh nice news, the only worry is that sunderland is much closer to scotland for home visits. Mind you I would move to mars for the wages and chance to play for villa!
i think we will bring in 3 more signing before end of transfer window
the most possibility is hangeland/curtis davies ,bosingwa and gordon
if 3 more are coming,i will have high hope next season!
I think Sunderland is his best bet. Villa have to many empty seats to a passionate Scot who wants to get to the top. Only Sunderland can offer this. Villa, Big name once upon a time, Sunderland on a role.
Im a Norwegian Villa fan, and I hope to God we bring in Hangeland.
I personally compare him to John Terry. I am 100% sure he will be one of the best signings ever for Villa if we do go for him.
I've been told from a good source he's deffo signing for sunderland, gordon had a medical at the s.o.l on saturday morning. The only reason he is choosing sunderland is because that he is still going to be close to edinburgh.
He would be a great signing, that would be a lot of money if you consider that amount spread over the time he will potentially be here. Lets hope he joins us over a team that could easiy go down next year.
CHIM CHIMENEY CHIM CHIMENEY CHIM CAREW WHO NEEDS SCHEVCHENKO WHEN WE'VE GOT CAREW !!!!!!!!!!!! lets get this sang down the villa on sat
Just had a phone call off my mate whos works at the villa he said theres gonna be 2 big names who are gonna sign at 4pm 2day lets get down there
Nice to see the big signings are on the way Hope to see Curtis Davies in a villa shirt and if we got a good fullback europe would not be out of the question
Too many empty seats, Liverpool is a sell-out, like many other games will be his season, highest season ticket sales ever, come on, why go play for a relegation candidate rather than an european candidate?!?!
Come to the Villa
bollards: please please please tell me your taking the piss?
Sunderland are going to be pretty close to relegation this season, i don't want them to be relegated because i'm irish and most of the irish team plays for them, keane is also my all time favourite player. But seriously their team is shite, keane will need to be some sort of magician to avoid relegation. there is know way gordon will choose sunderland over villa
looks like we ent signing craig gordon it is on skysports news that he is meeting the sunderland boss roy keane and is having his medical looks like we have missed out on another player :(
Sunderland would be the more convenient destination for Gordan, but unless hes not so bright and Keane thats a load of spiel about how sunderland will be pushing for europe bla bla, i cant see a young ambition player turning us down for Sunderland.
I hope we get Curtis Davies, hes a fantastic player. What would your ideal centre back partnership be?
Davies, mellberg, laursen, cahill. I am confident at having any 2 of them in our starting line up.
Bollards is either a nose or a sunderland fan lol But there is the possibility he'd go there or somewhere up north to be close to his family. Then theres MON Who is well respected north of the border plus theres the buzz of europe around Villa, Not like at the s.o.l where there buzz to actually finish above 20th this season.
Even if gordan is having a medical at sunderland, Didn't harewood have one at wigan? before we signed him.
if gordon goes 2 sunderland it looks like we'll be seeing a top class keeper rejecting europe for a team going back 2 the championship
Even if we miss out on gordan i'd like to think MON would be willing to spend that amount of money on Carson or some other keeper.
Lol sorry about the spelling Gordon* i really should use a pc to write on this!
I hope to god all Villa fans aren't think,,,, Oh dear, we said all this about the Mackems when they were after Gordon,,,, in a few months time.... It could be the other way around!!! Nothing doing for too long with MON, only a couple in the door, and now trying to blow £9M on Gordon, when Keane has been chasing him for months, pie in the sky. I'll eat my own loose change if it comes off!
Wtf you babbling about? How do you know MON wasn't actively chasing him most of the summer? the difference with the managers is keanes buying championship players just like sunderland did before then got relegated, also keane can't stop babbling on about who he's chasing or made an offer for.
Can't see Gordon choosing SOL over VP for anything other than family reasons. And that could be remedied by flying to Scotland, its only 40 mins or summat.
All the footy reasons would point to VP. Better proven manager, here and Scotland, better players, better fans, better ground, better euro prospects. Simply the better option........
Sounds like a lot of money but we could use a new keeper so I hope he signs for us. That said, I think Sunderland will do well this season. I expect them to be top 10, not relegation candidates. I've no particular like or dislike for them - that's just my instinct. And Keane is a powerful figure - maybe he'll like him. Hopefully he'll see the light and go with O'Neill.
Bollards ! More like b******s! Sunderland are and always will be nothing more than a yo-yo team destined to win division 2 every couple of seasons, and they should be happy with that but saying they are on a role because they got promoted (Sheff utd and watford anyone)
I'll be pretty bummed if Gordon picks Sunderland.
