Aston Villa have agreed a deal with Chivas USA for Brad Guzan.
Details of the deal are still to surface but it's probably not that much and if what has been said about him are true, it's probably a good deal for Aston Villa.
Guzan is 23 years old and the rumoured price is $1.5mn., which equates to about £750,000 - which while a lot of money to us lot, isn't exactly that much to a Premier League football club.
From what I've seen, he's decent enough and with the arrival of Paul Robinson, Brad Friedel or Robert Green a possibility in the not so distant future, Martin O'Neill looks to have his three keepers sorted for next season.
The club site are running with the headline of the deal, but not so surprisingly the page with the news is coming up with an error, so if you know more than the rumoured price, comment about it below.

Guzan is a very good keeper but i hope we bring another one in dont think he good enough yet to be our no.1 choice keeper
Thats pocket change really. I hope we do get Freidel in now to act as Obi-Wan :)
Good signing that one. The deals always take a while to come (especially with Villa it feels at times) but MON's making smart moves. More of the same please!
1mill for a support keeper is nothing these days, especially if they need to be able to step up when needed. Imagine Brad gets to play in a few games and makes the add carsonesque mistake. Everyone will say, well he's only young and learning the game, but Robinson doing the same at 5mill (cos Taylors better), we'll thats just bollo**s.
Ive heard he looks and smells like bruce grobbelaar :'(
I have the feeling he could be No 1
toxytag have you even saw him play cause i no i haven't..
is he good at saving penaltys??
;D
he will be the number 1 keeper by boxing day
seriously hes got the goods
Im sure i have read somewhere its nearer $3m. Around £1.5m. Might be mistaken though. Hope he comes, but still think Taylor should be given a chance.
Yeah, i think he may be No 1, doesn't he have to play a certain amount of games to renew his work permit?
Looks good!! Watch this..... LINK
I am actually very pleased with this transfer. He is the current 1st choice US goalie, and American goalkeepers have a pretty good record in the Premiership (Friedel, Keller, Howard [albeit at Everton]). Picking up a first choice international for just over a millions pounds must be applauded as a great bit of business.
martygra: I actually think that he could well be our first choice by then too.
I gurantee you that Paul Robinson won't be at VP this season. Martin O'Neill does not want him, for sure. Apparently MON wants Ben Foster on a seasons loan and after that see if Brad Guzan is ready to be number one.
simon i don't think he wants 2 young keepers. think he will go for a more expierienced one
an i am loving the video he made some top quality saves and maybe better than brad friedel
I'm with the idea of Foster on loan and Guzan to challenge him for the number 1 jersey.
Come on MON, keep on buying!
i think the fee is £1m
i herd sumin like he got mls keeper of the season last season or something and celtic wanted him aswel.
He looks like a very good prospect. Good signing and excellent value.
yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! another signin as quick as that!
wwwwwwwwwooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UTV ;D
good luck with some more signins MON!
calllllllllllllllllllllaboooooooooooooooooongaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!(!!!)
ONE MINUTE IM ON THIS SITE, I GET A DRINK AND WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YEH
UTV ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
the deal was £2m damian.
answer back so i know youve read this message.
Have we ever had an American player before?
Don't know enough about Guzan or the US league to comment on this signing, but glad we seem to be forming a sizable squad at last. Do not want Foster on loan, loan players don't care about the club as they know returning to their real clubs at end of season and are rarely successful whilst on loan. We shouldn't be in the situation where we need to loan players anyway, we need a number 1 so lets buy one! Robinson or Green would be fine.
no damian it was £1m
There is some sense in what you are saying Keef. BUT Foster just happens to be alot better keeper than Green and Robinson
i just dont see the point in loaning a keeper just for him to go back to manchester.
then if he ends up no1 for a season guzan would probably feel unsettled..
just dont see the foster 1 happening and i hope it doesn't
i would like to see friedel or robinson
Guzan isn't USA's number one; Howard is our number one. But Guzan is quality, guys, he really is quality. Any American who follows MLS and the national team with tell you this.
To anyone who doubts Guzan's abilities because he comes from the American league, remember that Tim Howard, Brad Friedel, Kasey Keller and Marcus Hahnneman all played in an American league.
Also, remember that MON signed Kasey Keller at Leicester City back in the 90s. He knows a thing or two about American keepers.
I dont know anything about this yank but for O'neill to try and sign him last season and now go back and get him he must be decent.. Anyone heard anymore about Bentley? that one seems to have gone a bit flat
Prepare for the avalanche of signings:D
Looks good on the video, but I'd be cautious of playing him as number 1 in his first season.
Also, don't forget the scene in "Mike Bassett - England Manager" when he signed what he thought was a striker on video evidence, and he ended up with the keeper that had let all the goals in. I just hope the video isn't of our new striker :-)
Don't see the point in Freidel as he is 37! That will be like loaning a player for a year.
Maybe Guzan has been bought to be number 1, Taylor number 2 and the young lad from the youth team stepping up to number 3.
Wouldn't suprise me
The bottom line is no-one can pass judgement on him till we see him play in the epl. However all reports are encouraging and it looks a great piece of business. The same profile for an english keeper are it would probably be 10million quid. I would rather take a punt on Guzan than sign Calamity Carson or Fatty Robinson. Having said that we do need another keeper - whether its a first choice second choice or third choice doesn't really bother me.
