Has Angel signed for the New York Red Bulls?

Monday, 16 April 07, 03:21 PM · Comments (8)

Rumours floating around the web today suggest that our very own Juan Pablo Angel has signed for MLS outfit the New York Red Bulls.

None of this is confirmed either via the official Aston Villa web site or the Red Bulls web site but it is a rumour and one that is sure to develop as the day and week goes on.

I'm not sure how it would work, as in, could he go now or would he have to wait until our season is over? I'm sure he'd like to go now but I think it may also be fitting for him to get a send off, of sorts, at Villa Park.

I've always liked Angel and will be sad to see him go but things are changing at Villa Park and Marin O'Neill seems to know who, or should that be what, type of player he is after.

Unfortunately Juan Pablo doesn't seem to fit into that criteria. If he goes, good luck, if he doesn't this is just another stupid rumour.

I like Jaun Pablo but you are right, new times at Villa Park, he has never shown consistency, so good luck to him, nice guy!

Juan was a good lad but times change and we can't afford his now atrocios first touch. Good luck in MLS

I live here in New Jersey (where the red bulls are based). They had an opening party at my local boozer (mulligans - hoboken - villa shirt above the bar!!!). They said that he was asking for alot of money and they felt that with Beckham coming over, they did not have to bend over backwards for anybody anymore.

Will be sad to see him go, he's been a bit on and off but the best thing O'leary did was get that 20 goal season out of him. He was a big signing at the time who's given us his best. Thanks Juan and good luck in the U.S. screw them for every penny you can get, Please let him play against Bolton(he'll probably get a hat trick!!!).

My understanding of the MSL is that April 16th was the deadline to bring in players from outside the league (you can still deal with other MLS teams). The transfer window opens again sometime in June. So, if Angel didn't sign by today, he can't until late June. Without an announcement having been made, I would assume that nothing's happened.

Word is that RBNY will announce the signing tomorrow. This is HUGE for us.

Agreed. I did like Angel but he does not fit future plans for Villa. A proper send off would be nice.

Seems that it's likely to be announced in the next 12 hours. If it does happen then good luck to JPA. I've always liked him even if he hasn't been a 'consistent' goal scorer.