Villain from texas
Prepare to be bummed! :o lol! He's having a medical at Sunderland as we speak!
Who thinks bollards should eat his change already?
Bollards = W****r
someone is lieing because on bbc sport it says permission to speak to villa and sunderland and sky sports say hes having medical at sunderland someone is lieing wonder which one
Its a done deal. I'm not fit to wear the top on Dudley beach (LOL). I come clean. I am from the red and white part of the North East. May the best team win(or get relegated!). I reckon you lot will struggle IMHO. I actually like Villa, always have from growing up as a kid, but am suprised MON has not had one or two more high profile signings by now. He needs to start delivering. Its often said a team needs a good spine, I reckon Sorrenson, McCann and Phillips would be up for it! (Who the hell are they?)
Gordon would be mad to turn down villa over sunderland. i think that hangeland and davis will sign for us today, if gordon doesn't sign that is. its gonna be a busy week for villa, about time too. bollards is a load of B******s!
fair enough I accept you lot have better players and better hopes of europe, but better fans and better ground ;D
record season tickets sales of around 18000 - we had near enough that in the CHAMPIONSHIP last season!!
you lot have been the top club in the 2nd city for years, and yet rarely sell out, home and away!!
and as for a better ground - ;D :D
Jon the Bee : Better fans, better stadium??? Errrm, I think not! Listen, there is a good chance he will come to you. You have a better chance of european qualification this year but to say you have a better stadium and fans is just stupid. We consistently get bigger crowds (Even in the championship we averaged over 35k) and as for your stadium... 10 years and it will be time to bulldoze it i'm afraid
Who got relegated with a record low points tally 2 years ago, beating their own inept record?
I understand that Sunderland have an excellent stadium - a few people I know who have been really do rate it - so I won't comment on that, but I WILL say that I doubt it's BETTER than Villa Park.
Our fans are very good - sometimes I think we're a little quiet at home, but that was mostly the season before last under O'Leary. Last 9 months or so we've been very vocal and turned out in good numbers I reckon.
I think we pretty much always sell out our away tickets, so I dunno where you got that one from.
Really do hope Gordon comes to Villa over Sunderland :)
the fact that your club are delighted with ST sales of 18000 tells you something - your support isnt all that you crank it up to be!!
sunderland - good fans or bad fans? dont really care.
Aston Villa are the bigger club ... trophies, never been relegated from the premiership. Its a massive achievement for you just to get there, so i always think THAT TELLS YOU SOMETHING
If gordon wants to go to sunderland - then good luck to him, he can be the higest paid player in the champoinship next year and spend training sessions helping Dwight Yorke out with his zimmerframe.
Sunderland's just a bus stop in Newcastle - UP THE VILLA!!!
says on Sky Sports gordon is having medical at sunderland so looks like we miss out again!!!
I have no doubts that at this moment in time, most safc fans would love sunderland to be a club like villa - stablised in the premiership and pushing on for europe.
I dont dispute that you have better aspirations for europe and a better squad, but to say about better fans and a better stadium really is laughable!!
I stand corrected on the issue of you selling only 18000 season tickets, it is in fact over 22000, still however, 8000 less than ourselves.
your stadium has been given a 4* status by uefa (I actually enjoy coming to villa park - even though we usually lose there) whereas our own is a 5* - one of only 8 teams in europe to achieve this.
but, as we all know football is played on the pitch and as things stand, I believe your squad is better than our own. but, football is a funny game, only time will tell
good luck next season
Im not going to be disrespectful to Sunderland. I wish them all the best. Gordon knows where he is going but i think most people will expect him to pick Villa. Villa have more going for them and are challenging for a European place. Sunderland have alot of money but i think some of the players they have brought in are not PL quality.
Someone said over on 606 that Keane is more high profile than MON and i thought well does that really matter? who is the better manager? Sunderland may have a bigger stadium currently but that means nothing. Think of this Leeds Utd have the 11th biggest stadium in England (bigger than 1/2 the prem) and where are they?
Im not sure if Sunderland will stay in the PL or not but they are definatly relegation candidates whereas Villa are European candidates.
For me (granted i am abit biased) its a no brainer to where Gordon should go.
Craig Gordon must have some kind of special love for Sunderland because there is no way in hell you would choose them over Villa! (Footballing reasons, not location!)
Risk being relegated instead of going to a european challenging team?? there is something wrong there!
Obviously the other reason is simply it is closer to Scotland and if this is his reason behind it, they can have him! The type of player who would rather be close to Scotland and ruin his career at a relegation candidate than move house to the Midlands and gain a great footballing career, is not what i am interested in!