Ron. If we were trying to sign Foster permanently then I'd agree. But we aren't. So Robinson or Green better options.
Have all the problems with the work permit been solved then? Didn't hear anything about it. Good acquisition though.
i agree with keef
Robinson no1
Guzan no2/3
Taylor no 2/3
Am i the only one that when they have seen taylor play thought....hmm....looks pretty good fo us
For godzvilla, I seen the youtube link and I think he's alot like Sorenson. I thought Sorenson was fantastic, I he's old news but he was the second highest valued keeper at the start of last season and I think that says it all. MON is great, but like all of us he makes mistakes and I think that was a very big one. Love from the villains in Ireland
he is a very good GK will do well in the premier league and a super steal at that price, altough taylor has always done well when he has played
I think martin oneill obviosly noes what he is upto on this one my personal thought is i reckon he Guzan is a good keeper he is only 23 and will cost around 2 million for him which outcasts buying scott carson who is 22 who will cost around 10 million . i dont think MON would waste his time buying a keeper from USA if he wasnt good enough ,we need to bide are time and see what he can do .
if we can get guzan and friedel in for less than £5mil then id be well happy, friedel tutoring him for a year/18 months then guzan establishing himself as no 1
like the look of him from the video. he looks like a big lad as well which always helps.
I think this says it all
LINK
He can't handle pressure. Simple as that.
Taylor stopped a penalty against Man U having only just been brought on to the pitch.
I also think he's pretty good, never seems to have been given a fair crack of the whip.
good that you agree with me ParkerVillain
put it this way.......better than Scott "career finished after the croatia game" Carson
is the villa website broke for everyone or just me?
Bloody hell Beastmix, those 200 LA Galaxy fans make more noise than at a full Villa Park! Think Villa fans should start using the same tactics at Villa Park!
sam_villa.....the website is broke for everyone not just you. It is also useless for everyone as well.
I think he could be a great signing, but just remember that with a bit of editing and some music you could make my nan look like pele on youtube.
Now that we have another gk in with Taylor, I'm really excited about this transfer window. I've seen a decent amount of MLS, and Guzan is definitely a great prospect.. regardless of singular youtube examples. I think he will flourish at the Villa.
I'm looking forward to finding out who else MON has waiting in the wings!!
it's amazing, we sign a quality young keeper and people moan. It wouldn't matter who we signed, there would still be a bunch of fucking muppets complaining on this site. Brad Guzen is a quality young keeper, anyone that has seen him play in the MLS will know that he is a good shot stopper, commands his area well and is a 1000 times better than Carson. Beastmix have you ever seen him play? Or do you just want to stir the pot by finding some retarded video that proves nothing. I could find a video of Peter Czech howlers, would that make him a shit keeper as well?
No Taglor, not even with editing and cool music your nan would look like Pele.
Mainly because:
a) she's not black - as far as I know
b) she's not a 6 footer brazilian - again, as far as I know
c) she couldn't recreate the 1970 Brazil-Italy World Cup final in her back garden
d) she cannot jump as high as Pele at the time due to her hip
e) she doesn't have erection problems
awful signing. wats happening on the bentley front?
Bhurji.....why is it an awful signing?have you seen alot of guzan then?from what ive seen of him and the price we apparently paid for him, i think its a fantastic buy.i think O'neill should put you in charge of transfers..
Beastmix and bhurju:
Have you ever seen Guzan play a full game?
I live in Los Angeles and regularly attend Chivas USA games.
Brad Guzan is the real thing. Best young American keeper, and will challenge Tim Howard for the #1 spot for 2010.
You got a bargain!
I quite like this Decision & hope he is going to be our No1. I admit I know nothing about the player but a big confident young yank in goal cannot be a bad thing. Lets hope he has a bright start he can then Grow. Martin Laursen is sure to look after the kid.
I think we can only finish mid table this season too many changes, but lets hope this can be the real start of the so called 5yr plan
Villain from Texas:
Yes I have. Many times.
Another "Big" signing MON can be judged on. That's what 5 or 6 MON players in the starting 11 in year 3 of a 5 year plan. MON messed up with Barry and used the media to look like the hero while the real Mr. Villa now can't get out fast enough. He will never be any more than an average manager of average clubs playing long ball football. Before you mention his record, Gordon Strachan!!
Beastmix:
Then with all due respect, you're a poor judge of goalkeeping. Allow me to side with MON on this one.
Actually Guzan would be the second American at Villa. Eric Lichaj is a youth and reserve team player. Hes from the Chicago area as well.
Guzan is the second American, Eric Lichaj is a defender on the junior and reserve teams

Not necessary - you sound bitter that you're not designing the club website - did you get turned down for the job??

You tell us!!! And I go back to my earlier question - where's the video on Youtube of him meeting MON. I'm afraid you've lost all credibility on this site.
I think this transfer has paid for itself already. I can see a few tops being sold in the USA this year. The risk is really minimal. We'll get our No.1 soon enough. I wonder if Taglor's nan is any good? I say, get a Villa shirt on her!
Nicky, wake up mate.
If Barry was Mr Villa would he want to move to Liverpool? So, so naive.
Mick 70 you seem to know an awful lot about geriatric problems. Maybe you attended the FA cup final for the ticket they are auctioning which is the oldest in existence?
Taglor: I don't know about my knowledge of geriatrics but sure as hell I can spot signs of dementia when I see 'em ;)
only way to tell guzan quality is when he plays. simple as.