Good luck Gordon, make sure you get your head tested first while having ur medical!
5 live reporting he's agreed terms with the mackems. another one bites the dust eh? haha, villa fans = deluded mupperts Another mid table mediocracy i reckon :P
I marvel at the ignorance of what a real fan is on here. VP is a graveyard when it comes to atmosphere. We brought 6000 down there during our 19 point relegation season long after it was a mathematical certainty. You lot needed a point to ensure survival (yes your SO secure in the prem) yet the fans were as flat as a fart as usual.
Of course a quick promotion followed by an embarrassing 15 season is mocked here, and rightly so. But looking at the support you and your European High Fliers were out gunned by the real fans at the SOL. You have and always will be a joke off the pitch. As Sunderland is too far you faithful to travel, try St Andrews, The Hawthorns or Molenieux. Always impressed me more than VP
dont believe everything talksport has to say!!! I really hope it is true though. does M'ON not rate tommy sorenson or something?
The better fan issue is simply down to the expectations that come from being a fan of a GREAT club. We've won the European Cup, and so any mid-table finish is hardly going to inspire us. Whereas, the likes of the Mackems, West Brom and Wolves will cheer vacuously at the mediocracy that comes from winning the Championship. When we get back to where we belong, which we all got a sight of at the back end of last season, VP will strike fear into any team in the prem. As for VP being out of date, that's a joke. It's a work of art that gets better with age.
I KNOW YOU HAVE THE TITLE RACE AND THE RACE FOR EUROPE
BUT.... IM ESPECIALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING WHO FINISHES 18TH, 19TH, AND 20TH OUT OF BIRMINGHAM, SUNDERLAND AND DERBY.
LETS FACE IT ALL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS WITH CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYERS AND NEVER GOING TO BE NOTHING MORE.
GOOD LUCK THO RELEGATION CANDIDATES!
can I just ask, what has winning the european cup 20something years ago got to do with anything?? forest won it twice. does that make them a bigger club than you??
Hearts' £9m-rated goalkeeper, Craig Gordon, has been given permission to hold transfer talks with Sunderland and Aston Villa, BBC Sport understands.
And it is believed that the 24-year-old started two days of training with Sunderland on Monday before heading for a similar spell at Villa Park.
from the bbc website, at the mo, until hes holding a respective shirt aloft, i wont believe anything
safctony= RETARD
im sorry but when the fa cup final comes around is stadium of SH*t chossen to play at NOOOOO its villa park. and as for sum people sayin graig gordon is avin a medical at sunderland if u actually read on the website it states that a deal has been agreed by premierie league club. now i think 9m is way over sunderlands tiny bujet and are probably only willing to pay a million were as we ave got ALOT more money to spend than sunderland cuz are charmins a billionaire and urs is a millionaire ;D ;Dup the villa
It could go either way although i think after the 2 day trial at each he will pick Villa. We have more going for us at the moment. Alot of Sunderlands players are unproven and i think after this season we will see where they are headed weather that be back to the Championship or heading towards Europe.
I do expect after this 2 day trial thing at each (if its true) he will sign for us. If he does i will feel abit sorry for Tommy as i actually quite liked him.
Sunderland fans if gordon chooses you fair play but dont turn it into who is the bigger club becouse that is just a joke we are the 4th most succesfull team in england you come in at about 8th. VILLA-- 1 Champions League (European Cup)trophy,7 1st Division(Top Flight)trophys, 7 FA Cups, 5 League cups. SUNDERLAND--6 1st Division(Top Flight)trophys, 2 FA Cups. Nuf said..
think Villa will be in for a struggle this season tbh
dont think theres much between Sundeland and Villa as for who Gordon chooses. Villa are established in the Premiership but were awful at times last season, Sunderland are on a role and looking to make an impact
think location might have alot to do with it and in that case Sunderland have the advantage
i personally would probably pick Villa based purely on football as i imagine most people would, but taking into account stadium, facilities, fans etc... Sunderland may just edge it
certainly interesting
Marc are you having a laugh? How long have you followed football? Our two clubs connot be compared villa practicly created the way football is today, you are a nothing club get used to it pal.
last time sunderland were in the premiership they were shocking and the only reason they came up this season was the Keane factor & that the Championship was very poor. When a team comes up from the championship they often struggle & this season will be no different. I think the Sunderland fans are fantastic & would like the team to do well just purely for the fans, but i don't believe they have enough quality players to mount any kind of a challenge & will probably be fighting relegation again, hope i'm wrong.
I'm honestly not bothered if we get Gordon or not as i think Sorenson will prove most of you lot wrong, the guy has had no real pressure for a few years now & with his place in danger i feel we will see the best in him, people keep ranting and raving about saying he don't marshall his defence or he lets a few slip by, but lets not forget the many times he has played superb, we have Melberg to captain the defence, NRC & Barry to captain the midfield & Carew to do the same up-fron,t so let them captain the team.
Marc are you having a laugh? How long have you followed football? Our two clubs connot be compared villa practicly created the way football is today, you are a nothing club get used to it pal.
and their lies the arrogance of football fans these days
you might think Villa are a massive club as you support them, they dont seem that looking in from the outside.
both Villa and Sunderland are ambitious clubs looking to progress this season, the fact that you all seem to claim Gordon would be off his head to consider us over you lot just shows how arrogant clubs who have a very good history but at this current moment in time are just an average mid table premier league side who dont seem to do anything, and infact tried their best to get pulled into a relegation battle at times last season. you's arent going to qualify for Europe, the top five are sorted and the likes of West Ham, City, Newcastle, Everton, Pompey, Blackburn all have stronger squads than yourselves
I don't think we need to have an argument about who is the better or bigger club. Gordon will have his own, long-term reasons for whoever he decides to sign for.
Sunderland are quite a few years away from having the players and training facilities that Villa have, so if he goes there it must be because Roy Keane has impressed him with his long-term vision. I can't imagine he'll go there because of Sunderland's proximity to Edinburgh. I think Roy Keane will turn out to be an excellent manager and I reckon Sunderland could do well this season.
I don't think there will be much difference between the two clubs, attendance-wise and he has the lure of European football at Villa. I can only assume that, if he's got a determination to win things soon, he will pick Villa. If not, either Keane has hypnotised him or MON doesn't want him after all.
Of course, there's always the chance that he wants a stepping stone to the top 4, and being a big fish in a smaller pond might help him get noticed by one of the big guns quite quickly.
I think the two day trial thing at both clubs for Gordon is the sensible thing for all if it's true although it's cutiing it a bit fine for Saturday. It will then be up to the player to choose and he would be mad if didn't pick AV.
Let him spend some time at our training ground, see the spirit in our lads and talk with MON and he'll be ours.
I don't see the distance from Scotland as a problem, someone has already said he could easily fly from Brum. Saying that, with the wages he'll be on, he could afford his own helicopter if he wanted !
There's a lot of Sunderland fans on here disputing Villa's ability though...did they not see us destroy Inter Milan ?
It's fair to say they're on the up with an exciting but terribly unproven management team and a nice ground. I don't think they'll get relegated because they will have the same feel good factor that AV are currently experiencing. But lower end of the table deffo and zero points out of Villa next season.
May the best team win and all that.
UP THE VILLA ;)
Just a comment on the clubs facilities, are we all forgetting that our own players were shocked by the bodymoor heath training ground, so can you imagine how an outside player will react when he has a look!
I dont know which team he will pick but i think if he picks SOL over VP it will be down to Keano's profile and nothing else.
SUNDERLAND - location, Keane
VILLA - training facilities, bigger club, better club, MON, better players, Higher aspirations, European football, success.
Similarities - Grounds, attendance
at fiffyfu, just because the official club tells us its the best in europe doesn't mean you should believe it ..
i was fortunate enough to visit arsenals 3 or 4 years ago near st albans and its as good as ours is today if not a little better
we're actually getting to the party quite late in terms of technology, swimming/training pools etc. so it's fairly safe to say while it all looks good others, sunderlands included, might also be quite impressive
however. i've just taken a straw poll of a non vill amates and while they all agree that roy keane does have some pull they all also agree that in terms of potential for this season and the next 3 if a player was to pick a club he should pick villa
i saw sunderland playing in ireland and to be honest they struggled big time. so ye need a better keeper more than villa because ye will leek alot of goals and sorenson is handy enough so he will do til celtic let o neill have boruc who i would rate as good as gordon. there is nothing on the villa website about gordon and til they say anything i dont beleive we made a bid. and as for who is the bigger club come on that would just mental to think that sunderland a team who down more times than jenna jameson, were bigger than an established never been out of the premiership, 4th most sucessful team in english football history.
UTV.
The team at present is accomplishing a great deal in the pre season. Panic is unecessary and the comparing of ego's, please, all teams have their merits and faults. Potentialy Gordon could be a waste of good funds as he has been conditioned by a low standard of football. I have seen some of his performances and some left me in awe but i couldn't stop thinking that if it was Drogba or Rooney taking those strikes then he wouldn't look so God-like. I'm immensely satisfied by the progress at villa park and only hope that some of the fans can resist the urge to support the notion that 'high profile' signings are essential in winning games.
Besides, there isn't really a goalkeeping crisis at villa park. If we weren't winning last season we were drawing and that identifies faults in other area's but not in goal. Lets direct our hopes and dissapointments elsewhere because Sorrensen hasn't failed us just yet.
to DanDan
sorry to disagree slightly mate. Our two keepers are ok but IMO neither Tommy or Taylor really inspire confidence for the rest of the team and I think that some of Tommy's bad decisions caused quite a few of the goals against last season.
I'd really like to see Craig Gordon at the Villa, but i don't see why you say Rooney and Drogba would bother him. It doesn't matter who hits the ball, if its going in only the keeper can stop it and some of the saves i've seen him make are nothing short of unbelievable.
UP THE VILLA ;)
I have a feeling MoN is going to have to tell him that he will need to fight for his place and earn the spot from Sorenson at sunderland he will be the first choice. If this is the case and he chooses sunderland then we are better off without him, if he comes to villa knowing their will be a fight on his hands for the position then he is just the sort of player we need
bbc says man city in the race now
Man City are buying a whole new squad. I dont think they will steal him away now (could be wrong) as he wont want a 2 day trial with them aswell because then he wouldnt be able to play the first match for any of the teams.
But if Man City offer more as they are apprently prepared to do £10M i think we should drop the interest. I think anything above £10M really is excessive. I thought Gordon was not going to play for Hearts tonight? perhaps he is going to stay with Hearts after all this.
I hope MON hasnt pinned all his hopes on Gordon and has a few backups as we should offer Gordon more than Sunderland & Man City but it is a hard one to call.
gordon is a mint keeper hes flexible and quick on his feet yes so he is worth 9m but is it just me or is villa the only team in the premiership that isnt buying ridgwell you little betrayer
'Lil Villan' I take it you are either A/ Guatemalan B/ Dyslexic or C/ Six and a half
For the literate, Sunderland's state of the art Academy of Light training facility opened to glowing reports from sports journalists and players a like last year. The term '2nd to none' is a regular quote from visitors such as Geoff Hurst as recently as last week. Some of you are not too clued up are you ?
Who the hell do sunderland think they are?
What are your fans doing on our forum?
Sunderland are a small club with little history. They have signed very very average players because they cannot attract decent players however many Keane claims to be bidding for. They have a big sqaud however drastically lacking in quality. I dont quite see where there goals are going to come from and have every confidence that will be playing championship football next season.
Your living in a dream world mackems.
In fairness, Gordon has two decent clubs to pick from, and will probably be happy at either one. There should be two factors for him to decide with. The factor in our favour is that we have big ambitions in the present, whereas Sunderland will have ambition in years to come, but are likely to be concentrating on survival this season. In Sunderland's favour is the location that is closer to Scotland, and definitely commutable to see his family more often. This can have a huge bearing on a player leaving his home for the first time, dare i say. I think, as a player, he should look for the more ambitious club, with more potential, which is obviously the Villa. But who knows?
said on bbc the hearts boss thinks he will go to sunderland, the guy on talksport who is supposed to be his mate said he will make up his mind til hed met both clubs.was confident at dinnertime not so sure now!!
lets just hope MON and assumingly fitz (if randys not still in the country that is) can do a better job of selling the club than o'dreary and deadly, remember beattie, when they really wanted him but couldnt be assed to talk to him? (dodged a bullet IMO)
in a way i feel sorry for gordon, he's had a massive price tag put on him, and if man city get him on trail as well he's in for alot of spiel and BS this week
i just hope that if he can see through all of that villa is realistically the better option for furthering his career, and at least we have a half decent back 4 compared to sunderland and man city!
About all the speculations that he is more likely to go to Sunderland of course he is, he is currently on trial there so has a feel for the place and has connected in someway to the club. It is now down to Villa to show him that we are ahead of Sunderland (and Man City if they are serious about coming in for him) and that we are going to improve alot as a club. If he chooses Sunderland and says its because he wants to be closer to home then i think he is abit silly.
Its seems with many here their arrogance about Villa is only surpassed by their ignorance about Sunderland. Hopefully your in for a shock but as in all things sport there are no guarantees' and nothing surprises me anymore. The simple facts are, you donâ€t have good support, your not considered a serious threat on the Premiership or Europe, your ground is average at best and the midlands is not the Riviera.
You will maybe sway his decision with that delightful accent, who knows ? I will leave by wishing you well and look forward to seeing your usual 900 at the SOL.
Good Day.
I have just heard on talk sport that Gordon has been told to sign for Sunderland. Apparently there is a problem with Villas offer. He was supposed to travel to Villa last night but he is still in Sunderland.
I can't help but be a little unsure of the report from talksport about our offer. How can there be a problem with it? It stinks of somebody putting together their own story because he isn't at villa yet. But who knows, i could be wrong.
Spenny are you seriously trying to tell us that Sunderland have a better chance of breaking into Europe and they have a better support than us. I can remember just a couple of seasons ago when Sunderland were relegated with a record low number of points that game after game fans were leaving at half time and a stadium that seats 49,000 was holding about 25,000 fans who were only there to watch the away teams' players- great support mate, I'm sure that will sway Gordon's decision.
Spenny, very biast opinion there mate.
Sunderlands support at villa park has always been very very poor. For villa fans its a long way to travel to watch a poor side in sunderland. Also last time we met in the premiership we took just over 2,500 to the SOL because i was one of them.
Could you please explain your reasons behind thinking you have a better ground than us? Yours is more modern and newer, however its not bigger and does not look anywhere near as good.
Can all you sunderland fans just have a long hard look at your squad like i have just done, its embarassing to say the least. I can sense a record low point tally in the premiership again this year.
Jimmy D :- No Im not telling you any of those things. I suggest you reread my post. Unlike some on this forum few up here are under any illusions with regard to Europe or World domination. We are also acutely aware of our recent history thanks. After all we were there week in week out watching one shambolic season follow another, thousands of us.
My posts are aimed at the arrogance displayed by some of your own. Your Aston Villa FFS !!! The fixture most fans will choose to miss if they must plan a wedding during the season, because its such a drab affair. no away support to talk of and a deathly atmosphere at VP. We are all guilty of biased views toward our clubs and sometimes need an outsiders opinion to bring us back down to earth. This is VERY much the case here.
PS:- If you know Lil Villan by any chance, try and explain that VP is not the chosen FA Cup venue for Architectural Reasons rather than Geographical. Im sure he wont understand but hopefully his Father can explain when next on parole.
Keep your feet on the ground boys !
Spenny your going back down mate, your championship team with championship players, and championship fans.
Sorry mate but ive been to sunderland twice once with villa once with Man utd (mate had free tickets) and you cannot even compare the atmosphere of the SOL to Villa park. Your fans are terrible absolutely awful.
I dont mind you voicing your opinions and you obviously know what your talking about, and i agree there are alot of idiots on this site, but please dont compare us to sunderland we are simply head and shoulders above in every department.
manager, ground, team, training ground, youth set up, fans, aspirations, sponsor, players, young english players, franchise, money, attraction.
We are in a different league, you have the right city but not the right team, you should be comparing yourselves to Birmingham.
"The west midlands is not a riviera" Spenny please mate before you talk about the west midlands you should take a look around the north east (if you can see through the smog)becouse the only time i ever went there i thought even your country side looked like waist land(A scene from mad max) the only way teams around there will attract players is by offering masive wages.I dont normaly get involved with this but these sunderland fans are a joke.
aint half some mongs on here!!!
lil villan - you want to try typing that in some sort of english for the rest of us to understand? when has villa park hosted an FA cup final?? also, try looking at some transfer figures for this summer, I think you will find that we have spent more than you, so I dont see the logic behind your statement of a tiny BUDGET. and it was gordons agent who said yesterday that he was having a medical with us.
ayersy - can you explain the comment about our stadium not being as big as yours?? VP (42500) against the SOL (49000)?? but, dont let facts get in the way of your ignorance. also, we have poor away fans down at villa?? well how about the last 2 seasons when we were already relegated with a record low points total, and we sold out our end and partied all game??
our away fans are considered by many to be some of the best in the country. 8000 at barnsley last season. 6000 at preston. 3000 at southampton for a 5.30 kick off on bank holiday monday. 5000 at derby. 5500 at leeds on a tuesday night. when was the last time you took that many supporters to a match??
as already mentioned, yes your training ground may be spectacular but so is ours, and has also been labelled second to none in the last couple of weeks by sir geoff.
obviuosly we're all biased. and yes villa probably are the 'safest' option for gordon to choose. but some of you lot need to a) stop living in the past - you're almost as bad as the scousers and b) stop being so ignorant about teams when you decide to slag them off
Sunderland dont compare with villa dont even come close, and its getting very boring now with Sunderland fans on this blog, who did not sell villa out there fans were terrible and the home support silent.
The only thing sunderland have in common with us is were in the same league, and that wont be the case in a years time.
dont side step the argument ayersy, how can you say your ground is bigger?? and when did we not sell out at villa??
Sunderland's ground is bigger and has been awarded the 5* rating whereas Villa's only has a 4* rating but its what happens on the pitch that counts(this has already been said.) You can have the best fans in the world & the best stadium but if your team isnt good enough then you'll still go down. Leeds utd have the 11th biggest stadium in England and where are they? so that means little.
This is a Villa blog so we are all going to be biased about Gordon coming to Villa. But the facts are there, Sunderland are a newly promoted club who many people believe will be fighting relegation this season, They have spent more money than us currently yes but some of it on unproven players, Villa are pushing for Europe this season just as Sunderland could make it aswell but not many people think they are contenders.
Basically Gordon will pick who is best for him for whatever reason (remember Man City are still apprently going to put a bid of £10M in)and he will be a great player for either of the clubs.
a lot of sense from the flabster there. totally agree with everything you just said, just hope the rumours about egghead magnusson wanting him are untrue as this could rumble on for a long time
To our maccan friend Spenny,
What on earth does he think Sunderland have got to offer, apart from Roy Keane? This is the team that scrapped over the line last season. if it was'nt for the baggies and the wolves falling away towards the end they would have maybe still there in the 2nd division. so lets just wait and see where you end up...
safctony stop doing a BB Charley and stop annoying every fu...., Yes they have larger capacity but villas sq foot capacity is larger than yours & if it wasn't for the fact that a part of villa ground is grade listed the capacity would be a lot larger. My understanding is that Randy Lerner wants to increase the capacity to 53,000 which will make it more larger than yours.
Without sounding petty because i believe Sunderland fans are pretty decent & would never doubt your support to your club, but have you compared squads, we blow your lot out of the water, they don't even look close, ours are full of england U21 players and seasoned internationals, i looked at your squad and only recognised 7 players, okay admittedly the same was when Reading came up and you might do well with what you got, but mate don't compare the teams because you don't even come close.
Were not arrogant & yes sometimes we do glow about the past, but when you look at our so called past it is a lot more recent than when you last won a cup (1973).
well this is to Bollard Spenny, you'll need a good keeper cause he'll have plenty to do next season in the SOL. good luck with the relegation battle your gonna need it. what you gonna do when Roy Keane gets snapped up by a bigger side like wigan or reading or dare i say the TOON... LOL
how am I annoying everyone?? by stating a few facts?? I have no doubt that yes your squad is probably better all round. I have no problem with that tbh as it is something I agree with. however what I dont agree with is the claims from here that your support is better, but its all about opinions and we're bound to disagree on that 1 ;D ;D
also, if need be our stadium can be extended to around 65000 if need be.
I apologise if I have p****d anyone off, but its all about opinions.
sorry spenny for stating my point that villa are better than your low league finsihing team but heres sumthink u could do. go to ur own sunderland blog instead of littering our aston villa one that is if sunderland fans can actually afford 1. any comment to if sunderland have 1 please tell me
and safctony sorry if i for got to put semi in the sentence fa cup final and as for sunderland spending more if you look at the players u have actually bought they are a bunch of championship 1mill players apart from richardson who is a man u reject lookin aslo at the players u ave bought it seems that 1 of our players cost more than 3-4 of yours
Stadium size, fan credibility and previous success are going to mean little in the way of his final decision. It's going to boil down to three things. Where he can achieve, where he can play regularly and where he can increase his reputation both nationally and internationally.
My way of thinking is; For Gordon to look at Villa's squad he's going to see two Keepers, one established as First choice and another pushing to take that spot. Sorenson is unlikely to be content with being choice and with only < a year remaining on his current deal, he could consider departing Villa Park, sooner than we think. With Villa's determination and expectations already being branded about, the possibility of achievements could be the key to his signature and with achievements brings reputation. I wouldn't like to think distance from Scotland has anything to do with it, but if it does, it would leave us in a slight disadvantage, but lets hope that's not a factor. I think there's a good chance for us, despite reading that Sunderland apparently as of now have the edge. Lets just hope for best. And trust in MON. He certainly gave NRC and MH the right choice of words to grab their signature, lets hope he can work his magic with Craig.
safctony
if you want people to agree with you fu** off to a sunderland site you t**t
and safcton if you could show us the webiste where it says gordan has had a medical wit u tht would be good as it doesnt say it anywhere on the top sports website sky sports!!!!
I'm not one to have a go at villa fans, being one, but lilvillan, your arguments are pretty weak, and frankly, the Sunderland fans are making you look silly. xandeh, i agree with everything you said below, good argument. Really it is impossible to guess where he's going to go, because we cant get into his head. The people who know him seem to think he's going to the mackems. What does that say? I'd be gutted, but maybe we can go headlong into buying Jussi, who is just as good, and probably half the price.
i agree wit ste2. robbie safctony and spenny f**k off is that a gd anouth argument for you
im sick of everyone saying sunderland have championship players, villa have bought harewood, who struggled to get into the west ham first team even though they were on the brink of relegation, and you've signed reo-coker, who was "forced" out of west ham because he didnt play with passion. Sunderland to sign Gordon
part from all the sunderland fans literin our website i think grodon is a great kepper an shows it in the video LINK
gordon 4 villa (not sunderland)
sunderland fans are gettin cocky though
there is always going to be a difference of opinion when it comes to our team
but can we please try and keep it civil?
That video is impressive. I love the fact that the petty argument between us and the mackems stems to youtube as well. Seriously, we cannot tell where he's going right now, just that if he has any sense, he should come to us. Curtis Davies, Hoyte and him will be just right to finish our squad off. I genuinely think that that will be enough. We have plenty of strikers, enough cover in midfield, and with those, a solid defence. The beauty of having a tight squad will mean that we can keep everyone happy, and everyone should gel nicely. A much better policy that City.
id laugh if he went man city now
Lil Villan :- Please answer my question of yesterday. Are you six and a half ?
PS:- Heavy rumour up here Gordon has just been getting photographed at the AOL holding up THE shirt. Lets hope so eh ?
Sunderland is a team of championship players however much you dont like to admit it.
Please sunderland fans tell me when you go back down this season who in your squad is going to be good enough to stay in the premiership with another club?
Yes i know players may have a very good season etc and will get premiership suitors but in your opinion who is premiership quality as of now?
I was listening to radio five last night just before the hearts & hibs game (I don't know where the bbc got the idea he was spending a couple of days training at each club because the man has a slight shoulder injury) and it went a little lke this, hearts would prefer him to join Sunderland but the whispers are the player himself would prefer to join Aston Villa.
like i said spenney you cretiniuos moron your gonna need a good keeper cuz hes gonna be a busy boy. man of the match week in week out. by tyhe way have you just heard that sunderland have made noises about kousak. sounds to me they must be confident about signing Gordon... lol
Ayersy:- Craig Gordon 8)
I'd assume you meant the SOL unless he's signed for Hamburg, none the less I just scouted around allover with that information in mind and came up with zero, so lets just count it was another 'rumour'
Lil Villan:- LINK
Come and visit anytime, it should prove very enlightening for us all.
To the rest, it appears he has signed for us. I always thought it was 50/50 between the clubs and as such I am relieved we came out on top this time. As many of you have painstakingly pointed out, its not often the case with SAFC. Thankfully the opposition could not match our wealth, training facilities, ground, support or ambition on this occasion.(sic)
To the decent posters, best wishes, to the arrogant 'get it right up you' !!!
reports on sky gordon has passed medical at sunderland and is discussing terms, where as everywhere else says he is on his way to villa to talk to MON WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON !!!!
LINK
have been spot on with everything so far regarding Gordon as it's his mate that works for the station
cracking signing for Sunderland
unfortunatley spenny u cud be wrong Gordon meeting MON tomorrow
LINK
well well well. look who he has picked then ;D
bit of a reality check for some of you on here I think, best of luck next season with our cast-off in goal!!
to the decen posters, best of luck this season.
to the nobs, get real about the size of your club.
no doubt about it, hes going to be a very busy lad, but it shows our intent!!
haway the lads!!!
Xandeh:- AOL. Acadamy of Light. Sunderland's traing ground.
All seems well up here but we all await confirmation on Sky. Here's hoping.
Yeah, I realised a little after, my apologies!
untill i see conformation of gordon holdin a sunderland top with his name and number on the back with roykeane i ent takin of the bullcrap rumors cuz eny cud be rite an eny could be rong. wot would be embarrasing though is if sunderlands deal goes t*ts up an he signs for villa. wouldnt that be annoyin with all the comment the sunderland fans ave made
LINK
lilvillan
;D ;D ;D
does it show him holdin a shirt with his number and name with roy keane noooo it says hes agreed a deal but is going to villa to hold talks aswell in which he will porbably do the same as he has at sunderland and then sign for either club. dumbass do u realy think he can talk to both clubs at the same time
LINK
safctony
;D ;D ;D
lil Villan its over Sunderland have got him.
Ive read in a few places that Villa did not match the valuation that Hearts had placed on Gordon and so he was told not to bother coming down to VP to look around and sign with Sunderland. This certainly makes sense as he was all set earlier today to come and have a trial with us aswell.
Its a slight comfort to know that he didnt reject Villa for Sunderland on the basis of anything other than money.
As i have said before fair play to Sunderland. This will prove that you are serious about building a good squad.
ive lost full hope im even startin to doubt mon
